[] Yeah, your friend either got eaten, murdered, or suffered literally soul crushing despair.
Oh boy, if we do full reveal, that'll be fun.
Do we keep this some what vague? Or grimmer?
Or do we just introduce ourselves and the Asunaro girls and go from there?
Maybe just explain there's going to be an influx and ask for help housing?

So, OK... I'm afraid we do need to reveal Tsuchiya Ritsuko's likely fate (of death, nothing about witching), seeing as it concerns the point of helping Hitomi not lose her meguca friends in the future.

Maybe we can put that off for now, and focus vaguely on how dangerous the meguca life is, when we go into our reasons to want to talk with her an the other parents about this.

Huh. Well now we have an adult. That's cool. I mean we haven't really seemed to need one but hey, it might be nice to talk to her so we can beg ask for help about how to deal with various emotional issues.

[X] Offer your condolences. Tsuchiya Ritsuko is almost certainly dead, or she would be famous by now for living so long.
-[X] As far as we know, Hitomi is not a potential. The only reason we've involved her at all has been to prevent exactly what was just described.
[X] Mami has homework, ask if Mrs. Shizuki is opposed to the content of the conversation so far being "public" so Mami has a response to "what was that about?" You'd like to give Mrs. Shizuki the broad strokes of the current situation, go over w. Mami what you're expecting to talk about -- none of it is anything she's unaware of.
[X] Explain briefly: the masquerade, soul gems (lichbomb + need for grief seeds), Walpurgisnacht, your powers, the expected influx of meguca.
-[X] Disaster insurance might not be a bad idea.

Well, Hitomommy is a parent, at least she knows how to troll with the best of them.

(Hitomommy plays pokemon and her favorite pokemon is hitmonchan, Hitomommys Hitmonchan is named Hit-Tommy.)

Oh, look, one of the many plausible scenarios NOT involving her losing a meguca friend happened. How about that.

Likely, but not guaranteed. We could ask Nadia via telepathy if she's heard anything about someone named Tsuchiya Ritsuko, with water powers--she'd be noteworthy for being quite old for a meguca. Or we could ask Kyubey (via telepathy). He'd certainly know if she's still alive.

And wow, look at these votes.

[Q] Time for some carpet bombing!

Uh, first, moratorium is active.

Second... Wut? o_O That's what you want to open with?

Likely, but not guaranteed. We could ask Nadia via telepathy
I was thinking just about that.

Votecrafting... This is a mess.

[ ] Thank Mrs. Shizuki for sharing this with you. You actually wanted to talk with her, and other adults about this.
-[ ] Urgently telepathy Nadia asking if she knows about Tsuchiya Ritsuko.

[ ] Reassure Mrs. Shizuki that Hitomi is not a Potential and won't become a Magical Girl, nor will she need to fight Witches nor will she lose any friends to Witches, if we can help it.
-[ ] On that note, explain the fact of Magical Girl's lives, and how you're trying to change them for the better.
-[ ] And how you need help to do it. Possibly mention Hitomi's 'friends' who are to arrive tomorrow.

[ ] Once you get an answer from Nadia, warn Mrs. Shizuki if appropriate, and share the facts about how long Magical Girls usually live, and Tsuchiya Ritsuko's fate, if Nadia does know of her.
-[ ] If Mrs. Shizuki isn't doing well, offer to continue the conversation later.

Almost trying to begin things by asking if she lost someone she cared about, and now considering immediately saying that her former friend is almost certainly dead by now. You guys sure like to just dive into things.:V

Probably should start off with telling her about Hitomi's apparent lack of potential.

Also, I doubt she's completely ignorant about meguca stuff. She did say she was friends with this MG for a year. The only things she might actually be unaware of are the Lich and Witch things, though I wouldn't make assumptions.

Okay

Did she have a reason for bringing this up beyond confirming her suspicions?

Because we cab tell her almost anythING she wants to know if that's what she's after

In fact telling her almost every thing is kinda part of the plan

[Q] Given that Tsuchiya's power was to conjure water, I'm afraid to inform you she is likely catatonic following her being assaulted by an overpowered white haired foreigner.

It took me hours reading through that mess, and I missed the vote as a result. So please excuse me for throwing my two cents in late.

Becoming a Puella Magi is not equivalent to joining a cult, it is joining a cult - for as long as you are under the misconception that Kyuubey is friendly. Breaking away from Kyuubey is leaving th cult, but you still have ties to it that are not so easy to get rid of.

Such as friends that may still respect Kyuubey, and dependacy on grief seeds, and using Kyuubeys services to dispose of full grief seeds or even to communicate with friends. And not the least of all, being permanently changed into a transhuman with identifiable accessories.

A responsible parent should be concerned if their daughter is hanging out with Magical Girls. They should be alarmed if the Magical Girls won't admit to it when directly asked, because that is an indicator that they still respect Kyuubey and as such are still in the cult!

If you asked someone that's hanging around a family member or close friend if they are a cultist and they respond with "depends on the meaning of cultist", you should not be impressed by their ability to keep secrets.

I see... well, if nothing else, we can explain that Hitomi doesn't get in on our shenanigans, and is in little danger of doing so. She might be curious, though, to learn more. Which would be... sensitive since we can almost certainly assume her old friend is dead and has been for quite some time.

I strongly recommend we keep things friendly and casual, and not talk about danger or death unless she brings it up.

Maybe, MAYBE bring up that bad stuff's gonna happen in the future, but that's a conversation for a different time and setting.

Quite possibly for the same reason Hitomi's hasn't been wiped- her friend from all that time ago asked Kyubey not to mind-wipe her, and Kyubey never really saw fit to go back and do it after she died.
Lazy Coobs confirmed. Will demote to caretaker of a even worse planet of primitives.

Anyways, Hitommy's friend could still be alive. If we can contact Nadia, she might have some info for us. That, or just ask Kyubey.

Fair point. If on the off chance she is alive, she'll certainly be someone to remember. This isn't a job someone gets old doing unless they're a dark souls-boss level of badass.

-[ ] Urgently telepathy Nadia asking if she knows about Tsuchiya Ritsuko. Once she answers, be ready to inform Mrs. Shizuki in an appropriate manner.

[ ] Reassure Mrs. Shizuki that Hitomi is not a Potential, and took the magic reveal rather well.

[ ] Fill in Mrs. Shizuki about the sad fact of Magical Girls' lives she doesn't know: Emphasize the systematic isolation of Magical Girls from the support networks, and the need to fight Witches and each other to survive.
-[ ] Explain your unique Wish and your future goals of improving Magical Girls's lives.
-[ ] Explain you wanted to talk with her and the rest of your friends' parents about this, once you ran the idea past your friends:
--[ ] First, because they need the support.
--[ ] Second, because you need help with things only adults can do, like making living arrangements for two girls suddenly arriving out of town.

Yes, the Shiogama girls.

Eh, if she is dead, I wouldn't inform her unless she specifically asks. No point in giving bad news about someone she only knew for a short time decades ago.

I figure she'll realize what happened once we explain what Magical Girl's lives are like. I guess we could not say it until she asks... but that sounds like holding back information Haruka would like to have?

Granted, she could be really, really underselling that point in her life since we're still kids from her perspective. Lot's of things could have happened in that 1 year, things that could really stick with a person. Gotta find out more before deciding.

So personally, I still feel that @kinigget and @Onmur have plans that are the closest to what Hitommy needs to hear (and we need to say), so I'm going to take a stab at fusing them together and then massaging them for the clarifying update:

[] Sober up. This is serious, yet good.
-[] Step 1: Invite
--[] Confirm her suspicions; be clear and forthright.
--[] Offer to explain as best as you can.
--[] Warn that some topics are sensitive and involve either personal information you would need permission to reveal, or information that could put people very directly in danger.
-[] Step 2: Inform
--[] Make clear that besides the obvious dangers (fighting witches), being a magical girl has several hidden dangers, and that we are trying to dissuade Contracts.
--[] Segue from there to Hitomi not being a potential, and begin explaining the first hidden danger, that "Grief" is a literal term.
---[] Use this as a chance to explain how Hitomi, Madoka, and other non-meguca supports (such as adults) can help.
---[] Subtly apologize to Mami, and explain that you've been planning to tell adults about magic for many reasons, this foremost.
--[] Connect the resource-management of Grief to Witches, and introduce the second hidden danger: Scarcity.
---[] Explain how our power in particular changes that landscape drastically; quantify Clear Seeds.
--[] From there, lead into our power (and those of the team), and how they are very well-set against the apparent danger and the (so far explained) hidden danger.
---[] Explain that an outlier (Walpurgisnacht) on the "obvious danger" side is approaching.
---[] Describe our efforts so far to mitigate, avert, and overcome this.
---[] Explain how she (and other adults) could help.
-[] Step 3: Inspire
--[] Discuss what we want to accomplish once the immediate problems are resolved.
--[] Request not just assistance, but insight and advice.
--[] Make sure to stay away from the Lichbomb, Witchbomb, etc.
---[] ...but try and set up an opportunity to talk with her in a context where we can discuss them. It's important for the extreme failure modes to be known to more than one person.
---[] Such a meeting would be a good time to discuss Tsuchiya Ritsuko, allowing us time to draw on multiple sources in a careful manner (dealing with Kyuubey when seeking information should always be done carefully, but it's the best potential source here).
---[] This would also be a good time to go into detail on the hidden danger that is Kyuubey itself.

I added the Lichbomb to the "avoid" list because I strongly suspect that "mechanics of Grief" + "Lichbomb" would invite The Obvious Question, and there's no good way to defuse that.

Fuck I still don't know how much she knows, fuck fuck aaaaaahhhhh --

So, how much did Tsuchiya tell her? How much did Hitomom suss out?
  • I'm tentatively guessing that Tsuchiya was fairly stronk, if she was hunting alone for upwards of a year. But probably not Mami-uber-tier.
  • If she was hunting solo, Hitomom might not know too much about meguca interpersonal dynamics/politics. Or she might know entirely too well.
  • What did Tsuchiya know? The witchbomb, the lichbomb? And what would she have told Hitomom?
Pthbt, I think there are too many variables.
