Sing-Song Knife, Night and Void (Shard)
Having hopped up onto a raised surface in open land to sing songs to all those who would listen, you're feeling pretty good about life.

That is, until the songs are sung back. A winged shadow passes overhead.

You look up, the Void-Eagle looks down.

What do you do?
Alright Do or die then.

[X] Akali: Showing no fear for himself Akali makes way for the children so he can sing more to the bird drawing as much of its attention as possible, his Sun Striker art is brought to the fore as he shines making certain the beasts knows that he is the most precious prey.

He then waits for he had heard the tale of Kare who was struck from behind, his Frenzy would tell him of its trajectory and if it vanished into thin air or approached he'd not give it a moment to react before grappling it and trying to crush its neck under the weight of his martial arts.

The bird disappears in a puff of icy smoke, Akali's Frenzy working overtime to track its movements. Though his Frenzy had led him wrong in its intended course of action--or, at least, the method it would go about it--his intelligence more than makes up the gap in ability.

Whirling about on the spot, he leaps off the raised platform just as the Void-Eagle reappears behind him, beak primed to snatch up one of the now-fleeing children. But it was not to be, for Akali's arms wrap about its neck as he squeezes with all his sun-strengthened might. Bones pop as the bird squawks, but death does not find it this day.

Thrashing its head around, the bird manages to break Akali's grip and fling him to the ground. He scrambles to his feet, Frenzy screaming at him, but he's not fast enough. The bird's talon rips strips of flesh from his legs, robbing him of motive force.

The bird looms in the sky, its head blocking out the sun. Lifting a victorious leg, it prepares to deliver the final blow.

A screaming warcry splits the air as a knife sinks home. Plunged deep into the leg upon which the Void-Eagle stands is a child's little belt-knife, one belonging to none other than Bo Eriksson, the five-year-old son of Erik and Agnes Olsen. He stands there, shaking, as the bird turns its gaze on him; but even with the hate-filled eyes of death on him, Bo meets it with what little determination his young heart can muster.

And that's all the distraction Akali needs to soak up as much sun as he can. Hauling himself to his feet, the crown of the sun burning on his brow, Akali darts forward with his fist raised. Infused with all the strength of the sun, the fist flies with force unmatched as it sinks deep into the chest of the beast.

The Void-Eagle stumbles back, shock and surprise playing out across its face--both at the feat and the fact that it still lives.

Twisting on the spot, it hurls itself into the sky with a puff of icy smoke.

I got a bit inspired, what can I say?
Sing-Song Knife, Night and Void

Sight the singer of night, [1]
Song long returned he turns.[2]

Beak-snatcher to catch child,
Beat by grasping eat-meet. [3]

Wears and tears flesh in flash,
Winged of ice swings for win,

But Bo cuts Snow-Wing's legs,
Buys life with stabbing knife.

[1] Akali
[2] Void Birb showing up
[3] Akali grabbing Void Birb's neck - eat-meet is a kenning for the neck... it's a bit tortured I know..

Passives Part 2
-[X] Passive: Gather logs from the jungle beach further to the west, but don't remove the bark from them. Just sink them into the ground on my plot of beach to serve as stilts, add some crossbar supports to minimize wobbling, and then build a platform on top of the stilts.

-[X] Passive: Household establishment on claimed land (which I believe is E3? It's the one two squares "up" of the Main Camp). A dwelling large enough to house the four of them, himself, his mother, and his two siblings, is the goal. Maybe one of those blessed with a touch for Stone or Wood would be amendable to a Trade in the future, Fresh Meat for Worked Walls and Floors, but that's a matter that will have to wait until Fresh Meat is had.
-[X] Passive: Try to check in our our local guests and poke and prod at the language. Maybe they can tell stories about the local wild life and hunting methods, once we've learned enough of each others' languages.
-[X] Passive: Spend some time with Ma and the twerps. Check in on how they're doing in the wake of all this, maybe tell some tales about what they'll come to expect of these lands around the fire place.

[X] Major: Agnes starts setting up the foundation for the Main Hall, with an eye to making it easy to install Wards.
The Jarl is very pleased that you are aiding the community in this way, offering you the role of Lawspeaker as payment.

This means that, should any new laws be added, it is your job to remember them. A prestigious role indeed.

Do you accept?
-[X] Major: The Jarl wants farming to be done? Torgarr is here for it. He pours the greater share of his attention into multiplying the contents of the seedbanks through his labors... and of course, to farm properly, one must learn the crop. The meager supplies brought from home are fairly well-understood, of course, but differences in the weather and the soil are still significant, and he does pay attention for what adjustments shoudl be made. For the newer plants, they are comfortable in the local clime, but he doesn't know them at all well. Over a season of caring for the crop, and seeking to better commune with and understand it, he fixes that flaw in himself... and brings the lore of it back to the rest of the survivors, that all might benefit.
Having spent the winter near-solely focused on this, you have increased the seedstocks significantly. Not enough to be self-sufficient, yet, but still a major effort has been made.

+3 Ordstirr

In addition, during your farming, you found some flax seeds. Enough for a single field, but that's all you need to get started farming flax.
-[X] Passive: Torgarr is going to spend time setting up his farm, using his powers of Plant and Earth. He plants fruit trees for fences and encourages them to grow a bit (he'll encourage them to weave together later, once they have some more height on them). He uses fruit trees and a bit of earthshaping to try to grow himself a house. After all, why would you prefer a house that doesn't produce food for you? It's fairly rudimentary for the moment, but he'll grow it better later, once the trees in question have grown enough. Possibly ask for a spring from that girl who makes the springs. A local source of water is always nice.
Incorporated into the above
-[X] Minor Action: Build small (deeply sad) cottage at the edge of my land adjoining Njall's cleared land. Too worried about being eaten by trees to start clearing that alone.
-[X] Minor Action: Approach Uncle Torgarr (@Sirrocco ) and try to get him to ask Kare (@alexthealright ) and Oddr (@Starman ), both warriors/hunters and adjacent plot owners, to agree to help clear the jungle from the bottom three right plots over the next couple seasons.
-[X] Minor Action: Weep. Garden at my cottage, see if I can get any of the native fauna to be useful.
1. Small, Deeply Sad Cottage Acquired (No cost)
2. Did they?
3. Weeping Acquired, Garden Cared For

You also grew an animal, that swiftly ran away before you could see it in any detail.

Huh
-[X] Passive: Perform guard duty
-[X] Passive: Collect unused plant material (leaves, any leftovers from fruit, etc) to make into compost for everyone with Rot Kunna.
-[X] Passive: Prepare fields on claim for summer
-[X] Passive: Construct basic shelter
1. Gotcha
2. +3 Units of Compost, personal resource
3. Tier 1 Farm Plot acquired
4. Basic Shelter Acquired
-[X] Passive Action: Survey his plot of land. Maybe get some preliminary work on homesteading and housebuilding done.
-[X] Passive Action: Spend some time with the wife and kids. Do some very basic sparing with the little tykes.
1. Plot Surveyed, found a really nice spot for a house. It'll look awesome there.
2. Family Bonding Acquired
-[X] Passive: Erik builds his family a house. Another house. He feels kind of rushed and it's not his best work, except one very tight and leak-free corner for his daughter, little Ingfrid, to lay her head in.
-[X] Passive: Erik, often accompanied by his wife or mother, sometimes both if the weather is warm enough to bundle up Ingfrid and carry her along, all walk the property, blazing markers and looking it over, mostly with an eye to picking out several places to plant crops- grain and flax, the basics. Hard to be sure where they'll do best. Any other resources, such as good clay or whatnot, that catch their eye will of course be on the list.
-[X] Passive: Start preparing the fields. Erik's family probably won't bring in a bountiful harvest on their first try in a new land, but it'll be something.
-[X] Passive: Erik occasionally trades good woodworking for food. This may be helpful to some others, especially the fishermen.
1. Basic House Built, x2
2. Family Bonding Acquired
3. Tier 1 Farm Plot
4. Depends on if others took him up on it
-[X] [Passive Action]: Attempt to Ward the freshwater pool/spring created by Liz Clearwater to repel smaller lifeforms and grains of dust/detritus. (IE, ward the freshwater pool/spring itself so that it remains pure/clean.
-[X] [Passive Action]: Carve Runes of Bloodletting and whatever the equivalent for enhancing something's perception of touch/physical contact to the tips of the Stakes in the light trenchworks (assuming they are there). Ideally-- these runes should be triggered by the stakes drawing blood, with the bloodletting then hindering the wound being clotted and said entity then continuing to bleed (to continue to power the runes even more), with the perception enhancing runes amplifying the pain felt.
-[X] [Passive Action]: Using their Fire-Kunna and some of the branches from the felled/cleared trees, plant them in clusters around the inner perimeter of the light-trenchworks (so on the side with the Settlement), and when the sun begins to set each night before going to sleep, set them alight to provide those on Guard duty with visible light with which to see by, and (some semblance of) warmth.
1. No spirits D:
2. Gotcha
3. Spikes Acquired

If this is still open to new people I'd be interesting in joining a clan. I'm thinking of a playing a young midwife or a young widow.

Alright, I reckon I'll call the vote and end of season in 30 minutes. For the adventures still going on, I'll finish those up with you during the end of season level up time.

The Jarl is very pleased that you are aiding the community in this way, offering you the role of Lawspeaker as payment.

This means that, should any new laws be added, it is your job to remember them. A prestigious role indeed.

Do you accept?
Since you are the role of Jarl, sure...unless laws can be set by other people?

I was under the impression that women were not really allowed into court though.

Grimfari smiles, "A new land requires new rules, Agnes. There are so few of us as it is, it would be wrong of me to deny half our people their right of court." He shrugs, "Besides, I intend for the Thing this winter to be used to establish the laws and norms of our people."

Very well then.

Also, I guess that means no Spirit Journey this season. I had that as a back up Major Action as I was not sure if the foundation would go through.
