That's... probably a really bad sign. Beyond the obvious cause of soul degradation, it might be caused by going against her wish the way Kyoko did - she wished for meaning and agency, and few things are more contrary to that then being literally objectified.

An alternative explanation is that whatever is happening with Oriko is beginning to run it's course and that her soul gem is returning to the state it was before all this happened.

Typo finding time!
"Only what you told me," Mami says, smiling back at you."She's having some difficulty with her magic, and it's causing her a lot of pain."
OK, so... I've been hoping to make that pain blocking.permanent.

You touch Mami's elbow lightly, gently steering her aside. You throw Kirika an apologetic look, but she nods slightly. She shakes her head and motions silently towards Mami, an understanding look on her face.
Best Buddy is Best Buddy.

Mami smiles. "Of course, Sabrina," she says, voice warm. She glances thoughtfully at the door. "Miss Kure really loves her, doesn't she?"

You shrug. "Yeah."

She nods slowly, golden eyes fixed on the closed door. Eventually, she sighs and smiles at you, expression warm and soft. "I see," she says.
SUBTLE!

"I'll go get some chairs," you note, wandering out of the room. Mami, naturally, follows you.
Mami, naturally, follows you.
Mami, naturally, follows you.

Your gorge rises, and you gag.

You force back the suddsn nausea, the disgust with yourself for even contemplating that. You-

You didn't even like the thought of doing it to Kirika-

Mami's at your side, her hands fluttering as she checks your temperature with a hand on your forehead. "Sabrina? Sabrina!"

You swallow the bile. "I- I'm OK," you say, voice wavering. The back of your throat burns with stomach acid. "I- I'm OK, Mami."

"Are you sure?" Mami asks, peering anxiously at your face. "You don't look like it."

"Yeah," you say. "I'm OK. I just had a... really upsetting thought."

"Oh," Mami says, biting her lip. "I-if you're sure, Sabrina."

"I'm sure," you say, managing a smile at Mami and pulling her into a reassuring hug.

"A-alright," she says, leaning her head against you for a moment. Eventually, she eases back a little.
All in favor of never, ever, ever pursuing this line of thought again?

KFC Christmas meals are apparently a big thing in Japan- something about being associated with America and a lack of the ubiquitous stove?

"KFC!" Kirika says, perking up.

Oriko smiles at her. "KFC."

You raise an eyebrow. "... KFC?"

Kirika beams at you. "Yes! Three piece chicken meal for me," she says.

"... Mami?" you ask.

She smiles at you. "I don't mind."

"Alright," you say, nodding. "KFC it is."

:V

Merry Christmas, everyone. (For those not in the know)

To my understanding it's a combination of the Colonel looking kind of like Santa, and not really caring about the difference between chicken and turkey. Well, and a marketing campaign in the 70s exploiting these facts.

*Thinks about her close bonds with her friends, and her desire to make them all happy*

*Thinks out loud*

I love you all so much. Madoka, Homura, Sayaka, Kyouko, especially you, Mami.

... *Blushes*

...You love me that much...?

*Realizes what she just said*

*Blushes*

I... I... I...
A little more thought wouldn't go amiss.

The Tomoe apartment was filled with happy chatter.

Mami, Madoka and Sayaka lounged at the table, talking animatedly about inconsequential things, sharing tea and Mami's excellent cakes.

A little to the side, Sabrina's eyes moved down the page of a book, this one held in another's slender hands. Once she reached the end, she tapped the book.

Homura turned the paged, having waited for Sabrina to catch up.

Sabrina's arm went back to join her other one, wrapped around Homura's shoulders. Homura didn't tense this time, comfortably leaning back, using Sabrina as support.

The white haired girl hid a smile. She hadn't know whether she was about to push her dark haired friend too far, but after a momentary silent confrontation, Homura had relented; both girls ended lounging on the couch, leaning on each other, with Sabrina reading over Homura's shoulder.

Honestly, Sabrina considered taking out her cellphone and timing how long they stood like that; she refrained herself.

"Madokaaaaa..." whined Sayaka.

Madoka covered her lips, "whaaaaat? I'm just saying..."

"It was a very cruel thing you did, Sayaka," affirmed Mami in a serious tone.

"Ughhhh," groaned Sayaka, "I'm not talking with you two any-" she turned around.

Sabrina and Homura looked up, meeting Sayaka's eyes.

Sayaka turned back away. "OK, maybe I am talking with you two still."

Mami and Madoka giggled, much to Sayaka's consternation.

Madoka managed to stop laughing first. "You shouldn't play with people's feelings like that, Sayaka-chan!"

"Indeed," continues Mami, "you had your p-perfect-" she blushes "-waifu Sabrina, but you left her for some guy!"

"So much for Sabrina being your perfect, most favourite person in the entire world," Madoka shook her head solemnly... before her composture cracked a full second later.

Sayaka groaned over her tormentors' renewed giggles. "My only favourite person in the entire world..." she reddened, "is Kyousuke," she finished.

"Awww..." the three girls turned at Sabrina's sudden lament. She sniffed at Sayaka, "I thought we had something special."

"Your pants special," grumbled Sayaka.

Sabrina snorted, but quickly caught herself after Homura murmured something. She tapped the current page, and Sabrina hurried to catch up.

The conversation lulled into a comfortable silence.

"Hmm..." hummed Madoka.

"Hmmm?" hummed Sayaka.

"Hmmm..." agreed Madoka.

Sayaka elbowed her pink haired friend.

"Ah!" Madoka chuckled, scratching her head, embarrased. "I was thinking... is Kamijou really your... favourite person?" she emphasized the last two words.

"O-of course!" agreed vehemently the blue haired girl, blushing slightly.

"Oh..." said Madoka, looking down at her cup.

Mami shared a look with Sayaka, before turning to the thoughtful Madoka. "Is something wrong, Madoka?" she asked.

Madoka sipped at her tea before answering. "It's just..." she mumbled, "I'm wondering who my favourite person is..."

Sayaka blinked, nonplussed. "Eh, it's not that hard to figure out. Do you..." she grinned, "like someone, Madoka?"

Mami startled, throwing a quick glance aside, before turning to also contemplate her teacup, thoughtful.

"You too?" asked Sayaka, huffing, "you two are impossible." Turning to look behind, she said, "hey, Sabrina! Who's your favourite person ever?"

Sabrina blinked at the non-sequitur, pausing her reading.

"Hmmm..." she hummed.

Sayaka's eye twitched.

"... You don't ask easy questions, do you, Sayaka?" asked Sabrina, pensive.

Sayaka puffed in annoyance. "OK, this is ridiculous." She turned to Homura instead, and opened her mouth to ask...

She turned back to Sabrina. "Come on, give me something."

Sabrina bit her lip. "Can I pick two?"

"No."

"... OK, then..." Sabrina closed her eyes, resting her chin on Homura's shoulder, thinking.

"At least you've got it down to two people..." muttered Sayaka.

"Is it... Mami-chan?" Thought Sabrina out loud.

Porcelain clattered on the table.

"Or is it..." continued Sabrina, lost in thought, "Homura-chan...?"

Homura stiffened, just a bit. After a moment, she murmured something.

Sabrina turned, blue eyes meeting violet. Slowly, she smiled, tightnening her hug around her friend.

"OK, then! My favourite person ever in all the world is...!"

Everybody's breath caught.

Sabrina gently unwrapped her arms from around Homura, both of them separating. Sabrina, still smiling, got up from the couch, turned, and walked straight towards the one girl sitting completely motionless, staring up at her with wide eyes.

Sabrina crouched down, opening her arms invitingly.

"... Mami-chan!"

Mami gaped.

After a moment, she gulped, and not saying anything, she let herself lean forward into Sabrina's arms, wrapping her own around her shoulders.

Mami sniffed. Everybody looked away, politely.

Sabrina simply encircled Mami with her arms, and pulled her close.

They didn't let go of each other for a long while.

Re:KFC's popularity-- It's because chicken is seen as a more preferable meat than beef and ham like, unilaterally in the culture, and KFC hits a sweet spot of being really greasy, tasty, and gross without being fake--Culturally, McDonald's is like...

Imagine you live in a culture where gluttony is strongly discouraged, and your meals tone down pretty much all flavors into being a garnish. You don't eat things MADE OF chocolate for desert, you eat like, something rice-based with chocolate icing or something, for example. It's to curb appetites like how most dieting techniques work.

Now imagine your culture's grown to accept fast food. It is now acceptable to, once in a while, go completely Western and just pig out on disgusting, nasty, greasy, oh-my-god-it's-cocaine tasty goodness.

Are you gonna get a kinda-meh cheeseburger that was literally taken out of a box and microwaved, or are you going to get fried chicken that has the same addictive endorphine response as chocolate, bacon, or heroin, made with fresh ingredients that don't give you cancer?

Also, yea, it's a huge Christmas tradition since like the 70's and not everyone has a stove and shit.

Re:Slow Visions-- WELP THAT'S REALLY STRONG EVIDENCE HER WISH IS FEELING REJECTED. GOTTA FUCKING END THE HOUSE ARREST OH MY GOD.

Re:Sabrina's retching-- Hey guys I figured out how to make Sabrina mimic our body movements!

Re:Kirika-- The studies are in. Molecular analysis confirms that she is atomically composed, literally, of pure perfection. Protect at all costs.

People would say its a complete watse of time, so it'll be probably impossible to get that vote passed.

To be fair, making a copy of PMMM is a complete waste of time right now- Sabrina already knows the entirety of it by heart, we can't show it to anyone at the moment, and there's always the possibility of the bunnycat scanning it and ruining everything, however small. It might be something to do post-Walpurgis and QB, though.

That makes it worse than just a waste of time, then.

Rejection of wish leads to wish-related magic no longer working,
There must be a source for this. I'm not asking for it.

What I am asking is whether the constant pain is part of the package. If there's precedent, then it should be easy to determine whether that's what this is. If there are major differences, which I'd assume based on the fact that we are still looking for 'major evidence', then wouldn't limiting our understanding of the situation be harmful?

I'm probably not being clear... I see three possibilities, and saying 'this is what that is!' Could be harmful for two of them.

1st- Rejection of wish

2nd- Rejection of wish and something else

3rd- Something else.

Re:Slow Visions-- WELP THAT'S REALLY STRONG EVIDENCE HER WISH IS FEELING REJECTED.

If there's a prior incident you guys know of, the first possibility should be easy to recognise. The fact that the above quote was written suggests that there's a lot of confusion about what is going on, which suggests at least the second possibility, that something unknown is happening alongside the wish rejection thing. Which we absolutely still need to figure out.

... Maybe my logic is too convoluted. "oh look, strong evidence for possibility number one? That means it has to be possibility number two!"

Kyouko. Kyouko rejected her wish and lost her wish-magic. She didn't have pain and klein-bottle Soul Gem shenanigans, but even Kyubey's straight up like "yea I dunno Precog is an extremely special and problematic power," combined with Oriko's insistence that she's doomed to die no matter what we do.

It's entirely possible she's causing her own destruction with her pessimism, prescribing her future instead of describing it.

National christmas traditions can be weird.

For example, guess what I (and millions of other Swedes) did today at 1500 hours local? Erry year without fail since '59.

Here's an idea: Let's go talk to Kyouko about this. If she asks how we know, blame the precog.

No need to get personal, just ask about the symptoms of Wish-rejection. See if her Soul Gem looks like Oriko's.

Or try to create a manual describing the condition of Oriko's Soul Gem, being careful to limit the information to it's form, function, and the current problem.
