If we are gunning to have "SCIENCE!" session, I sort of wanted to stick barrier creation in there soon (pocket dimensions have so many uses), and we can at least try it quickly. But that seems doable on our own time (seems low risk), and isn't as relevant to our goals and to Oriko and co.

While I don't think the boonerunner vote is bad, I think it wants to do too much too soon.
Oriko and Kirika would be great science buddies, but I think just involving them like that out of the blue is a bit premature.
I see no problem for this on the Kirika side, but Oriko will probably appreciate it, if we don't have her work everytime we come over.
I would prefer at least one visit that is just us helping them or hanging out and no precog business.

It's always nice when there's two different votes and I can be happy with both. I'm just going for srs business over waff because I'm dying to know the answer to that experiment.

I'm beginning to worry that we're conditioning Oriko to view us as a giant headache...

PMAS ebook updated! Simply use the link at the first page of this thread, they'll lead to updated files!

...and, hmm. Proper logo for PMAS, I see. My, it would be nice if I can have nice, proper cover for the book, instead of simply plundering from available fanart...

I'm beginning to worry that we're conditioning Oriko to view us as a giant headache...
Sabrina walked into a bar.

It had been a good three days since the house arrest of Oriko Mikuni and Kirika Kure came to an end, and things had been going quite smoothly with the two these past couple of weeks, so for Kirika to suddenly give her a telepathic call at an odd hour of the night was certainly cause for concern.

And so it came to pass that she found herself at a charming little establishment that not only served mean drinks and good food, but apparently also minors -- because sure enough, sitting at a booth were none other than the oracle and oddball both -- and the seer was
smashed. A small part of her wondered if this made her a taxi or just the designated driver.

"I . . . I *hic* see a headache in my future!"

Sabrina groaned as she sat down across from the couple. "Well, if you want I know some good hangover remedies."

"No, no," Oriko waved away the suggestion as though shooing a fly, "th'eadache's sitting in frontovme. Y' . . . y'know. You."

"Me?"

"Yeah!" The oracular meguca swayed in her seat, prompting Kirika to steady her with a hug, "Whenev'r I see you . . . y'know, face-to-face an'all, you ask me questions. Somany questions, tooooo many questions I'm gonna be sick in a half-hour. An'don't make Grief Brownies you'll turn Shayaka innoo a mermaid."

Yep, smashed. But, the complaint still struck home somewhat. Sabrina had been worrying that she'd been pressing her too hard, and it seems she was right to be. "Cleanse?" Was all she really trusted herself to ask at the moment.

A filled shot glass of equal parts liquor and Oriko's gem being pushed in front of her was her only reply as the seer knocked another one back.

"I'll . . . I'll help with'th'SCIENCE 'n'all, that's kinda fun, but . . . just wanna break."

"Right; I'll try to not ask you every little thing in the future . . . but, if you could still let me know if I'm about to do something horrendously stupid, that'd be awesome."

"Yougoddit. And I was wrong, sick time is now."

Kirika hurried to get out of the booth and escort Oriko to the restroom, leaving Sabrina alone with her thoughts, her thoughts, her other thoughts, a mental checklist of things to SCIENCE!, her other other thoughts, and a glassful of Oriko in front of her.

Tonight was going to be a long night.

[x] Text Nagisa's uncle about her visiting today. Establish a specific time. (Keep in mind Sayaka's hospital visit.)
[x] Telepathy Oriko and Kirika. They probably need to pick up some groceries at this point. It should be fine if you go with them. And of course, you can cleanse their gems too.
[x] Head over to Oriko's.
-[x] 20 minutes roof hopping practice. Then fly the rest of the way.
-[x] Cleansing.
-[x] Take both of them food shopping (or whoever wants to go.)
-[x] Light conversation. No need for serious precog questions right now.

-[x] Does Kazusa become a witch any time in the next two weeks?
--[x] If negative: Are the Saints capturing magical girls or soul gems?
-[x] Tell Oriko about our long term plans to use clear seeds to cleanse all meguca and hopefully to reverse witching. Ask for her help with these plans.
-[x] Enlist her and Kirika's help to spot us while we science in an appropriate place. Kirika can antimagic pulse if things go wrong, Oriko can tell us if things are likely to go wrong. Explain each experiment before we do it.
--[x] Is it easier to add/remove grief from Hildegard than from Gwen?
--[x] Alternate between completely filling Hildegarde and completely emptying it for several cycles. Does anything change with the capacity of the seed or the difficulty of removing grief or with the state of Hildegarde?

Have a like :lol
"An'don't make Grief Brownies you'll turn Shayaka innoo a mermaid."
"Oh! You know me well enough now to answer my questions before I ask them. That is awesome, Oriko!" you say with jubilant cheer.

Kirika nuzzles Oriko and replies: "Right?" with a smile on her face.

Oriko groans.

It also does a lot of things I wouldn't do. Like messing with Soul Gems and refilling Hildegarde. We gave Hildegarde's grief to Kyuubey intentionally.

@boonerunner
That vote is waaay too long. A lot of it is going to likely be unused.
It is pretty long in terms of words (so I don't expect that it would all fit into one update), but it shouldn't be that long in terms of clock time (unless we end up taking longer than I expect to shop for groceries).

We need to know if clear seeds are safe to be used as grief repositories (which would be regularly filled and then cleansed). If there's any danger to doing this then it's better to find out about it now (rather than a month or two down the line after we've cleared dozens of seeds and they're in general circulation). The experiments with the long term interaction between clear seeds and soul gems is similar. There is a danger inherent in these experiments, but we're making it as safe as possible by using precog, anti-magic, and grief-bending. The experiment with two soul gems is more to understand the nature of soul gems better so that we can figure out how similar and how different clear seeds are with the ultimate goal of dewitching them.

@boonerunner: No making bodies for grief gems, even with our powers?
Making bodies for the grief gems will (of course) be very important. That would be the next step after we figure out what the bodies are supposed to look like. Along with figuring out how to turn grief seeds into gems (which might be achievable by enchanting them?)

We already ran into a danger with the clear seeds that makes it a problem with putting it in circulation. That's putting them in contact with a normal seed. Until we figure out a workaround, that makes it too dangerous to hand the clear seeds out. Putting two tampered seeds in contact with each other is redundant until we can solve this problem. Though I agree we do need to find out if a refilled, tampered seed will function as normal.

The reasoning behind the soul gem experiment is irrelevant to the fact that we're treating Kirika's soul gem as an object we can experiment on. :(

Do you really not see the problem with this?

I'm ambivalent about finding this out now or later, but do you really think that we'll put them in circulation before doing this test?

Disagree. We're confident that it can be used safely. A clear gem that can become dangerous under some, mapped circumstances is still a shitload better than a standard seed, and only somewhat worse than a maybe-completely-implausible failsafe alternative.

This, though - agreed.

That danger can easily be managed with a little bit of instruction: "Don't put a clear seed (with some grief in it) next to a normal grief seed because the grief seed will absorb the grief from the clear seed and might hatch." This is exactly the type of danger that we needed to discover from experimentation, but it can can easily be managed now that we know about it. If there are other dangers of this sort, then now is the time to discover them.

It would be a problem if we did it without her consent or without letting her know that it might be dangerous. It would be a problem if the experiment was purely for amusement instead of for trying to help hundreds (or thousands) of people. But Kirika is allowed to take risks in order to help people just as much as we are.

The point is that we want to put clear seeds into circulation as soon as possible because they are so useful. So we need to test them to certify their safety ASAP.
