Maybe not, but the vote comes over more as more dodging the Oriko question than trying to get Homura to see Oriko as 'unreliable asset, aka: most loops Mami '.

If we don't actively work to persuade Homura, that tension won't go away...and I seriously doubt that this reply is relationship breaking. Again, trying to play it safe for fear of 'what if it backfires' simply won't work.

Homura wants our opinion. We should share it, honestly.

And if nothing else, leaving the feather out is just more 'keep Mami out of the loop' when we really, really don't have to, even when it comes to the timelines thing.

If you're going to stress Oriko's usefulness, might want to explicitly mention QB. Whatever the white rat will do to get Madoka to contract, is a good reason to keep a seer around. Feathers is ambiguous/still questionable, Warpulgisnacht does not require Oriko's help...but the fuzball is something else entirely. And it isn't like he'll just give up.

Homura should know best on how insidious he is, and just watching Madoka 24/7 won't be enough.
While QB is unlikely to be behind Sayaka's Witch Kiss, with his manipulations, he could easily be (very indirectly, of course - such as giving them a rope to hang themselves) targeting Madoka's friends and family. He could contract someone-who's-going-to-witch in a dangerous time&place *cough Nagisa cough*.
Or, he could bring Sabrina's abilities to attention of other MG groups, and try to limit her freedom like that. He has plenty of options.
Having foresight on that would significantly rise the chances of thwarting him.
Not sure what Mami's reaction to this point would be, though.

As for the voting, I'm still undecided...

I do feel like Ugolino's vote might backfire, but the opportunity seems decent. I think that at least it won't backfire spectacularly.
Taking that to post-Walpurgis might still be a better option, as by that time the pressure will decrease, and Oriko will have more chances to prove her usefulness and loyalties.

I'm sorry if I look like I'm picking on you Ugo,

Anything is better than her current mindset of kneejerk paranoia and distrust.
We don't have a 'mindset of paranoia and distrust'. We've a freaking complicated situation where everybody's way too close to their breaking points. Oriko's pretty sure she's a dead girl walking; Mami's Mami; Homura's...

The vote doesn't get us into a debate, and that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if it did. I disagree that my vote does anything but be largely supportive of Homura's POV, especially with us mentioning that we AGREE with Homura we can't trust her. But if we can't get Homura to see Oriko as an asset, we have failed. Homura is never going to really trust her unless we work at it, the team isn't going to work unless we get more openness, and Homura's unease is just going to build and build until things give way, badly. Maybe not in and of itself, but its pressure we won't need in the future and that we can do something about.
We've been stepping over Homura's patience and trust issues pretty much from day 1. Getting into a debate about Oriko, 24 hours after that clusterfuck of a conversation would be pretty damn bad.

Remember Homura's feeling lost. She doesn't know what the hell is going on and is trusting us because she's seeing us get better results than her. Miss 'I won't rely on anyone anymore' is trusting us. That's a constant strain on her as long as we want to keep Oriko alive and around.

And neither vote is being nearly that supportive of Homura's POV. Homura's POV is that Oriko needs to die quickly. Saying that we can't trust Oriko 'completely' is saying that we're trusting her way too much from Homura's POV.
But you've been meaning to be more honest, more forthright, haven't you? True, that's more to Mami than anyone, but Homura's a friend, too. "And, uh..." you say before your nerve runs out. "I talked to Oriko, and she's agreed to help me with research on, well, clear Grief Seeds and... anything that would help impro-"

"She's dangerous," Homura interrupts you. "You shouldn't be trusting her."

"Yes, but if there's any dangers to using the clear Grief Seeds or anything else, her precog would be my best shot at finding out what they are without actually tripping into it," you say, meeting Homura's eyes. She looks... not angry, per se. Perturbed, worried, and... afraid. Just a touch of it in the set of her jaw and the delicate lines around her eyes.

"She's dangerous," Homura repeats. "You... you trust her too much."

"She wants to help save the world, right?" you say. "And we're her best shot."

"She could be lying," Homura says simply.
^This is Homura changing tracks trying to convince us to not trust Oriko. That's as much a concession she could make.

And, 'Homura's unease is just going to build and build until things give way, badly'? Sorry Ugo, but we're the ones that are building and building on Homura's unease. It's been only 24hs since we've had this conversation with her, and there were tears all around. We need to be patient. That might mean playing the rest of the quest until the very end without Homura ever accepting Oriko as a part of the team.

If not now then when and where do we start if we're never going to try changing Homura's mind on Oriko as an asset if nothing else?
Way, way later. Patience.

We can't make Homura trust Oriko. That trust is something Oriko needs to earn, and earning trust takes way freaking long, specially for such a special case.

Homura shakes her head, a single sharp jerk to the side. "I... Oriko killed Madoka once. It... she isn't necessary. She k-killed Madoka. She could still be dangerous."

"Homura... you know that..." you bite your lip. "You know that I was terrified of Oriko when we first met, right?"

"Then why?" Homura asks, frustration leaking into her tone.
"Enough," she says. "I... I can't convince you." She pauses, taking a ragged breath. "And I can't... I can't force you to help me."
As much as we might blame ourselves for using yesterday's conversation to change Homura's mind without properly listening to her, she was pretty much doing the same.

She doesn't want us to trust Oriko. End of the story.

There's no chance to take here. If we think we can change Homura's mind about Oriko at this point in time, we're simply deluding ourselves.

Sorry, but this time, we do something that will give us something of gain in the future.

[] Ugolino

The feather's right there. The proof Oriko wasn't lying. I don't think she needs more than that in order to trust in our judgement.

Nah, no worries, though we're back to the usual for PMAS. It's been a while.

1. I was referring to Homura's mindset.
2. We need to get across that Oriko isn't the enemy, she's an unreliable asset while not dismissing Homura's concerns. Patience in this case is flat out not answering the question, stalling, and basically sticking our head in the sand and hoping the scary social vote goes away while not answering the question Homura and Mami are asking.
3. We can't make Homura trust Oriko but we can start making the case for her to. ie: source of information.

I don't expect success in one easy step but I want us to at least try taking the first steps towards that rather than intentionally avoiding opportunities to out of fear Homu might not like it. That won't get us anywhere at all because it's just avoiding the problem. The SWB vote just dodges the question and goes for a personality-less reply to avoid needing to actually talk to Homu, even when asked outright. I don't like that approach.

Also, I really, really don't understand why we'd avoid talking about the feather. It's vital information for everyone, not just Homura, and we were going to stop doing the 'hide non-Mami breaking information from Mami'...and treat her as an equal.

No, we may not be able to make Homura trust Oriko. But we do have influence over her, and we should exercise that, because we don't just have reason to trust Oriko ourselves, we owe her.
Making concessions to Homura's unbacked 'trust me not her because shut the fuck up' is no way to treat someone who has, by all accounts, just saved a friend's life, and it's no way to treat someone you're trying to regard as an ally if you like having allies.
Besides, this isn't just about Homura. We should be trying to sway Mami, and we can't do that if we're giving undue weight to irrational concerns. We should be trying to cement Oriko's loyalty, and we can't justify that if we're forced to work off the assumption that everything she does is nefarious.

Onmur, you're right that Homura wants Oriko to die quickly. And the fact of the matter is that we can't agree with her on that, ignore that or allow that to continue, because if we don't convince her otherwise, she's going to decide that Oriko needs to die even more quickly even if she has to go behind Sabrina's back to do so. So, as difficult as it is, we have to convince Homura that things are better with Oriko alive. Because if we don't, Oriko won't stay that way. This isn't something we can leave for later, because if Homura becomes ingrained in he belief that Oriko is sabotaging Sabrina, we won't get the chance to fix it, because Oriko will be dead already.

There's a big difference between being honest about your opinion and trying to make other people see things your way. You do realize that, right? Look, I'm not all that opposed to it, but I kind of wanted to see Mami's and Homura's reactions before doing anything else. Plus, we can't exactly talk about the previous timeloops which hampers our position a little. And didn't we already tell them about the feather we found?

And as for SWB's vote...

We're kind of obviously dancing around the subject there. You think the others won't notice that? Especially after our previous positions on it? I'd rather not get into a fight about it with Homura, but I'm also not willing to hide what we're thinking about Oriko that much.

I think that should give our honest opinion on Oriko without needlessly antagonizing Homura as much as possible. Talk about our own worries and suspicions about her. Concede that we don't always display the best judgement and that this is a team thing, and ask what they think.

...to me, Homura offing Oriko behind Sabrina's back feels extremely unlikely, specially with the latest events.

That being said, Homura asked Sabrina for her opinion, and backtracking/worsening Sabrina's stance on Oriko, compared to the previous talk, doesn't make sense in the light of what just happened with Sayaka / feather / QB's shenanigans.

Not that I like how the original stance was approached, but going from 'let's give her a chance to prove her usefulness and loyalty, and work together', to 'let's treat her as a high-risk asset only and watch her every step', right after Oriko just helped once again...that's not very persuasive. Would Homura even trust that Sabrina means that, if we go that way? Or will she think Sabrina's saying that only to make her feel better?

+1 on giving honest opinion and not trying to convince others on it

While true, in and of itself bringing the feather up isn't a problem and should be done since it is relevant. My vote goes for what Sabrina thinks as asked, without dancing around the question, and does have sections dedicated to reassuring Homu. I did keep the last line of the SWB vote. Mine boils down to Sabrina being honest, talking about knowing we can't trust Oriko while framing her as a useful but untrustworthy ally that we can't rely on, mentioning the feather thing which we really do need to talk about...and finishing off with a line that pretty much is meant to help reassure Homu the way you talked about in the last paragraph.

High risk asset and 'work together' are pretty much identical in this context, and framing it as asset will get us a lot further with Homu for the same basic result.

I actually was comparing your vote to Murderface approach :D I could've worded that better.

My point mostly was, that Sabrina can't even pull off a believable Murderface; specially not after Oriko jut helped to save Sayaka.

Yeah, character consistency IC and OOC are a big problem with that approach.

a vote needs brackets with x's in it to count via vote tally, by the way.

OK, Homura's mindset of kneejerk paranoia and distrust. What makes you think we can affect that positively right now? It's been 24 hours since we poked her on this very same issue. Those bitter feelings she felt back then are still hanging around.

Patience is not poking her again so damn soon. We're not relenting on our stance of wanting to help Oriko and wanting to trust her, but it's way, way too early to try and get Homura to change her mind. Oriko's the enemy in Homura's mind and that's not changing. Even suggesting Oriko could be trusted on the smallest things will only worsen her mood, and nothing else.

We tried to take those steps. We tripped and fell on our ass and pulled Homura down with us. You're trying to take the same steps again before we've even gotten back up.

There's no opportunities to take just yet. It's way too soon.

This is pretty much one more round of Sabrina's problem of rushing into things until people snap.

We can't cement Oriko's loyalty on Homura's mind. At all. Mami could be swayed, but suggesting Oriko's not all that bad or that she could be trusted a little is exactly how we pissed her off until she shut us off yesterday.

Is this indignity? And we're making concessions? Where? We're not backing off.

We are working towards alleviating Homura's distrust on Oriko. We've tried to suggest Oriko wasn't all that bad and it didn't work. Why are we trying again? The exact same thing, just one single day after it was shown to not only not work, but to make things worse?

Please. Homura's not killing Oriko until we fail her at least. We can trust her that much.

1. Homura asked what we think. We should not actively dodge the question out of fear of how she'd take it.
2. We should explain how we see Oriko in such a way as to a)try and nudge Homura into a less fearful mindset, b)frame her as useful, c)make clear that we're NOT blindly trusting her
3. I think it's a complete mistake to let fear of our misstep prevent us from doing anything ever again about Homura's view of Oriko right after she asked what we think.
4. It's AlWAYS going to be too soon. Events move fast. That isn't an excuse to avoid answering the question/using the opportunities.

Homura asked a question. We should give an honest answer.

As for the feather, we need to talk about it, and it's relevant to the discussion.

I don't have the confidence to agree with that. The point isn't to get Homura to agree with us. It's to get her to think that we may actually have a point. At least, enough of a point that it's worth waiting and seeing rather than doing something drastic, which yes, I've been very afraid she'll do. I was almost certain Homura had decided to off Oriko as soon as she gets a good opportunity to when we last discussed this. One thing that we absolutely cannot do, is let Homura believe that we're listening to Oriko for no reason at all, or that we're blindly following whatever Oriko says. Because in either of those cases, Homura will decide that Oriko is threatening Sabrina's usefulness and will act to eliminate that threat.

Fear, fear, opportunity. I don't see these things.

I see us about to do the same exact mistake we did last time. It's not a fear, it's a certainty. No opportunity but to do things wrong.

Just about every. Single. Time we have a private talk with Homura she breaks down. She's breaking down. I can't understand how you seem to trust her mental state so much as to keep poking her in the same sore spot over and over again, without giving her enough time to try and recover.

What's changed in the Homura-Oriko situation since yesterday? Why would we get a different result for doing the same thing again? Oriko's warned us so we could help Sayaka. Likewise, it results Oriko's burning down Sayaka's house didn't actually help at all. I'm not sure where does this move the balance of Homura's patience/distrust, but it's not much.

She flat-out asked. We can reassure her that we aren't blindly trusting Oriko. Homura is not going to just snap if we state our position, carefully and in such a way as to make it clear we get her position, and if she was then clumsily dodging the question and smiling and nodding is not the answer.

We need to give an honest answer and try and take steps to work on Homura's issues. Dodging the question helps no one, let alone not talking about vital information because it's vaguely loop related.

Irony aside, we can trust in Homura's word. She's agreed to try things our way, because we're getting better results. Today, keeping Oriko around was essential in saving Sayaka. That's one point why Homura won't go murderface Oriko. With time, we'll get more.

I say we can't take those steps. We're tripping over our own metaphorical feet. 24 hours is not nearly enough time to re-poke this issue.

You know, neither yours nor SWB's vote has us backing out. At all. SWB's vote just doesn't attempt to move forward right at this moment.
