I'm reminded of Gwen's familiars, and have a hypothesis: A familiar is not as much a singular materialistic being but automation of grief in a single task - and we have been half-creating them all along, with grief instruments.
...That actually makes sense to some extent, but doesn't quite fit with familiars such as Nagisas or Gertrud's that have more complex behaviors.

For something like Oktavia's orchestra/dancing girls, that's a fair comparison.

Instead of making grief bodies for the Witches we convert, why don't we try and fix Kyoko's cloning power? If we could pull the whole 'soul transfer' thing that Kyoko has done on multiple occasions in Red Soul, then the limpet problem is solved. Not only that but Kyoko will be back at full power and likely friendly.

Because fixing Bestgirl's many issues that led to her losing that power is much easier said than done-- we don't really even have a plan on talking to her yet. Truly, social is much more difficult than bending the laws of physics and magic to our whim.

That depends entirely on if Firn runs Kyoko the same way as Thagguy, which he might not.

That's easier said than done. We've had long arguments on how to make small talk with her, much less fix her serious trauma based hangups. Not to mention, we don't even know if her clones work that way here. Probably not realistic barring unforeseen circumstances.

Considering that was sourced firmly from my ass, I rather doubt it.

Kazumi and canon aren't necessarily on speaking terms for PMAS, remember? None of that nonsense might actually have happened the same way, or at all? :p

"This barrier sings!"

@Ugolino: Why should there be a limit on complexity? We give grief a tune and it plays it just as well as we remember it, despite no additional instruction.
Your definition of familiar falls apart when you look at those and other examples- the walpurgis grief familiars, Nagisa's mice, and Gertrud's gardeners? They're quite capable of doing more than a simple musical instrument.

It would be a bit much for the city to be populated by entirely different people with completely different powersets.
something something timelines- but for all we know, the fake Kazumi might not have happened at all. On top of being poorly written, the Kazumi events seemed to have too many moving parts/triggers needed to happen the same way every single timeline?

@Ugolino: The AI-command we give is to "recreate this song from my memory, with self-created movement", at the very least, not just a string or oboé. Don't judge task's difficulty entirely by controls it is done with.

I'd put it on higher skill level required than most gardening or seeking cheese.

Besides, I don't think we've actually tried to order grief to do more complex things than being a band, and that doesn't require our help at all?

Honestly, actually having difficulty with imagining more complex task - a human may simulate one or two instruments at once, but....

But we should test with something more reactive, like "eat nearest bird" or "get in the way of bright lights" or "spin around Sabrina as she moves"....

The biggest hole with this hypothesis is our grief control range, then transmutation I think.

Again, assuming they occur during the timelines as opposed to before/after them.

Really, the best option if we manage to get to the stage where we need bodies for our soul collection is to raid some graveyards and apply healing magic :V. Preferably if the corpse is the original girl's, even. Might require some research into mysterious deaths or disappearances, but definitely possible.

e: this is only half joking, if we can match original corpses to witches somehow that would actually be fairly ideal

@SynchronizedWritersBlock:
With population dynamics, not really possible to get original girl, not for everyone.

Then it falls to the question how to acquire bodies the fastest/best way(there are lot of witches/familiars, so fastest is likely best).

My favorite option is Ishinomaki cloner, assuming her bodies don't disappear, then a healer. Healing up rotting bodies might be worth it without a healer, though, even with digging and seeking time.

Though, if we go full industrial, then digging up graveyards with armies of Meguca and bringing them to healers by truckload would be fastest.
