I'm for blackbirds and metal, so switch to that. Besides, warriors doesn't give anything but more dudes as a secondary.

Ok, good point. It'll at least have guaranyteed other effects, though as AN has repeatedly pointed out other effects aren't necessarily good things :p

You said people attacking us on those hills if we don't do it this turn. That is my reason for disagreeing. They would have to travel at least two weeks through badlands and attack without their carts to do so. It can wait.

We are not in the hills, we're in scrubby, hillock-y lowlands. The main argument against making the Eastern Hills province has historically been that they're likely to be attacked by DP. This period is the obvious time to go and have that statement not be as likely to come true.

The Baby Boom counter started last turn and was proposed to last 3 turns. One turn is gone. Two remain. We will make the Province this turn, meaning it may or may not get a secondary that turn. We do not know. One turn remains. If we make a Province next turn and it doesn't benefit, we do not get a *free action*. We thus are acting in a suboptimal way.

Meanwhile, we can do Expand Warriors next turn, which will bring our Mil from 7->9, and which will be paid for by the two free econ actions that the province is likely to return.

Did the post actually say "absolutely nowhere near parity"? How long ago was that post made? Did it come before or after Chariots were developed? Did it come before or after we did the Expand? Did it come before or after the plague? Did it come before or after the DP shifted toward a diplomatic stance and suffered damage from the TH and HK? Did it come before or after the fishing village joined us and brought a +1 martial with it?

Edit: I'm too invested in this vote. Too tired of blind, suboptimal militarism and a candescent desire to Restore Order. I'm going quiet.

You know what? I'm big on getting more military, but I can live with this. IIRC it will give us more information about what the other big groups are doing, so that's worth it in itself, and while I'm worried about our military it's in a 'must keep at it' kind of way.

Anything but spending another festival to dig ourselves out of a self-inflicted negative stability hit (that left us literally worse than what we started with, and with nothing to show for it).

And before people start saying they're ideologically opposed to Restore Order--

To "address the root problem" requires literal Alien Space Bats to lobotomize our population and remove our empathy. The corruption problems we're running into arises because the chiefs and upper castes are favoring their family. This is natural, human empathy and social bonding starts with and is learned from the people we're raised with. We're never going to get rid of it, so we have to rely on our [Harmony], [Protective Justice], and [The Greater Good] traits to control it. However, whenever we're at negative stability, those traits' cons activate and reverse their stabilizing influence. Thus, Restore Order is needed to crack down on the chiefs.

(Also, Festivals? Uncharitably, it's literally bribing people so they'll be okay with the chiefs' corruption. Remember, Stability also represents the population's uncertainty with their leadership.)

New sacred warriors, back when we had that option. There weren't enough to add to our score, expanding then or maining the action added enough that they become significant in direct fights.
We've taken it twice: once manually, once via mid-turn action, secondary strength both times.

I still think the new province is better but we need more blackbirds so I'm ok with this.

umm, what? The only thing sacred warrior thing we've done is creating them. Which, IIRC, DID ad to our martial when we created them. We've just never expanded them.

You misread my original post. I was saying that our current force composition has 0 martial from Sacred Warriors because we've only made new ones via secondary action and haven't yet expanded them.
Sacred Warriors - The Blackbirds have proven effective scouts, spies, and killers, but are there other ways to combine the knowledge of spirits with the skills of a warrior?
