Are you trolling? What the fuck?
Looking at like 3/4 of his posts in the entire thread, I have the same feeling:
I just went back and read the Oriko Hunt saga. Looking back, we didn't make the best choice with explaining to Homu why we wanted Oriko alive.

Dammit, S(abrina)ufficientVelocity, you suck at diplomacy.

Sabrina's last name should be Velocity, if we ever have a chance to legalize one.
For some reason I have the feeling that this entire section of the story arc has been one massive fuckup on our parts.
Ok, gonna be honest. My reaction?

Oh, Fick Mich.
Well, the string of fuckups continues. Methinks we should just axe Hijiri, damn the consequences. We've burned any bridge we could've crossed to reach her.
*building explodes*

"Balls."
TFW you were living on apartment that was only kept standing literally by wish and prayers.

I generally just try to call it like I see it, but admittedly I have a tendency to miss details.

Apologies.

Witches are a power source?!
Not fuel?
...
Fuck.
That's somehow even worse.
I'm pretty sure the incubators need to destroy the grief seeds to actually get to the grief they use to create energy. Mostly because Juubey, the incubator puppet the Pleiades created, was completely unable to actually remove grief from a soul gem.

So even if they could theoretically be used as a continual power source, the incubators don't currently seem to possess the necessary knowledge to actually use them as anything more than fuel.

Juubey was a drone corpse with two Grief Seeds stuffed in it. The Incubators as a whole are definitely capable of things that it isn't.
It just seems silly to automatically assume the absolute worst case, when there is no evidence for it.
I mean Juubey being unable to do it isn't proof, but it's more than we have for them using them as an endless source of despair.

The Incubators technically aren't evil, and instead pursue efficiency ruthlessly. To that end, it wouldn't be efficient getting everyone to Witchout if there's no one strong enough to actually defeat a Witch. So while stronger Puella produce more energy when they Witchout, barring rare cases like Madoka they're pretty content just letting them do their thing. Since after all, any Magical Girl who doesn't eventually Witch is clearly one who is efficient at killing & hunting Witches.

I think don't it is simply "Kyubey wants more Witches soon" since they're fighting universe decay, inpatience isn't their vice. So while it is correct Incubators try to provoke Witchouts anyways, siccing two novice Meguca who are just as likely to kill as they are to emotionally destroy their targets... Not really efficient, if the goal is merely "More Witches".

There's also the fact the Pleiades were already planning their whole "rejection" (which involved blocking out a whole city from contracts and seed retrieval) when Anri and Hijiri became Meguca in the manga, which isn't the case here. So unless the Pleiades have something they're definitely working on, it seems more likely Hijiri made her Wish due to similar events as the manga: Seeing a Magical Girl & Witch fight.

Why would they put that feature in their bodies That's what they have machinery for.

Wishes and prayers are pretty solid building material in this setting.
Topically, the opposite is also true. Flying Grief house when?

Kyuuubey states that Juubey couldn't cleanse soul gems because cleansing soulgems isn't under the purview of an Incubator's abilities-- it was an experiment that appeared to work, but that the Pleiades were unable to falsify. It's actually probable that Juubey actually could to an extent, using the Grief Seeds the Pleiades gave him (which would be why they lasted as long as they did, given their heavy magic use and slow-burning Grief Spiral), but the cleansing ex nihilo was merely an illusion. Other than that, it seems to share all of Kyuubey's innate properties except for the power to grant Wishes (which was deliberate).

There's also the fact the Pleiades were already planning their whole "rejection" (which involved blocking out a whole city from contracts and seed retrieval) when Anri and Hijiri became Meguca in the manga, which isn't the case here. Kyuubey is an opportunist who benefits directly from making contracts and from girls taking SAN damage. He is a professional emotional predator who views his marks as particularly intelligent cattle and is unable to feel guilt or remorse for his actions. He's polite, cordial, and occasionally even extremely helpful, but at the end of the day his only true motive is to forestall Heat Death, and the most efficient way to do that is with the souls of teenage girls.

Hijiri seeing the fight (and her double) raises a lot of questions, which Kyuubey is obligated to answer in the most unhelpful way possible-- not only due to his policy of "Honesty" towards Potentials who pierce the Masquerade, but because he knows that no matter what Hijiri wishes for, it's going to absolutely devastate Niko, which further undermines the large regional power bloc. If Niko and Michiru witch out, he's pretty quickly got 7 witchouts on his hands as the Pleiades implode on themselves and an area ripe for a turf war which opens more opportunities for both witchouts and new contracts.

Bonus: By manipulating her while she's furious, terrified, and otherwise vulnerable, Kyuubey can turn her into a more direct weapon against the Pleiades, giving him cause to introduce her to Airi, a (at least marginally) senior Puella Magi whose entire raison d'etre is FUCK THE PLEIADES.

One body and an entire civilization are so far apart from each other that the former being unable to do a thing is completely irrelevant regarding whether or not the latter can do that thing.

Well, if she was grief spiraling that certainly explains much of Anri's panic reaction last update.

@Firnagzen, Out of curiosity, I have a couple questions. About how full was Anri's Gem? And, now that we can see it, what's the name of the clear seed?

It occurs to me that I don't fully understand Sabrina's character, for two reasons.
1) We haven't actually killed any yet, so I'm belatedly realizing my earlier suggestion would not technically ever be considered. Even though it would be a kindness at this point.
2) SV is a crazy place full of complicated people who are actively contributing to Sabrina's character development throughout the course of the quest.

Of course, SV seems to have a tendency to fuck up in social interaction and diplomancing in this quest, messing up reading cues and such in other characters' actions. It's now, reflecting as I explain and point this out, that I am also belatedly realizing it comes across as trolling. It has been pointed out to me, even.

As such, I will no longer be posting on this thread, only reading.

think someone with a emiya complex and is also not a fucking moron with it
also sucks and getting what she means across to other people, thats what i get from sabrina realy.

OK, so, besides telling Sayaka how awesome she's doing and asking her to ease up on the powers - the headache, I'd like to answer Kazumi's question by not blatantly lichbombing her from the start, but rather hinting at who is the little shit who finds girls at their worst moment and offers them to make their troubled thoughts a reality.

And gives them magic powers, making a normal peaceful resolution of their problems rather very difficult.

Kazumi looks like she knows what's up, so she might name KB herself. Just need to be careful to make it not sound like Mami knew the shit KB was up to.

Meanwhile, Mami's support and reaction on the 'KB is a shit' thing should count for a lot.

Crafting.

[] Kazumi, Niko:
-[] Serious tone; mind Mami and Niko.
-[] Hint towards KB's modus operandi (wishes, half truths, lies of omission, etc.), and how they relate to Hijiri's situation.
--[] Try to get Kazumi to connect the dots and name KB rather than you. Be direct if necessary.
-[] Segue into Lichbomb.
--[] Explain how you could have stopped Hijiri, and why you didn't (talks about freedom of choice; Hijiri's 'puppet' issue).

[] Kures:
-[] Check up.
-[] Ask Kirika if she could fashion some anti magic cuffs/bracelets for handling prisoners. Like Anri.
-[] Ask Oriko if she could talk with Anri once she wakes up.
--[] Offer to share all necessary details.

[] Acknowledge Sayaka's efforts and good work; ask her to ease up if her headache doesn't let up, and to cleanse.

As far as Sayaka goes, I think there should be something like:

[] Note to Sayaka that magic induced headaches usually seem to be a sign of overreaching. Though she could also cleanse and see if that helps.

Honestly, given how obviously carefully she's playing it, I kinda wonder if this would be a good opportunity raise it Kazumi that she can safely talk to us about anything.

Something in the vein of "Hey, I see that very carefully controlled look you're giving. If there's anything you want to talk about it should be safe to say it to me."

When we met Kazumi she was hiding her gem status from the rest to not worry them. If she does know something like the lichbomb, she likely won't appreciate us blurting unless she thinks it's necessary to tell. At the very least I expect her to signal stop in some way if we start on a topic she doesn't want her team to know. In ideal circumstances I'd want to take her aside and ask her what she knows.

e: which also means that if she does know something but doesn't want it out, she'll support our less aggressive evidence so that she doesn't have to reveal. Mind you, not a fan of relying on assumptions, so again, best to ask her?

-[] Be serious; mind Mami and Niko's state of mind.
-[] You suspect the Incubator, Kyuubey. Gauge reactions - how informed is Kazumi? Niko?
--[] Explain QB's true uncaring nature and modus operandi. Make sure Kazumi knows Mami didn't know.
-[] Do not lichbomb Niko against Kazumi's wishes.

[] Check on the Kures:
-[] Ask Kirika if she could try fashioning some antimagic cuffs/bracelets for handling prisoners. Like Anri.
--[:V] Or Oriko, we don't judge.
-[] Ask Oriko if she'd like to try talking with Anri once she wakes up. She'd likely have better luck than you...
--[] If she accepts, perhaps meet up under privacy device to discuss approach?

I think we should start out slow and gauge reactions, since pulling Kazumi aside sends a message all it's own. Agreed that if Kazumi is aware, suddenly lichbombing Niko if she's unaware would make her slightly completely livid with us.

Because it's sort of part and parcel of explaining that Kyubey is a motherfucking bastard and why Mami can vouch for it.

I think one of the other things that came up in discussion, that Kyuubey gets energy from contracts, and is willing to say and do a lot in order to get particularly valuable ones, is more worthwhile here. The lichbomb may be useful as an example of the lengths to which he goes, but the energy from contracting potentials gets to why he does it without necessarily needing to invoke that.

Actually, I support this wholeheartedly.

"Your wish has decreased enthropy".

Remember that line? It's what he tells those he contracts. Assert to Pleiades that Kyuubey is motivated by this line, and he is the only one who could have made Hijiri a magical girl anyway. He is clearly a party to this event in some way.

In-character, we can probably claim that even if he isn't one who turned Hijiri against Niko, he probably knows the culprit - and asking him if he's the one who told Hijiri about Niko's wish is a decent source of verification.

I mean, I don't think Kyuubey would tell a direct lie when asked. He's more likely to confirm that it was he, than not. After all, he does answer direct questions truthfully... usually. When he doesn't tell you that you don't need to know.
