Even the most basic trade agreement (three full grief seeds in exchange for two empty grief seeds) should be fair enough to reassure Kyouko. We gain one seed (at no risk) from the exchange and she gains two seeds (which reduces her risk in fighting witches to 1/3 of its previous value), so it's an obvious benefit to both parties.
That right there was the kind of compromise idea I was looking for. Good thinking. She'd never consent to being a charity case, but that kind of trade she'll be only too happy with.

We should want to befriend Kyouko for her own sake and for her value as a friend to Mami- any combat benefit is really secondary here and we could do just fine without her when Walpurgisnacht arrives.

Kyouko's hardly going to be honest about what she wants- mostly because she's not really honest to herself about it.
We want her to be our friend, yes. We offered that last time though and she didn't bite. I'll take a grudging alliance with the potential to grow into something more over walking home empty handed. That's my fear right there: we go and say the same things we did last time and walk off with nothing.

Except that the simple fact a second meeting happens at all means that we're making progress. We can't give up on our approach just because of a seeming setback. Remember, Kyouko takes time to warm to people- and consistency will help. Her approach to Homura ended up being "eh we were just working together because we had to" at the end, right up until moments before she died.

Aren't we trying to convince her we're not trying to do the same thing she's used to?

Perhaps a compromise.

[] as the subject comes up: our reason for helping Kyoko is because we like to help others....and because she's a independent with skills and contacts that are highly applicable. In addition, not soly because of.

Looking out for ourselves does not need to be a wholly selfish endeavor. If others are important to us, then logically their well being is important too.

Kyoko is at the crossroads of appealing to both our generosity, and our long term planning. It's logical that we'd want to be friends.

That still just seems like we're trying to use her for her skills, though. That isn't really the case and we shouldn't suggest it is.

Well no, we aren't really motivated by her skills. But she doesn't trust generosity and this acknowledges our actions in a manner she can get behind more easily. It's a pragmatic acknowledgment of her use, and a motivation.
Now once she gets to really know us, and realizes:

"You lied to me! You said this was about my skills and abilities but REALLY it was about wanting friends!"

"Hon hon hon. You figured it out my red-headed firebrand" *twirls mustache furiously*
"The plan was to be your friend all along!"

It'd be better to just be honest from the start though, about as much as we can.

Even if we are working the friend angle, bringing up Walpurgisnacht is something we should do anyway.
As as aside to mention that we know, not that we're trying to recruit her for it as our motivation. Say we're planning to take care of it, sure.

It doesn't feel like we're making progress with her to me, feels stagnant. Maybe I'm wrong.

... I kinda want to make her meet Sayaka just to see what happens. Maybe throw a party to celebrate some random thing and invite her? Claim there will be masses of cake. She can't turn down cake and she knows Yuma would love it.

One meeting that went okayish until the end. And yes, blue meeting red is something we have planned.

We can't invite her really until she and Mami resolve their differences.

But she doesn't believe us when we're honest. We tried to be honest when we first met, and she got angry trying to figure out our angle.

Let's not come on too strong. Give the girl time to know us before she can realize our heartfelt generosity is exactly what it seems.

And it just occurred to me that we're getting SO flustered trying to think up how to talk to the simplest meguca.

[x] Let Kyouko know you want to do a little investigation of something first, but will head over to meet her at about 9:30 to 10:00 (barring anything unusual happening).
[x] Begin search for the glass witch/magical girl, starting from Homura's recorded location.
-[x] Use Gauntlet to boost scan range to speed things up (determine new max range)
-[x] Check nearest school (assuming it's not MMS)
-[x] If it's found as a witch, just do a quick kill
-[x] If unable to find anything within 30-40 minutes, check in with Oriko
--[x] Good morning! I'm searching for something, and wondered if you could give me any pointers.
-[x] If we find the magical girl, put further plans on hold while we deal with this
[x] Give Kyouko warning when we're about to head out. Should be there in a few minutes. SAL002 on its way.
[x] Treat Kyoko to brunch, and give standard cleanses.
[x]Be civil, update her on Sendai, the events leading to it and following it, and the Oriko situation. Ask her how she's doing.

I'm still waiting for the moment kyoko realizes we kind of broke mami a bit XD

Consistency's better than trying to appeal to pragmatism. Keep at it and make it clear we don't really have an angle beyond wanting to be friends and get on with her. Since we shouldn't. Kyouko's combat skills are nice but not really something to work to acquire, and we really want her friendship more than anything else here- if for Mami's sake.

Suddenly, Kyouko swings through the forum thread on a vine, wearing an animal skin over her magical girl outfit and a fake monobrow.

She proceeds to plunder every food-related word from the posts on the past page or so as she swings by.

We can be both. There is an overlap between Kyoko's uses and our generosity and acknowledging it is honest.

We are motivated because we want to be friends, yes, but also because she has the skills we've discussed. The company of Kyoko is it's own reward, but she knows there are other benefits and at least acknowledging them can assuage her fears of manipulation.

You know what was cool about the update? The observation blocking sphere worked, straight up. We should try grief that projects zones of effects and see if we can make exceptions to those effects next. Antimagic zone that excepts us and our friends. Seeing if our sphere blocked precog and if we can except Oriko from it.

not now obviously, but that was really cool and something we can build on

If we intentionally make the precog blocker feather shaped, we might be able to pre-empt her visions.

Okay, It's really bloody unlikely that Firn would let us off so lightly but a guy can dream right?

We don't really want to use her at all for her skills as a major factor though (honestly, the trio's pretty much all the firepower we're likely to ever need for a situation) and suggesting its a major motivator won't help us at all, though. If we acknowledge anything, and we shouldn't do this off the bat, it should be that we want her and Mami to be friends for Mami's sake too.

All this stuff about information and her being an awesome fighter? It's nice, but it's a bonus at best. We want Kyouko to be our friend because she's Kyouko and because she's Mami's friend.

We should try to recruit Kyoko for her skills as well, though. If Sendai taught us anything, it's that powers are great, but backup is better. Having more than the main three should be a given just because of how powerful Walpurgisnacht could be. Sure, we'll timestop the hell out of it, but the coming of wally is a wonderful excuse to make friends. We could say that we were worried for Mami's safety in the Walpurgisnacht fight, or something to that effect.

However, given that we won't be addressing that this update, I say we put off this debate until we have a feel for the tone of our conversation.

The thing is that I don't like the idea of "we want you to be cannon fodder"...or Kyouko's likely kneejerk reaction to that. Homura had to promise her the city for her to want to stick around, after all, and I expect her to be conflicted at best about the idea of helping.

"I won't lie, you've got some pretty cool powers . . . but, call it dumb or naive, but I'd say 'friendship's the highest thing on my wishlist right now."

"Great, sure, swell, but I'm not Santa Claus, so geddoff my lap, you loon!"

"Oh, you're no fun anymore."

Have we considered that Akiko's current state might be medically treatable? Very cursory googling suggests it might be. Obviously, the underlying issues will remain, but this might be a job for a doctor or specialist.
I'll add the caveat that by no means should assumptions or diagnoses be made from online resources.
