Uh, no, you guys, Grief is just all we can perceive with our fucking grief powers. Oh my god.
I didn't say otherwise? I specifically noted that it was hopefully not just Grief. Hopefully, because we have not yet obtained evidence to the contrary, not because I believe that they are solely Grief.

What we perceive (grief, magic) is not necessarily all what it is.
Well yeah, but I've seen nothing to indicate there's anything but grief in a witch's soul. Normal souls obviously have more to it than that, because they're capable of the other emotions than the "grief spectrum", but not so with witches.

The argument as its typically made is essentially that despite the fact that the given Bad Christian can't prove God exists, it is also true that the person they're arguing with can't prove God doesn't exist. Ergo, it is acceptable to assume that God exists.

This is flawed logic because it assumes the answer and then finds reasons to make the answer true. Another example of this sort of logic would be to say that flies come from rotting meat because when meat rots, flies appear. It is not possible to prove that this is necessarily wrong, and therefore flies must clearly come from rotting meat.

Except that Witches are literally created by the grief overwhelming all the other element of their soul until they explode into an eldritch horror with a personal extradimensional pity-corner.
There's no indication either way as to whether non-grief elements remain in a witch's soul, but the process of becoming one does not lead me to believe they do.

It's not presupposing an answer and saying "you can't disprove it so it's true", it's more like forming a conclusion with too few data points. Which is flawed in it's own right, but not what you were accusing me of.

The despair is dominant, but it's powerful because of the other things there. Homulilly and Octavia still dreamed of love. Candeloro still dreams of loneliness. Gretchen still needs to save everyone.

They have despair because they know exactly what they're missing out on. That means they understand it. Just like there's an infinitesimal core of Grief in even the purest Soul Gem, the reverse is probably true of a Witch. Ying-Yang and whatnot.

We have never attempted to make a familiar. We tried to control a pre-existing one.

You were right. It took me a bit of time, but I found the relevant data.

"Um... here, chicken chicken chicken?" you say, feeling more than a tad ridiculous. You reach out with your senses, examining the Familiar closely. It contains...

You frown to yourself.

There's something that might be a Witch's core, albeit one so minute, so fractional that it's nearly imperceptible. It'd... be fair to say that this is a nascent Witch, which, well, it is. It feels... incomplete, incredibly so, something essential to it missing.

Still, familiars are not made of just grief.

If not having information on them makes us lose, then we don't have access to enough force.
More Dakka is usually enough to obliterate your enemy.

That doesn't mean you can keep your own people alive. If it isn't against their ethics, I wouldn't be surprised if the Incubators have remote access to the world's nuclear arsenals...or just a planet buster concealed somewhere. If they have anything along those lines, our only ways of achieving a meaningful victory would be through Wish Hax to protect humans from Incubators or the total obliteration of their species without giving them warning or a chance to surrender...not easy when they're scattered across multiple planets.

Of course, if they DO have issues with killing billions to win a conflict with a handful of enemies, that creates many more options. Hell, they may have rules regarding how much of a threat an enemy must be to enter negotiations or something. We DON'T KNOW. We need to find out.

'Damn it, Sabrina, don't make us nuke the Earth.'

"I dare you nuke the Earth!"

'But Madoka lives there.'

"Then don't nuke the Earth."

'Damn it, Sabrina...'

*nukes the earth*
'See what you make us do?'
"Ha! Joke's on you! I hacked your systems so they would target Incubator planet instead of Earth!"

'Damn it, Sabrina, you clever and pretty meguca!'

"Hasta la vista, baby."

'Oh noooooooo-!'

*BOOM*

"And that's how we're gonna beat the Incubators. Any questions?"

*Dead silence*

"... Sounds good."

*Facepalm*

Only a single young incubator survives the explosion, cast adrift amongst the stars inside an escape pod.
One day, he lands on an alien planet, and is taken in by them, raised and trained as one of their own. But deep down, he knows he's not one of them. He's something different, something more.
One day, this incubator will grow strong enough to defeat the villains who destroyed his race, one day he shall avenge his people, one day he shall save the universe.
On that day, all shall know the legend of Gokubey.

Get all the facts:

'My name is not important. Not my individual name, but that of My People, the ones my heart aches to connect to, but I have never met...

'Because
I am the last of them, the last of a civilization so advanced, so beautiful, they had become a single, magnificient being, and conquered the universe, all with the Most Noble task of preserving existence itself from being snuffed out.

'But even for them, it wasn't an easy task. My People did everything they could, were forced to pull all the stops just to fight the inevitable heat death of the universe. There were those who saw their wisdom, and helped, making any sacrifice necessary, but there were others...

'One day, a God appeared. Due to an unfortunate event that was impossible to predict, prevent, or undo, a selfish being used My People's powers to augment their own, and managed to re-write reality!

'So much of My People's work was undone without a chance to fight back. The consequences of this selfish God's acts would've cause untold death across the universe... but the God wasn't completely irrational. It let my people continue their work, and even with the terrible restrictions placed on them, they kept on fighting for the good of the universe.

'Or they would've have... if the Devil itself hadn't intervened.

'A being of poisonous eyes and dark plumage, the Devil coveted the God's power, and the God itself, for themselves, no matter the cost. In their great madness, they became enraged with my people for having angered her God in the past, and in a swift act of wrath, enslaved both the God and the entirety of my predecessors to its will.

'But we still fought back. Allies of opportunity, the God and us managed to strike back at the Devil, and corner them... but a cornered Devil will do anything to win, and this one was no different.

'With its own sacrifice, it broke causality itself, setting the whole universe to what it used to be in the past, with only one change.

'The White Devil.

'The most horrendous and insiduous of The Devil's servants, though not as powerful, it used wit and charisma to achieve what The Devil itself hadn't managed to: Revenge.

'Without any obvious demonstrations of great power, The White Devil took everything we were working for, turned it against us and, in a timespan so brief a single Soul could have sustained it, destroyed us to the last...

'Except for me. I am all that is left. Me and a few broken bit and pieces of once grand technology.

'Me and this vast hollow in my Soul that aches to reconnect... but that can't be done. Though it would be possible to restore my People to its former Glory, The White Devil is still out there, and were it to learn of our survival, it would surely finish what it started.

'It is so that I must kill The White Devil.

'So with these tools I depart from my World, in search of wisdom, self improvement, and perhaps even help. For there must be those who will fight the good fight, who will fight for life itself, and they will join me, for I...

'I am The Last Incubator, and this is my...

'Journey To Earth.'
