So propose we actually PAY Kyouko for teaching Sayaka? Alas we don't have a spare house... unless we want to set Warehouse-Kun up with beds and shit so they can stop living in stolen hotel rooms.
Getting Kyouko a place to live is definitely something I want to do. There's just this slight problem that there aren't a lot of places that will let you rent with cash and no I.D. I dunno about Japan, but most hotels in the U.S. won't let you get a room without a credit card and the ones that will are extremely sketchy.

Mainly because the US economy is distorted against that sort of work right now. It's tied in with real-wages being stagnant for most of the American workforce since the 1970s.
Yes, I'm aware. I'm a goddamn labor leader IRL. I know how little most people make. Which is why I'm confused by Redshirt implying that $80/hour is a typical wage for skilled labor.

Well we have Oriko's warehouse, Warehouse-Kun and Oriko's house. All of them are big enough to be set up to support the meguca that Naida said will be flowing in. Could set up an apartment inside Oriko's warehouse for Kyouko and Yuma while we turn the rest of the place into a hostel for visting guca.

Please note that "skilled professional" presumably includes lawyers, doctors, MBAs, and the like, and that for consultants/trainers who are expected to work few hours and not be part of a company that covers various costs would tend toward the higher end of the scale.

Oh, and that pay tends to vary based on cost of living in the region, and Japan tends to have higher cost of living than the US.

I'm pretty sure Kyouko would prefer to keep breaking into hotels, rather than go live in a warehouse.

I really want to get adults in on magic, and then ask them to help house the meguca somehow.

We can throw gold bars at them until they relent!

.... what if we use our gold to get a REALLY nice bed

and chairs choosen by Madoka!

AND CAKE FROM MAMI

o_O That's $166K+ per year. What exactly is your definition of a "skilled professional"?

A skilled craftsman, someone who actually works with their hands, makes an average of about $65K/year.

I consult for something a hair south of that. Software developer with academic experience in artificial intelligence and robotics including a number of publications. I could get a lot more, but I only have a couple years of industry experience because I'm only 26, and I work outside my specialty because it turns out that not many people run humanoid robots. :p

Like people are saying, Kyouko is a uniquely skilled professional in a very narrow field that's not often a consideration but is absolutely critical when it becomes relevant. She can pretty much demand a blank check.

THAT SAID, I think that we might want to look up what actual salaries look like right now. I can easily see wishes having seriously screwed with both local and global economics.

I thought about that. The only problem is that Kyouko would probably be reluctant to "abandon" her territory.

Although that brings us back to the idea that we could give Kyouko carte blanche to hunt on our turf.

I've known too many middle managers to believe that an MBA requires any sort of skill. :p

If we think of it like a lawyer, where she only works in brief spurts, then $100 for every hour that she's actually working seems reasonable.

[ ] Offer cleansing. Ask if her opinion on the clear seed hasn't changed. Inform her of which groups you've distributed seeds to (but also that Ishinomaki declined).

[] Discuss Sayaka's lessons:
- [] Telepathy Sayaka, then determine a schedule. Mitakihara is playing host to some guests tonight, but after that anytime should be alright.
-- [] A few times a week in the evening, perhaps once a weekend as well?
- [] Offer skilled professional consulting rates as payment. Try to make it not feel like charity.

[] Offer to connect her with Inoue Yuuki in Ishinomaki - her magic lets her hack various systems to insert records, and she does commissions.

[] Head to Asunaro, ditch the utility fog for first impressions purposes.
- [] Present yourself as you actually are: cheerful dweeb who wants to help but has the ability to actually do so.

Vote draft. We don't exactly have the ability to look up PMAS-verse wages in the middle of this conversation, unfortunately, so it's already too late if there's a major discrepancy there.

I'll leave the exact payment details up to the autopilot to neatly sidestep most of this debate, but 8000¥ an hour or so still feels about right to me.

Well, yes. She's effectively a consultant, and so getting paid consultant level per-hour rates for part-time work is appropriate.

Since at the moment we're her only "client", and since she isn't going to be working for us for more than ten or so hours a week, her "actual salary" comes out to ~40k a year at most, anyway.

This might be better payment than cash, considering her situation.

I like the idea of cash since if we can hook her up with the hacker then she could get paperwork to make her look like an empanicapted minor or similar things and she could get an apartment of her own or something.

Yes, exactly, among other things, like being able to eventually sign Yuma up for school. Offering to connect them is very important.

In addition to payment in normal money, It occurs to me that we could also pay Kyouko the old fashioned meguca way. Even if she never uses clear seeds, it could be possible for her and Yuma to build up a stockpile of grief seeds if we're feeding into that as part of our payment.

Plus, even if there are things money can help her with, grief seeds are what she's most likely to care about in the here and now.

-[] Ask her in the future to at the very least give us any filled Grief Seeds she has, rather than Kyubey. If nothing else, you can recycle them for other needy girls, and you can use the extra Grief yourself because you're totally a Witch

We can pay cash and offer hunting rights and housing assistance as a signing bonus.

The thing is, she already knows this. We refreshed a Seed for her previously. She should have had up do the same for the two Seeds she had.

There's another issue that we need to bring up here: what the hell happened to Kyouko's Grief Seeds?

We can ask, and insist she gives us full Seeds. I think full Seeds take about a day to hatch?

Also, yes on asking her to hunt in Mitakihara. We haven't asked Mami, but I'm certain she'd be OK with it at this point.

And we... don't hunt as often as we perhaps should. So Kyouko would be doing us a favour.

.... what if we use our gold to get a REALLY nice bed
I know gold is soft, but I don't think it's that soft.

Hmm. Maybe offer that as a way she can repay us for cleansing, if she insists. It costs her nothing but some minor time and inconvenience and helps us a lot, while cleansing her costs us nothing but some minor time and inconvenience and helps her a lot.

Either they filled up due to grief accumulation from her being upset over the church demolition, or she had them stolen from her. She won't be happy to talk about either case.

Idea: Instead of money or Warehouse-kun, why not have them shack up with Oriko? Her house has the space and is well furnished, and I'd imagine that Oriko would be willing to subsidize their living expenses in exchange for extra bodyguard and getting her arm healed. Also, the Kures already have a Clear Seed for them to fall back on in case of emergencies.

EDIT: Did I misread something, or don't they have two partials on them, just like we left them?

[Q] Offer hugs (all around).

Because Oriko was the one who sent KB Yuma's way, causing her to Contract.

-[] If she insists on repaying us for it, having her give us entirely filled grief seeds would be useful - you can use both the containers and the actual grief itself. (She'll possibly open up about what happened to her seeds given this prod. If she doesn't, don't push.)

Draft V 2.0.

I'm concerned that mentioning hunting on Mami's territory might set her off...

I'm not sure I really give a damn about her being "happy" about us talking about things. She went through two entire Grief Seeds in as many days, and is now running on empty. If we leave this alone again, by the time we see her again we might be talking to Ophelia.

I think we can just ask how's hunting, then when she says it's going bad, we say there's too many witches in Mitakihara, and ask her to hunt in Mitakihara.

We pretty much can speak for Mami on the issue, and we're not asking Kyouko to hunt together with Mami.

Maybe she can partner with Sayaka for Witch hunts.
