Fuck I still don't know how much she knows, fuck fuck aaaaaahhhhh --

So, how much did Tsuchiya tell her? How much did Hitomom suss out?
  • I'm tentatively guessing that Tsuchiya was fairly stronk, if she was hunting alone for upwards of a year. But probably not Mami-uber-tier.
  • If she was hunting solo, Hitomom might not know too much about meguca interpersonal dynamics/politics. Or she might know entirely too well.
  • What did Tsuchiya know? The witchbomb, the lichbomb? And what would she have told Hitomom?
Pthbt, I think there are too many variables.

Yeah, the first variable is why I want to wait until the second meeting to discuss Tsuchiya. Additionally, it's an approach that looks more human: We looked into her story because she seemed important to someone we have (indirect) emotional ties to, and came back with info. Snap-querying over telepathy and telling her then and there is a bit alien, behaviorally; it's not likely to inspire sympathy and trust.

I tried to address the second variable with the "scarcity" subsection; whether she knows or not, we change the rules by existing.

The third variable is the most dangerous, and it's why I want to warn Hitommy that some information can directly endanger people, right at the start. Combined with "Grief is literal" just before "Scarcity", that should give her pause in mentioning things that would be... startling.

So personally, I still feel that @kinigget and @Onmur have plans that are the closest to what Hitommy needs to hear (and we need to say), so I'm going to take a stab at fusing them together and then massaging them for the clarifying update:

[X] Sober up. This is serious, yet good.
-[X] Step 1: Invite
--[X] Confirm her suspicions; be clear and forthright.
--[X] Offer to explain as best as you can.
--[X] Warn that some topics are sensitive and involve either personal information you would need permission to reveal, or information that could put people very directly in danger.
-[X] Step 2: Inform
--[X] Make clear that besides the obvious dangers (fighting witches), being a magical girl has several hidden dangers, and that we are trying to dissuade Contracts.
--[X] Segue from there to Hitomi not being a potential, and begin explaining the first hidden danger, that "Grief" is a literal term.
---[X] Use this as a chance to explain how Hitomi, Madoka, and other non-meguca supports (such as adults) can help.
---[X] Subtly apologize to Mami, and explain that you've been planning to tell adults about magic for many reasons, this foremost.
--[X] Connect the resource-management of Grief to Witches, and introduce the second hidden danger: Scarcity.
---[X] Explain how our power in particular changes that landscape drastically; quantify Clear Seeds.
--[X] From there, lead into our power (and those of the team), and how they are very well-set against the apparent danger and the (so far explained) hidden danger.
---[X] Explain that an outlier (Walpurgisnacht) on the "obvious danger" side is approaching.
---[X] Describe our efforts so far to mitigate, avert, and overcome this.
---[X] Explain how she (and other adults) could help.
-[X] Step 3: Inspire
--[X] Discuss what we want to accomplish once the immediate problems are resolved.
--[X] Request not just assistance, but insight and advice.
--[X] Make sure to stay away from the Lichbomb, Witchbomb, etc.
---[X] ...but try and set up an opportunity to talk with her in a context where we can discuss them. It's important for the extreme failure modes to be known to more than one person.
---[X] Such a meeting would be a good time to discuss Tsuchiya Ritsuko, allowing us time to draw on multiple sources in a careful manner (dealing with Kyuubey when seeking information should always be done carefully, but it's the best potential source here).
---[X] This would also be a good time to go into detail on the hidden danger that is Kyuubey itself.

I added the Lichbomb to the "avoid" list because I strongly suspect that "mechanics of Grief" + "Lichbomb" would invite The Obvious Question, and there's no good way to defuse that.

EDIT: With the vote opened, I'm marking my checkboxes.
That vote looks WAY over the 150-ish word limit. And it assumes that she won't interrupt or take the conversation in an unexpected direction.

Easy solution: ask.

This is a conversation, not a speech. We can probe for information before revealing information

[] Ask how involved she was in the whole thing. Try to understand how much she knows about stuff without actually revealing the existence of the stuff she doesn't know.
-[] She confronted us for a reason... Does she just want to know more about this kind of stuff?
-[] Is she just looking to make sure her daughter is safe? Cuz she totally is! Hardly involved at all beyond just being a friend we can unwind with.

And that's it. The whole vote. Not 300 more lines. Just this.

A conversation.

... You guys can add in telepathy if you really need to.

[Q} Great news! Her old friend is probably long dead and quite possibly locked in an alien's basement chained to a generator that runs off the utter despair she's producing just by existing in her sorry state!
-[Q] Watch a grown woman suffer an emotional breakdown

But more seriously:

[X] We're glad her story is so peaceful. That's not how a lot of magical girls lives go.
-[X] Brief rundown on how brutal meguca life can be
[X] If she's worried about Hitomi though, she shouldn't be. Hitomi's not a potential, and even if she was you've made it a policy to try to avoid new girls making contracts they might regret.
-[X] Speaking of Hitomi, does she know how much her mother knows? We're contractually obligated to tell our friends, so...
[X] If the conversation permits, we should bring up our questions about doing business with Haruka - we need money and a sponsor, and we can provide some unique labor.

I think the safe assumption here is that Hitomommy hasn't been exposed to infohazardous materials, given that the decades have left her only vaguely remembering what Witches are and that Ritsuko vanished offscreen. Care should be taken with infohazardous materials, and jumping straight into 'being meguca is suffering' probably isn't the best idea.

We can certainly confirm that she's correct about us all being magical girls (except Madoka), but what exactly does she want to know about magical girls?

Happy 5000 pages in advance! :D

May the thread (and Sabrina) live long and prosper.

FOUR!

Now the fun bits going to be in two or three years once one of hundred and twenty thousand posts before us is deleted and everyone wonders what the fuss is about. :V

5000 pages

Holy shit, you guys. I never expected PMAS to reach the sheer popularity or the longevity it did. I'm kind of shocked I'm still writing it, truthfully!

I'm sorry, I don't have any grand omake or anything for 5000 pages. I've been busy with my studies and such - but I'm keeping up with PMAS! It's been a crazy ride so far, and I'm not finished with you guys yet, nor with Sabrina: I know where this story ends. I hope to see it someday soon.

So thank you. Thank you all for participating and reading, each and every one of you. You're what keeps this Quest going. Thank you for five thousand pages of brain damage! It's been a blast GMing this Quest for you guys, and I have every intention of carrying through with it, as long as you guys wanna read it!

And I don't have anything special - but @Redshirt Army does!

Shower him with likes when he posts!

And again, thank you all.

Haha! While you guys busy dealing with this silly social shinenigans i have the honor to be the first to declare that we have now reach 5000 pages!

A hollow victory i know

Wait you guys have reach 5000 before me!? Arggggha! Urk!
