That's like telling Mami after she's been lichbombed: "By the way, Kyubey won't tell shit unless you ask", an innocuous statement normally that she could react to.
Or put in another way, the only outcomes are either Akiko doesn't react/understand or she spirals. Even if we can dewitch, we should ask other people before Akiko.
Akiko's still catatonic.I'm pretty sure that makes me sad, but I don't get it...?
Did somebody go into a coma or something?
Apologies, but I won't be updating PMAS tonight. Had a busy day.
Akiko's still catatonic.
Really, I guess this is my problem with the whole issue: I don't really care about Akiko, but about her friends that are stuck taking care of her.
Yes, they enabled her craziness and caused suffering and even death. It was their only way they knew to have a halfway normal life, without the normal perils of being MGs, and all they have to do was to go along with what their leader say and ignore the consequences.Actually I dislike her group even more. I find their actions in this matter worse. At least Akiko has the excuse of being mentally ill. Her teammates don't even have that. Even Rin was loosely aware of the arrangement, if ignorant of the details or the suffering it was causing.
But at least Rin seems genuinely upset about it now so that's a plus for her. But other then that, I don't like this group and don't particularly care that they are stuck taking care of their teammate. I find it the least they can do right now.
It would be nice if we could help that situation without a huge involvement in our parts. Stupid potential witchbombs.Even so, we're better than that. Not a fan of just leaving Akiko in a coma and having a team of girls who sincerely do care for her be trapped taking care of her indefinitely Fix her up and deal with her.

While I agree that this is the most likely scenario, we don't have enough information to be sure, and we also don't know why Akiko blames the Ishinomaki group. Neither do we know why Akiko has an obsession with stockpiling grief seeds.I think that we have a good idea what happened to Kato. We know Kato leaves, Akiko goes after her, and Akiko comes back with an obsession to gather Grief Seeds. Likely scenario: Kato witched out in front of Akiko, and Akiko killed her.
No. No. No. This would almost certainly get the worst possible reaction. We're trying to help Akiko, not to break her even more. Her reaction when we last started inquiring about Kato was to stonewall us and then to call in all her favors and recruit as many mercenary girls as possible in order to go to war.If it was up to me, then when it comes up I would have Sabrina say to Akiko telepathically "What did you do with Kato's Grief Seed?" An innocuous questions that I think the comatose Akiko would react to if I'm correct.
It's understood by Sendai that they're responsible for keeping Akiko under control. This was obvious during the final negotiation. But regardless, the first step in understanding what the underlying problems even are is getting her to a point where she can be communicated with.
I'm not going to argue morals, but I'll just say that I disagree with much of your assessment of Akiko as presented.
Of course we want to help Akiko (I never disagreed with that). My point is that healing her catatonia (without any definite plans for helping her other problems) is likely to just make things worse. And I am not at all confident that Rin and Sakura are capable of keeping her under control. Akiko would know the most about Kato, but she has proved extremely uncooperative on the subject in the past and there's little reason to think that she will be any more cooperative in the future unless something changes. Ideally, we should do some detective work to actually figure out what happened to Kato Setsuko before Akiko's catatonia gets fixed; in particular, some of the grief devices that SWB suggested that we experiment with may be helpful for tracking down Kato (or her body or her soul gem or her grief seed). We need to try and help Akiko too, if only for Rin's sake and the stability of the groups.
Well, I know somebody who's more afraid of witching out than dying, so esasy guess is easy guess... But there's other options, right? While I agree that this is the most likely scenario, we don't have enough information to be sure, and we also don't know why Akiko blames the Ishinomaki group. Neither do we know why Akiko has an obsession with stockpiling grief seeds.
We could just tip them off about the IG empath. SG would have to convince the people she hurt that helping out is worth their while, but hey, I'm sure they can figure something out.It would be nice if we could help that situation without a huge involvement in our parts. Stupid potential witchbombs.
Eh, I don't think we'd kill her. Lock her down if she's really that crazy. We could just tip them off about the IG empath. SG would have to convince the people she hurt that helping out is worth their while, but hey, I'm sure they can figure something out.
As for the Kato tangent - who cares exactly what the grudge is? It's gone more than far enough. Either Akiko'll finally drop it upon realizing that she's all out of allies, sympathy and second chances, or she's a dead girl walking. (More than the rest of us, I mean).
Our face when we don't get accepted as Empress of the World because we killed a crazy dangerous person once.Yeah, killing in general is extremely problematic and not a bridge we should cross without an excellent reason and no other options.
"Akiko's a nutcase" isn't good enough there, if only for the PR disaster.
More like Kyubey can casually mention that we're dangerous and killed someone in cold blood to every new meguca from now to the end of time and it'd be factually accurate. Our face when we don't get accepted as Empress of the World because we killed a crazy dangerous person once.
I care about Kato. It's worth finding out what happened to her for her own sake, and I also care about Akiko's grudge because it has burned everyone involved pretty badly in the past and is likely to do so again unless something is done about it. And even though she has severely tested their patience, Akiko is not out of allies yet, so she's still a potential danger in the future. As for the Kato tangent - who cares exactly what the grudge is? You have some great ideas for science; I love all the rest of them, but I do have a few problems with these particular ones:[] Use the method to revive a MG from unconciousness on Hildegard. Care not to damage the seed.
[] Create a grief-body. If one can be based upon the seed/soul, do so; a grief-device might be necessary. If not, just a generic functional body. If we can get one that we think might be close to the girl's original simply try touching the seed to it first.
-[] Attempt to connect the seed to the body via magic. We once believed we could brute force kickstart a soul gem into retaking a body. Same idea. Stop if there's any indication this might harm the seed.
I kind of see it the other way around: I think the real stupid-dangerous-crazy would come out soon after she believes she's alone. Good friends keep the crazy away... Keep the bad crazy away, not the nice crazy we share with Kirika., Akiko is not out of allies yet, so she's still a potential danger in the future.

You have some great ideas for science; I love all the rest of them, but I do have a few problems with these particular ones:
1. Trying to revive a soul gem from unconsciousness is all about reconnecting it to a body, so the first point doesn't really work on its own.
2. Creating a body out of grief and trying to revive a girl that way would not last outside of our control radius and it would be cruel to revive a girl into a temporary body only to disconnect her almost immediately. I would prefer that we first work on refining our healing so that we can produce a permanent body.
Other experimental ideas that have merit (in rough order of priority):
[] Test various healing methods with a damaged plant (or a mouse) to compare how long they take and how long they endure outside of our range:
-[] Healing Pod which uses organic material supplied to it (water, sugar, rosebushes, etc) as the raw materials for reconstruction.
-[] Healing Rod
-[] Magic Enhancing Gauntlets + Normal Healing
-[] Normal Healing
[] Pump healing magic into a clear seed (to see if that transforms it back into a soul gem)
[] Figure out how Mami and/or Homura's space compression enchantment works so that we can create a pocket space to store all of our excess grief.
[] Figuring out if draining grief from a seed permanently changes its nature. The best way to do this would be to slowly drain grief from a seed while it's next to a another seed and pinpoint the time where the first steed starts to be "quiescent" and the other seed starts to eat its grief. Then, start with a clear seed and fill it up (measuring the minimum safe distance distance along the way) and see if a completely filled clear seed is different from a normal grief seed.
2. I'm willing to try even if it's cruel. Plus, in the case that magical sustainability is what lets grief remain formed, it's possible that by connecting a soul to a body with magic, the soul's own magic will sustain the body, much like a witch's magic sustains its primary body.
Eh, I don't think we'd kill her. Lock her down if she's really that crazy.Use her as a test subject.
I didn't say we should kill her. I said she'd be a dead girl walking. If her bullshit persists and SG can't or won't prevent her from acting on it, we won't have to do anything to her. There's a whole queue of people with excellent reasons to want her dead, and we aren't even close to the front of it.Yeah, killing in general is extremely problematic and not a bridge we should cross without an excellent reason and no other options.
