Well, I've got nothing. The witchbomb and Mami's issues just put us in a corner.

I guess asking to do this alone and kindly re-ask when Mami tries to refuse will have to do. Hope for some blind luck.

On that topic, Akiko's literally mad right now, and might try to do some nasty things. Should we leave our soul gem with Mami before we go talk with Akiko?
That would not help Mami's worries much ("What is Sabrina doing that she can't even have her soul gem on her?"), and would be a little odd besides. As long as we're careful, I'd say we'll be fine. Although, we might want to have Sakura wake her, so that she'll calm down.

I can only imaging the screaming if the first thing Akiko saw when waking up is Sabrina. Let us definitely make sure someone else wakes her up.

Also, while we can armor up before talking with Akiko... Giving Mami our soul before going in would be like giving our soul to Homura before going to talk with Oriko. Why did we do that? General safety? I think that applies here.

...I wonder just how would Akiko react if the first thing she sees is armoured!Sabrina.

I was under the impression the reason we gave our gem to Homura was trust-based. We wanted to spare Oriko, and she wanted her very very dead. Oriko was absolutely no immediate threat at that point.

Worth mentioning that Sabrina didn't keep track of Kirika while angry. Usually, she would know where each meguca is due to grief sense.
Well, there's no indication that Kirika actually had to move to avoid the swing, only that it came really close, so the above isn't necessarily true.

Ok, Mami was concerned about us after the rant, but was looking at us with worry, not reprimanding us as in past updates. Given the situation, it seems a justifiable concern, and not a sign of Mami going into more bad places. She did look away when we smiled back at her, but she also blushed when Sasami looked at her, so I don't think that has any negative weight.

Also of note, she actively took Sabrina's hand. In previous situations, she kept touching Sabrina as an indication that she wanted to hold hands, and waiting for Sabrina to initiate. So I think this is a good thing, as she's getting slightly more assertive.

I don't get why we're all that worried about Akiko going after our Gem or whatever. We could just put a cover over it.

She can't take us in a fight. As long as we take even the most basic precautions so she can't hit our weak point for massive damage we should be fine.

Bringing Sakura undermines the intent of "alone time for witch talk" and giving the gem has issues as raised above...
Issues? The only issue that was brought up is that Mami would think we're doing something dangerous somehow.

I see it as a simple precaution against being attacked, since the gem is the only really important part that could be targeted, we can ignore everything else aside from getting our head asploded.

Risk aversion. Our gem is literally our only weak point once we're alone with Akiko. Yes, it's easy to cover it by putting it on a shell, but some people are adverse to that...

So, 0% chances of failure are a million times better than 0.5% is my train of thought. And leaving our gem behind is not a soul wrenching desicion or anything big like that. It'd only take a couple of seconds and make Kirika ship Mami-Sabrina harder.

We already did full armor. Little late to be worrying about that now.

That... is an incredibly compelling argument.

Or float it in one of our grief spheres if we have to.

But seriously, the paranoia is just getting painful.
Paranoia/shadowruns is exaggerating. I'm not saying we should jump through hoops and take an hour to make sure Akiko's not booby trapped or something silly like that.

But I notice this thread's got a huge aversion for making small plays that cost almost nothing and could sometimes help a little.

Ok. Fukushima is leaving, and we'll be sending Ueda on her way as well (possibly after some questions).

While UG has stakes in the overall city situation, I don't think they can claim to have a say in the immediate handling of Akiko. They've been promised that Yumi would look after Akiko, and that Sabrina would ensure no one overstepped their bounds. The handling of an insane team member should also be a private affair. As such, I want to state it that way to UG: the inter-group issues have been settled, and now it's time for the private stuff. We can let them know of any relevant results at a later time. I'm sure they want a chance to go home, anyway.

Having said that, we still have personal issues to deal with with Akiko.

Risk issues aside, giving Mami our soul gem for safekeeping is actually a fully legitimate way to keep her away from the conversation. We're trusting her to keep our soul safe while we head into a dangerous situation. We don't want her there because it's dangerous, but also because she can keep both of us safer by not being there.

And of course, as is evident from everyone's reactions the entire day through, Mami is the most feared meguca in the tri-state area. Every single group has shown wariness and concern, even fear, when seeing her. Even in the past, Kyouko is well known for beating off intruders in her area, but no one even tries to invade Mami's territory. There is no possible place our gem is safer than with her.

So I'm totally OK with leaving the soul gem with her, not because of the minor danger risk, but because of the trust we'd be showing in her (both in letting her hold our soul, and in believing she can keep it safe), and the ability to use that excuse to keep her away from potential witchbomb conversations.

Agreed. We really aren't in any immediate danger talking to Akiko. If it's that important to you, we could just make a shell around the gem but we really aren't in any danger. You're shadowrunning pretty hard, here.

Edit: @Kinematics That's pretty much the only reason I'd see to do that. we aren't in any danger, but it'd show some serious trust in Mami, which would be nice, I guess.

Onmur, Firn has planned this quest for over a year. He feeds off of the shadowruns much like other GMs feed off of tears. I'm sure he's getting a kick out of this (and has probably planned for this circumstance)
