"I'm sorry," Sabrina said again. "But... no matter what, I still want to help you. I'm still your friend, Mami, if you can forgive me."
Mami didn't know, how to react. She felt ... unclean. She always thought, that no matter what, she had at least one friend in the world, but now found out, it was all a lie. Kyubey ... and Sabrina ... Who was really her friend? Was she cursed to be alone because she threw away her soul?
"Y-yo-" Mami croaked. "I-I... I w-
want to b-believe you. A-and y-you're a good p-person and I-I-
please, S-Sabrina, I, I-"
"Shh," Sabrina hugged her tightly. "Always, Mami. I'll be here, if you let me."
'No! That's a lie too! She will abandon you... Better to reject than be rejected though ...'
"Y-yo-" Mami struggled weakly, pushing herself away from Sabrina, and, she ,wincing, let her. Mami felt tears of bitter betrayal veiled her eyes. "B-but, bu- y-yo-

'Come to me! Forget the world... come to ME!
And Mami was elsewhere. Distant children's laughter and joyous music filed her ears. She blinked trying to remember what happened. She blinked her tears away from her eyes looking around her. She stood in a room full of boxes decorated by ribbons and wrapped in colourful wrapping paper. The long table was set with pristine white tablecloth with cakes and teacups.
'Oh ... How could I forget ... It's my birthday, isn't it?' Mami could feel her eyes moisten again. Then the door opened and there she stood. Ten years old girl in her best clothes with long gold hair in two simple pigtails.
"Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday Candeloro, hapy birthday to me..." she sang.
Mami was now captured in her memories of her happiest day in live. When she was ten, her parents, normally too busy, made time to organise this birthday party for her. All her friends were invited and helped too, wearing those silly maid clothes. Mami was giggling then, making good natured fun of them and they didn't mind one bit. It was the best day, best birthday ever ... Her eleventh birthday she was alone, her parents out of Japan on some important business. The same for her twelve birthday. She made her own party then, but it wasn't simply enough. And when she turned thirteen ... No, she didn't want to think about her thirteenth birthday...
"Hello Mami. Are you here for the party? Here in the ideal world, where tea never runs out and cake is always fresh. Where your friends never betray you like Sabrina did or abandon you like Kyouko did. There, our friends come, see?" the girl pointed to two figures that emerged from the shadows clothed in their ridiculous maid costumes carrying plates with teacups on them. They waved to them before setting the cups down and running to the girl to embrace her lovingly. The young girl giggled squirming in their arms, she sounded so happy, so carefree... So innocent.
"Help me Mami! To build our ideal world, where tea-parties and our birthday never ends, where everyone lives and you could forget the cruel world you left behind! Became me and live with your new friends forever!" the young girl was now dancing, twirling in her fancy clothes nearing to Mami step by step.
"You only need to curse the cruel world ones and everything here is yours. Do it Mami!"
Mami was startled. Something was terribly
wrong, but also terribly
right. 'To curse the world? Where I heard the phrase before?' she wondered. 'But perhaps it's for better. Perhaps the cruel world that lied to me so many times and held only pain didn't deserve anything but my contempt and hatred. Perhaps here I will be free and happy again.'
Mami opened her mouth to speak, while the girl (Candeloro?) reached for her to embrace her ...
Music track no 2 - The Rebellion story "I was waiting for this moment!"
Then the world, Mami was in, shook, the tableware and the gift-boxes falling down. Candeloro shrieked, startled by what was happening. And then two titanic hands tore the world around Mami and Candeloro like tissue curtain. Terrible face framed with white hair with dead pitch black eyes stared down on them. Candeloro cried in fright and rage before the hands tore down the curtains pretending to be birthday party crumpling them into familiar dark violet marble tossing it to the face who swallowed it down staring on Mami, Candeloro and Candeloro's friends emotionlessly.
Candeloro shrieked something to her friends, who then attacked the Titan with their weapons - spear and large hammer - but with the success of gnats attacking elephant. The giant's hand swatted them effortlessly turning them into smoke, capturing it, condensing it and swallowing the marble once again. And then a hand reached for Candeloro. The girl lashed against it with familiar ribbons (Mami's ribbons..), but with no effect. She was captured, and the hand
squeezed ...
Mami was shrieking in terror unable to turn away. She thought, that the girl would turn into bloody mush in the merciless hand, but to her surprise Candeloro turned into bunch of yellow ribbons. The hand squeezed them again turning them into violet marble and the Titan swallowed Candeloro like a pill.
The second hand grabbed Mami, who, too enraptured with Candeloro
's fate, didn
't even noticed before it was too late. She was shrieking incoherently trying to get free, while the hand lifted her to the titans face who studied her with detached curiosity before she swallowed her alive and intact. Mami passed out...
Music track no 3 - The Rebellion story "This is my despair!"
...only to be startled by familiar face too close for the frightened girl
's comfort. Familiar hands, now human sized held her in embrace, while the face (with blue eyes not black!) was staring on her worriedly. She was trying to tell Mami something, but the shocked girl wasn
't in any state to understand her.
Mami flinched with a quiet whimper, leaning backwards. Away from Sabrina. She could feel herself going into a shock, terrified beyond reason. She whimpered piteously again shrinking into a wretched, miserable huddle, hugging her legs to her chest with wild, frantic eyes staring at Sabrina.
Again Sabrina was trying to reach to her, but Mami was seeing the terrible face swallowing her and couldn
't hear her through her own panicked blood throbbing in her ears.
A keening noise came from Mami
's throat, like from an injured animal, as she swayed slightly, tears still dripping in slow, fat droplets down her face. Her eyes, swollen, stayed on Sabrina
's face, searching desperately for answers to questions even she didn
't know.
"Mami," Sabrina
's voice got through to the frightened girl. "Mami, please... even if you can't forgive me... please stop hurting yourself like this.
Please."
'Hurting myself? What are you...? It was you, who hurt me, wasn
't it?
' Mami averted her eyes from Sabrina. "I-I... G-g-go a-a
wa-", she couldn
't look on her companion. She was miserable and still too frightened.
'I want to wake up from this terrible dream. I want to make breakfast and joke with Sabrina, my friend, not this nightmare with her face, to share my food with Kyubey, my old and constant companion. I want my life back...
'
Mami burst into wails of utter misery, hugging her knees tightly, a small, wretched ball of misery, not looking up, while she cried.
... two little clinks of metal on tile. That caught Mami
's attention. She looked up to see Sabrina
's own miserable face. And two griefseeds.
'Oh ...
'
"Mami..." Sabrina spoke, while Mami took little peek at her over her knees. "If..." she swallowed. "If your Soul Gem gets too dark, p-please, use these."
She reached out a hand to her... and winced, shoulders sagging when Mami swayed back terrified again by those hands too alike as the Titan
's ones.
"Mami... I'm
not going to leave you. But I'll give you some space. I'll be in the kitchen, OK?" Sabrina then left, her feet unstable.
Mami was alone and started crying again. She knew, Sabrina would not come back ever again ...
