Hijiri has already demonstrated sufficient ranks in concentration to cast while grappled - recall her response to Mami's tangle-bullet. And that was while she was panicked and running, no less; here she's ready for an engagement and likely has a decent idea of what our first strike is going to look like.
My idea is to stop her with extreme prejudice. She is attacking; we have a very small window to say something that'd cause her to stop, but until we fing what to say that'd have such an effect, then not stopping Hijiri means we get blasted. 'GG'.

We can't double down on what we're already doing and expect her to stop this time.

Only idea I've had for convincing her to stop in few words is to reveal our Wishborn status, hoping for momentary shock and some amount of pulling Hijiri's world from under her feet. But it's... egh.

Asking what her wish was... would b ea non-sequitur? I doubt Hijiri would stop for that.

Mami's warning us. We have this 'breathless moment', 'calm before the storm'. I'll go for the 'talk' option if we can actually figure out what we could say that would actually stop Hijiri in her tracks.

[] Shout "Incoming fire! Deflectors are failing! Deploy the life pods! All hands brace for impact!"
- [] Encase Hijiri in a capsule of opaque grief.
- [] Dramatically shake the MOF like a Star Trek spaceship taking damage.
- [] Eject Hijiri's capsule from the MOF and park it on a roof somewhere safe. Have some of the Pleiades go keep an eye on her.
- [] Go deal with Airi.

There. That perfectly solves the problem of needing to social Hijiri quickly, without us getting lasered.

I'll go for the 'talk' option if we can actually figure out what we could say that would actually stop Hijiri in her tracks.

[Q] "In your situation, Niko would almost certainly attack."
-[Q] "Strike me down with all your hatred, and with this your journey to the Dark Side will be complete!"

Could you elaborate?
There's problems with going "I'm wishborn too".

Perhaps the less important one is that some of us have expressed a desire to tell Mami first about this, before anyone else.

Ignoring that, while sharing this might shock Hijiri for a moment, she won't necessarily cooperate afterwards.

She could take it as truth, if we somehow managed to get her to trust us that much, and maybe acquiesce when we ask she stands down.

Or she might think we're lying just to manipulate her and get angry, and attack. (And if Mami is shocked at the revelation, this would be specially bad, as we're attempting Social and Mami's distracted while Hijiri attacks.)

Or she might feel betrayed that despite being an artificial human like her, we're siding with the Pleiades. Or betrayed we didn't reveal this until this very last, very tense moment. Almost like emotional blackmail.

The thing is that sharing our wishborn status will most likely stop Hijiri's building attack in its tracks, but not necessarily help overall.

Maybe with a good follow up?

- [] Encase Hijiri in a capsule of opaque grief.
--[] And move her out of the MoF at silly speeds at the same time. She's literally surrounded by Grief already. (Problem: Can't quite social Hijiri while she's encapsuled.)

I'd leave the how to stop Hijiri to Brinapilot, since that's kind of what it's for, I think, but the amount of control Brina has over Hijiri right now is silly, as far as physical restraints go.

Encasing her in grief is not going to prevent her from attacking, and she has enough variety of powers that we can't easily restrain her. You're going to have to gem her if you want to keep her from attacking by force.
I have confidence that Sabrina can stop Hijiri from casting in this situation. Whether Hijiri will be available for Social right afterwards is another matter.

Stopping Hijiri is as easy as having a chunk of Grief slam on her head very hard.

Or shooting her out of the MoF at 200 km/h - and stopping her a second afterwards. Jarring.

Hitting her on the ears would probably put her out of commission for a few seconds, and it takes a thought to so, as well.

Hell, we could make her spin really fast. *Shrugs*

Or we could simply dodge. We have ourselves surrounded in Grief, too.

And as long as we stop Hijiri for a second, then there's Mami too.

My first instinct, and what I would love to do and succeed at doing here, would be to actually convince Hijiri with words. It would be ideal. But both 'talk' and 'act' options can end badly, and I don't yet see the way to talk Hijiri otu of this, in the timeframe we've got.

See, that's why we go with the Star Trek gambit.

She'll be disoriented and think the grief capsule is for her own protection. That way she doesn't immediately laser her way out.

I don't like using this phrasing because I feel we should be the ones deciding this, but the situation is confusing enough...

[X] Hijiri:
-[X] If hostile, abuse Grief to stop Hijiri and keep yourself and Mami safe.
--[X] Restrain Hijiri. If she's conscious, tell her you'll still try to help her.
-[X] Else: There's no time. Ask her to give you one chance, and you'll see she gets a chance at having a life of her own. A happy life, without this pain and despair. And without Niko, if she wants.
--[X] Mind the time limit.
-[X] Either way, ask the Pleiades to pick up Hijiri.

[X] Airi: Ask Oriko if she could talk Anri down.
-[X] If so, confront Anri alone until O&K arrive: Talk about what Anri wants; what Yuuri would have wanted.
--[X] Mami on ranged support just in case, out of hearing range.
--[X] Grief undercoat armor.
-[X] If not, Gem Anri.

Alternative wording...?
[X] Hijiri:
-[X] If hostile, abuse Grief to stop Hijiri and keep yourself and Mami safe.
--[X] Restrain Hijiri. If she's conscious, tell her you'll still try to help her.
-[X] Else: Ask Hijiri to stop lashing out and give us just one chance.
--[X] Mind the time limit.
-[X] Either way, ask the Pleiades to pick up Hijiri.

Hijiri hasn't responded, so you decide to continue. Kazumi can handle that. "I mean... look, I'm just guessing here," you say slowly as you finally set down. "But I'm pretty sure you don't want to play along with Niko. Your family is your family, but staying with them feels like it's exactly what she wants, right?"
Dammit Brina. Why are you putting your thoughts in Ms. puppet complex's head?

"We're trying something new," you note, watching her warily. You have your doubts that Anri can actually manage to sneak up on you, but a surprise attack from Hijiri and Anri at the same time?

Dear god, we couldn't carry out graceful skullduggery with a basket.

-----------

She hasn't outright refused an offer from us without other pretext, no chance for it, but this is the second time Hijiri has been suspicious of us just after an offer of cleansing.

I have to wonder if she's aware of the rumors of grief controllers. Like, just picture a hypothetical conversation with her asking Kyuubey about us:

Hijiri: Who was that girl with who met this Niko and the Saints this morning?
Kyuubey: That was Sabrina, a grief controller.
Hijiri: And what is she like?
Kyuubey: Grief controllers are notorious for lying. Rumors of them tends to attract droves of girls, often to a violent end.
Hijiri: Is she like that?
Kyuubey: Tomoe Mami has become increasingly dependent on Sabrina since she started cleansing her. One of Mami's old friends hypothesizes that Sabrina's powers may have addictive properties.

And all that put together paints a pretty nasty picture of our cleansing.

If she's that far in Kyubey's pocket, we have zero chance of ever being able to help her and we might as well give up now. No thanks.

[jk] *Diabolical laughter*
-[jk] Hug the mumi and clasp her hands
--[jk] "yes, i got that bish, what can possibly go wrong now that i have her in my sights!? "

Right, I have no energy for votecrafting. So I'm going to make a few points.

Combat strategy: We have a mountain of grief and several seeds. I believe we still have the memory device too. Shutting down telepathy without brutality should be quite possible, especially with backup from and everyone warned to keep away. The rest is stopping shouting. Which, y'know, can be done with a gag.

One thing that can be done with Hijiri is dodging: Make a hairline split in the MOF into multiple sections, violently separate them if she tries anything.

Kirika's antimagic would be really handy for prisoner restraint.

Gemming will not go favorably towards making peace afterwards. I can very easily see Hijiri comparing it to us cutting strings on a puppet. Which... yeah. Not conductive to a calm and collected Kanna. Thinking of other methods is important.

Our friends are forewarned, we have a nigh infinitely malleable substance, our multitasking is ludicrous, and we have plenty of ammo. "Hard meguca making hard decisions" is not necessary and not, I think, truly helpful either.

[x] Simultaneously: Anri
-[x] Get a telescope on her so you can let Mami start rebooting.
-[x] Give talking one last try.
--[x] This isn't what Yuuri would have wanted. Please, there's another way. Does she want an apology? Does she want to know the truth?
-[x] Be ready to instantly incap her. Maybe-lichbombed is better than surely-witchbombed.

Veb? The bold bit here is ill considered. This is the same topic that caused Anri to go nuts on us poked at in, if anything, a worse manner. Bring it up like this and she'll only grow further infuriated than she already is.

The only reason to bring up Yuuri to her is in the context of dewitching, and frankly even that I'd first hand her the seed and talk to her and Hijiri about alternatives including the two of them dewitching Yuuri. With all the implied information logistic of checking whether or not Hijiri is witchbombed required for that. Unless you want to ask Hijiri or Anri about whether Anri told Hijiri her about her contracting (and with it, Yuuri witching out), I'd either avoid the topic or play it with extreme care. Not a time to offer options that force her to deal with us in particular, looks far too much like a hostage situation.

(Probably would happen like so if it did:
[] To Anri or Hijiri privately: One question, just one question to solve everything: How much does Hijiri know how Anri contracted?

Then move to talking about dewitching.

That or talk about dewitching immediately, without the benefit of saying Anri and Hijiri have the option of working on it without us.

But either way I think that's the only thing I can think of with a chance to calm Anri down.)

Besides that, I'll note that cleansing would also need to be handed very carefully. If we just do something without warning, and Sabrina has a habit of doing things without warning where Hijiri is concerned, there are very good odds she'll take it as an attack.

I believe we still have the memory device too.
Memory device cannot be reconfigured and only cuts off Hijiri.
The rest is stopping shouting. Which, y'know, can be done with a gag.
If Anri is anything like canon, she has high-powered illusion magic. If she's conscious and has magic, she can shout all she wants.
We have a mountain of grief and several seeds.
Requires griefhax, and it's way too late for that. We should have kept the privacy bubble around instead of fucking dismissing it like we always do, I no longer give two shits about flying around feeling witchy because we already do that and not having privacy spheres on hand is getting really fucking obnoxious. Best we can get is to have Sayaka fly in after we physically disable Anri (so she can't just walk out of it) and slap an isolation sphere around her.

Does anyone else have any ideas, then? I'm starting to lean toward shooting Anri in the head solely so we can return to this discussion when it's not finals week leading into christmas vacation and we have more than three people posting.

So, I've got a new, brilliant plan for how to resolve the Hijiri and Anri situation.

Hijiri is crazy because she's Niko's replacement goldfish.
Anri is crazy because she really liked the original version, who witched out and died.

So, after we capture Anri, we gem-yank both of them.

Then, and here's the brilliant part, we synch up their soul gems with the other person's body.
Hijiri wakes up no longer being a duplicate of Niko.
Anri wakes up with someone who looks just like her missing friend to start mooning over hopelessly.
They both live happily ever after.

It's true we shouldn't bring up Yuuri just like that. Don't know what to say to Anri, though.

... OK, I don't know what else to do.

[X] Hijiri:
-[X] Goals:
--[X] Keep Mami and yourself safe.
--[X] Stop Hijiri from lashing out.
--[X] Have someone else come pick up Hijiri.
-[X] Potential actions:
--[X] Be earnest. Ask Hijiri to give you one chance.

---[X] Her own, life, hobbies, friends. No creepy spying.
--[X] If hostile: Dodge. Abuse Grief Control. Gem.

[X] In between:
-[X] Call for someone to pick up Hijiri.
-[X] Mami'll guard Hijiri until then, while you go confront Anri alone. Call the Kures for backup.
--[X] Make defenses: Grief underlayer armor; hide and protect your Gem.
-[X] Once free, Mami on sniper support.

[X] Anri:
-[X] Goal: Talk her down.
--[X] Ask Oriko for Social support.
-[X] Potential points:
--[X] Introduce yourself properly.
--[X] Apologize for earlier.
--[X] Re-state your case.
--[X] Ask about her goals.
--[X] Inquire about her Wish. Possibly mention side effects.
--[X] Defend the Pleiades.
--[X] Lay the blame at Kyuubey's feet.
-[X] If hostile, Gem Anri with extreme prejudice.

I'd like to remind everyone that we're capable of moving at supersonic speeds. We can literally just fucking rock Hijiri before she has a chance to react.

In point of fact, we should be able to do a flyby and rock both of them within the span of ten seconds, tops, so that we can deal with SOCIAL-ing them under a controlled environment.

Don't show anger or frustration at Hijiri. Show patience and understanding. Don't give up on social and assume fightings a bygone conclusion.

Yes... "griefhax" because of course being able to fly at the speed of sound and having several apartments block worth of solid mass to throw around means absolutely nothing.

You want the exasperated option? Head to Oriko and Kirika at top speed and ask them to contain Hijiri, fly back to Anri's last known location, fight/talk one on one while O&K close in.

Or hell, take O&K with us.

Made edits.

Maybe veB's right that do need to split this vote. Most people are only giving opinions on Hijiri, anyway.

Don't show anger or frustration at Hijiri. Show patience and understanding. Don't give up on social and assume fightings a bygone conclusion.

GOD BLESS YOU MURA.

[X] If at any point you are attacked by Hijiri, respond with nonlethal, restraining force, and then let her down as fast as possible. Don't let her leave, though.
[X] Turn to Hijiri. You don't particularly care that she's been working with Anri this entire time. You've forgiven much worse from Oriko on the premise of better futures already, and her circumstances were much less extenuating. Your contract with Kyubey was made for two purposes: primarily, to improve the lives of Meguca everywhere, secondarily, for the betterment of humanity. Until and unless Hijiri demonstrates that she is a monster instead of a Meguca, she is your responsibility.
-[X] But, would she answer a question for you?
--[X] Is Anri Airi a monster? Or a Magical Girl?
---[X] If the former: body-kill Anri immediately with a laser. Leave the gem for pickup.
---[X] If the latter: yank Anri's soul gem. You'll get Kirika to strap an anti-magic rock to her chest and then talk with her.

Right, I'm tired, exasperated, my mind is likely shot, but I'm gonna write the thing. It's quick, it's dirty, it has problems I can't even see in my current state as well as problems I can but am too tired to fix, but here it is, thrown out to see if it's a line of action people are interested in or at least willing to talk about.

[X] Disconnect ribbon network.
[X] Inform everyone of Anri's last known location.
[X] Ask Oriko and Kirika if they can contain Hijiri. If so, move to drop Hijiri off at high velocity. Bring them with you if they're willing.
- [X] Tell Hijiri exactly what you're doing. Then do it. Be polite. Be calm. Be patient. School your expression.
[X] Ride out to meet Anri. Go alone. Once again, push your speed.
-[X] Show of force. Blot out the sky.
[X] Face down or fight Anri until Oriko and Kirika can use Antimagic to actually contain her.

Also, important citation:
If Anri is anything like canon, she has high-powered illusion magic. If she's conscious and has magic, she can shout all she wants.
According to Oriko, Anri is notably unlike canon. Oriko's own best guess is not illusion, but biological manipulation. Which fits well with being a replacement for a healer.
These are Oriko's notes on Anri's powers, as we know them:
"What are her powers?" Homura asks.

You fidget with your hair, tucking that perpetually messy lock behind your ear. "I'm not entirely certain," you admit. "From what I know, she can summon a giant bull, some magic guns, a magic barrier thing, and an explosion which might have been a mine of some kind? And perfectly imitating the appearance of another person."

"That does not tally with what I saw," Oriko says, frowning. "The imitation, yes. The bull... yes. She did not so much summon it as grow them? She did not use the barrier, or the explosion. She did use guns, yes, though I hazard that those are her weapons."

"Right," you say, scowling. "She grew the bull, you said?"

"Like some kind of... biological matter manipulation, perhaps," Oriko says, shrugging with one shoulder. "I am uncertain."

"Would kind of tally, I suppose," you agree. "Yuuri -the original one- had -has?- healing powers. So if Anri Wishes to be like her..."

Oriko shakes her head, looking uncertain.

"When does this happen?" Homura asks, grimacing. "Can we prevent it?"

"Unfortunately... I don't really know exactly when she makes that Wish," you admit. "It may already have happened."
