I think that Speck was thinking in terms of leaving the apartment building as a whole, but even then most apartment buildings aren't 100 meters. Although Madoka's family does seem wealthy enough to possibly live in a condo on the upper floors of some huge tower, but in that case we'd just go to the roof (which is where we keep most of our grief in Mami's apartment).

Seriously, Madoka's family has some serious bank. That house looks like it would cost millions of dollars even in countries without desperate land shortages.

Maybe she was laying the groundwork for the sleepover? Getting her dad on her side before she asked her mom? Hitting him up for a shirt that would fit Sabrina and telling him that Sabrina and Mami would only need one mattress? :cool:

They could just live out in the suburbs somewhere. Japan doesn't so much have a land shortage as they have a population who, one and all, love city living and mostly congregate into overcrowded city centers. There are currently eight million abandoned properties in Japan, and the problem is getting worse at a rather fantastic rate, at least partly because property ownership in Japan is excessively burdensome and expensive but mostly because everyone is getting older and nobody is having kids anymore.

Can't be too far from the major urban center. Putting aside commuting to school (I know Japan has a pretty epic mass transit setup), she was able to get to the impending fight between Sayaka and Kyouko in Episode 6 on very short notice when Kyubey told her about it, and the evacuation of Mitakihara also required her family to evacuate their house.
 
Hmm. I wonder if we should do a detailed scan of our friends houses at some point, so we can reconstruct them as well as possible after Walpurgisnacht?

Encode the information into some hyper-dense grief format and just carry the grief chip it's on around with us.

If Mami's place is any indication, we'd probably witch out just trying to understand the houses. I mean, sure, what we saw of Madoka's house seemed contiguous, but then so did Mami's... We just haven't found the contradiction yet.

You don't get it, man. The contradictions, the impossible angles, the non-euclidian madness... grief is the perfect medium to store that information in! We already made a replica of Mami's apartment in our Barrier!

How long does it take to make a Clear Seed, anyway? It shouldn't be more than a few minutes, so there's really no reason not to just do it now, while reminding Homura that we really don't need to worry about O+K since they've surely been making out staring soulfully into each others' eyes all night long.

Well, the interesting thing about Monopoly is it's actually a lot quicker if you play it using the actual, official rules, rather than the house-ruled version that everyone plays. That means no money on Free Parking, following the auction rules, etc.

That said, yeah, probably not the best game to play. Something cooperative like Forbidden Island would probably be better. Unfortunately, of the four girls it's almost certain that Madoka's the one who is going to be the ultimate decider of what game to play:
  • Homura will obviously know how to play any game that Madoka would come up with, and is like a decade or more older than everyone else so probably knows more games than anyone but us.
  • Mami's a gaming geek so she'll be up for anything.
  • And I'd be very surprised if Madoka comes up with a game that no one here knows.
  • So, it's Madoka's house, and of anyone she's the least likely to know hot to play Random Game X, so we're pretty much stuck with whatever she knows how to play, if we don't want to spend a long time explaining the rules to whatever we picked.

Making a Clear Seed involves sucking ALL of the Grief out of a Grief Seed. There is a LOT of Grief in a Seed.

We'd need somewhere to put it all, and it'd fill the room in the mean time.

That's all well and good when you're not really paying attention to how things fit together - grief cheats little physical limitations such as objects cannot overlap. But if we have to map things out, we're going to have to confront the fact that it's a non-grief-based non-euclidean space.
Grief's the perfect medium, yes. But we're not the perfect transcriber... Hm. I suppose if we grief up stuff to automatically map it and transcribe it, then grief up stuff to shape it from the data without reading it, it might work? But then there's error checking...

[x] Observe to Mami that the two of you have some great friends.
[x] Do something friend-y and fluffy to fill time until bed. Board games, video games, watch some anime, maybe you could run a quick one-shot tabletop session, something like that.
-[x] Keep shipping MadoHomu.
[x] Push Homura into getting some real sleep. Offer to make a speckled-enchantment threat-detecting proximity alarm so she doesn't have to stand guard, or if she still insists, tell her that you'll make that clear seed for her now and she can sleep in time stop.
-[x] If making clear seed, use grief to do it outside & above the house, then bring the seed back in the window when done.
[x] Cleanse everybody before bed.
[x] Migrate to Mami's mattress before falling asleep.
[x] In the morning, be sleepy. Cling to Mami. Mumble adorably. Nnno, too early, need more warms.
[x] Help with breakfast.
