Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Bio:
Warning: The following gameplay does not follow historical events 100% of the time, but is in fact inspired by them. Historian's discretion has been advised.

The year is 1592, the time of the Sengoku Jedi has ended on the island of Japan, with many formerly enemy clans that once fought battle after battle on land working together under the new Shogunate. Japan has developed far compared to their rivals, adopting new methods to add into their way of war, and remains to be an uncertain power as comparisons go.

Meanwhile, the Joseon has languished behind their southern neighbor. Facing no war for two centuries, the army has fallen from its times of glory and battle hardened forces ready to defend the people of Korea. Corruption and infighting pettiness dominates the field, a diving board for new members of the nobility to catapult their start to their military careers. Promising incorruptible officers is seen as a problem to this way of life.

The course of two nation's histories changed when the arrival of Japanese fleets began to be well known, with many governors at first insisting they were to be trading fleets, or perhaps apologizing for fleets. Those opinions became different as the invading army extinguished any semblance of resistance, with the Korean court forced to retreat numerous times alongside their army.

In the midst of this, one man rose to the challenge, one demoted and quickly promoted as needed by those jealous of his skills..

One man, by the name of Yi Sun-Shin, the Admiral of the Korean Navy.

The game introduces an ambitious project that allows the player to command and fight against enemy navies with mounting difficulty as the game continues onwards from its starting point.

Features:

Overall Gameplay – The Korean and Japanese Navy starts by choosing their island bases, where their overall HQ is producing the needed ships, supplies, housing, and other facilities that has the island practically act as its own independent region away from the mainlands. However, an important aspect that can make or break a navy is manpower. The Korean Navy has to arrive at Mainland harbors to find refugees to work and live on the island, while the Japanese have to return to their homeland to look for anyone willing to go and live on their island. The destruction of these bases can be catastrophic to the one who loses it, but can reconstruct it in a different (or the same) location as the previous. There is an option for the player to personally intervene in their minor fleets vs the opponent's army and not doing so, only making the main fleet's battles mandatory for the player to command a battle. The battlefield in the game is chosen through the locations the player engaged with the enemy in, with the terrain and other conditions affecting the strategy and tactics employed.

Overall Map – The map of the "World" contains the southern coast and islands of Korea to the northern coast and islands of Japan, with detail and other land and water features that reflect the time period of the real life counterparts.

City Building Gameplay – This exists within the base building and management, with refugees and laborers counting as population that allows the day-to-day management of the facilities, recruitment, and the procurement of supplies like food, wood, stone, iron, etc. There are buildings such as the R&D Building, which is required for the unlocking of the Research tree, the barracks building required for the marines, and the shipyards required for the construction of ships. They (and the other facilities) can be upgraded to quicken their specific functions. Housing buildings. There exists an economic and resource management system that affects the overall gameplay of a player.

Units – There are Ship and Marine units that are specialized to each faction of the game, with an experimental mechanic that allows the player to design their own ships – with a balance system in terms of the values each component and design affects, including resource expenses the more expensive the additions/changes are. If the player does not want to create their own ship design, they are free to use the given basic design unlocked by the research tree. Marine groups can be upgraded in their weaponry, in addition to changes in marine type and their effectiveness mattering through their combat experiences. If a player loses a ship or marine group, it is permanent and cannot return, which means a decrease in the population the player contains.

Campaign Mode – There are two factions to play as in the game: The Korean Navy and the Japanese Navy. The Korean Navy route follows the gameplay of Admiral Yi, starting out with cannons unlocked with a small fleet. The Japanese Navy route contains more ships and marines, but does not have much in the way of navy technology. The main objective for the Korean fleet is to defeat every Japanese fleet in the game, with a morale ticking system that if it is empty would mean the likelihood of a Japanese surrender and thus winning the game. The Japanese main objective is to destroy the remaining Korean Fleets that would result in a victory. However, both sides contain the function that the game becomes harder as time goes on, with terrain mattering that affects the strategy and battle the player would face against their opponents, not to mention special units and other factors.

If Korea wins, the player gets a special battle called "The Battle of Noryang", with the player fighting the Japanese fleet alongside Ming allies. The battle is cut when the player is winning the battlefield, with sequences playing out as the original battle, then as the battle is finished Admiral Yi was found to be dead from a stray Arquebus shot.

If Japan wins, the player gets a special battle called "The Battle of Myeongnyang". The battle is cut when the player is winning the battlefield, with scenes showcasing the defeat of Admiral Yi and the glorious victory Japan has been waiting for..until the arrival of letters that the Shogun of Japan died before even getting the news of his thorn of his side defeated.

Sandbox (Singleplayer) Mode – Sandbox Mode allows the players to play the game without much of a time crunch, however they are enabled to choose or create winning conditions to challenge themselves. It is within this mode that can have the player somehow conduct naval invasions and possibly force the opponent to surrender after defeating their navies and taking over most of the on-map coast.

Multiplayer Mode – The Multiplayer Mode, different from other games of the same genre type, allows the creation of a team of two to collaborate against the opponent's team. Strategies can be formulated however the players want, with one example: One player manages the research and the resource/city management aspect while the other focuses on the navy build-up and combat.

Research Mechanic – There are two research focus trees special to both factions that allows the players and their opponents to modernize their fleets, upgrade their facilities, and others. (as a special, if the players and their opponents managed to last longer than the original war, there exists more expanded research trees with navy and marine technology lasting to the mid 1700s, but there exists research ahead debuffs that doesn't just allow a player to have Man of Wars at the first three years of the game. In addition, there are category tabs that divide the tree in the following: Industrial, Research, Navy, Marines, and Civil Advancement (Construction, City Building Aspects, Policies, etc. is within this category).

And other additional features.

N/A: Here's a navy-based games with aspects incorporated after being inspired by Admiral Yi's island base that he used for the navy, combined with real time to up the stakes..

..This is what happens when one takes inspiration from Red Alert 3, Cities Skylines, and Total War: Shogun 2 after struggling in making the game mechanics for this specific game. (An unlikely combination of game concepts that somehow turned an otherwise dull navy game into one with multiple layers.)

In all honesty, in a few more years when reganomics kicks I to overdrive alot of industry will be shift over to China anyway. The economic incentives would be too good, so I'd expect industrial capital and financial capital to pull strings to get a reopening of sino-american relations

That's not how Reaganomics works. Disregarding that America didn't open to China until the Clinton administration, as Magoose pointed out, China sanctiond a state assassination against one of the most famous people in the world, a beloved filmmaker and humanitarian who did absolutely nothing to China besides spending some time in Hong Kong. Keep in mind that Bruce is also a billionaire, one of the richest men in the world and has likely created tens of thousands of jobs in the American economy and is a dominant force in California. If China was willing to do this to the poster boy of Capitalism when Bruce didn't even make any movies about China, why should Joe Schmo of Wall Street feel safe investing his money into China when looking at egg rolls funny could land him on the CCP's next assassination list?

Not to mention that Carter placed Putin level sanctions on China, banned transit and broke off relations. You think Reagan is gonna overturn that? If the US goes a step further and restarts relations with Taiwan by recognizing them as the Republic of China, then China won't do business with the US on principle. Besides, why invest in China when American corporations can build factories in India, a recently liberalized South Korea, or Vietnam who the US just made a true peace with? Not to mention the inroads with Latin America in the future. This isn't even mentioning that Deng Xiaoping's reforms haven't taken into effect yet and it's still a heavily Marxist state.

Money only jumpstarted relations with China when we had two decades of detente with them, the Cold War was over, End of History was the dominant train of thought where people thought you could liberalize any nation by bringing them into the global economy, and China already had deep relations with most of the West. Here, right when China had their foot in the door, they tried to pull a gun and got the door firmly slammed on them.

Politics aside, here's my plan for the next turn.

[X] Plan Home Sweet Home
-[X]Don't make it: You will put your foot down. Hopefully, he understands. But this is a step too far for you.
--[X] Tell Mike you personally love the film, but you need to run this by George first since Star Wars is his creation and as such it's only right he gets the final say. First chance you get, you'll meet with George to get approval for this movie to be made as well as to verify his stance on others creating Star Wars media.
-[X]The FCC is Coming: so you need to give the FCC more stuff to promise for them, and make sure you don't do something silly like… not pay them and gather a library of shows that will come next year. DC: 0
-[X]And a Day For the Mouse: Roy Disney has called you for a simple business meeting. At Disney land. With the family. Cat even brought her family. He was going to use that card on you.
-[X]A Simple Meeting: Alan is Back, and he's happy at what he is about to tell you. "So see the movie Wonder Woman? You'll enjoy it." DC: ???
-[X]The Kung Fu Kid: Well Brandon, let's see how you do kid. First step in a wider world. DC: 40
-[X]The New Blood: So... Who wants to work for Lucasfilms? DC:???
--[X]Director
--[X]Producer
-[X]Carrie Has a great Idea: Wearing that outfit was going to drive you insane, but than she whispered in your ear and all you can think about is what you want to do tonight. Welp, she wants another gosling, and she'll get it. DC:???
-[X]A Post Movie Day: Debbie is happy you and Carrie are back, and now she is going to give a brief summary of the Kid's shenanigans. DC: 30
-[X]The Family Time: You need a night out with the family dammit! No more drama, no more work, just you and Carrie and the Kids!
-[X]Hanging out with the Friends: It's been far to long since you, John, and Robin hung out, so you will go out for some drinks and have some fun. DC: 45
-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Dean Pitchford. Ron Howard recently brought to your attention a film that's being used as hot potato by Hollywood called Footloose. A story about a big city kid moving to a small town that has banned dancing and his fight against the establishment. Sounds like a fun teen film and Lucasfilms could always do with more musicals.
--[X] Robert Benton. Robert currently has an interesting movie he's directing and written about a family in Great Depression era Texas called Places in the Heart. Lucasfilms is always in need of more movies and this could be a nice add in drama.
-[X] Call your parents: You need to call mom and dad, see how they are doing?

I think it's a sensible stance on Mike. Affirming him we do want the movie, but we don't want to betray George like that so we'll pitch it to him. Shouldn't be more than a month's delay, and I don't see why George would be against it. Maybe we should tag team with Wally so he can push hard for his dad to make more Star Wars, lol.

Deal with the FCC and get more shows. Deal with Disney and Warner Bros stuff. Support Brandon and see how Kung Fu Kid did. Also get a new producer and director to make new movies.

Go home, relax and unwind, spend time with friends and family, make more family with Carrie, lol. Also get a second chance on those movies that Magoose said we could last turn.

This is exactly the plan I was about to post, save for one thing which I hope you'd consider:

--[] Kip Ohman. You've recently heard he's trying to get some financing and distribution for a remake of George Langelaan's 1957 short story, The Fly, and the 1958 film of the same name. Speak with him and see if he would be willing to have this be done under Lucasfilm's banner.

Right now he and new Producer should be trying to find either another producer or someoen to work with for this movie, and we could do one of the classics of 80s horror.

Either way, I'm supporting your plan.

[X] Plan Home Sweet Home

Looks good to me. Though I still hope we can get the distribution rights to Flight of Dragons in a future turn before it releases.

[X] Plan Home Sweet Home

Finally caught up to y'all , and goddamn was it good reading the quest in full, also thanks for all the pitches y'all gave me so many gems to watch

Mikes Reaction:D100 => 89

Mike almost seemed to let go of something on his chest, and say something to you, in fact, you almost thought that he was…

But instead, he just remained silent, as if he decided that instead of saying anything, he was going to be saying nothing.

Reward: Mike seems to be okay. You think.
--------------------------------------------

-[X]The FCC is Coming: so you need to give the FCC more stuff to promise for them, and make sure you don't do something silly like… not pay them and gather a library of shows that will come next year. DC: 0 Rolled:D100 => 77

Well, let's make some more shows and hope the FCC won't just decide to cancel them.

(Continued in: The FCC Are coming once again)
-----------------------------------------------

-[X]And a Day For the Mouse: Roy Disney has called you for a simple business meeting. At Disney land. With the family. Cat even brought her family. He was going to use that card on you. Rolled:D100 => 26

It was crowded here in Disneyland. That much was certain, and Joseph and Sarah were very much not enjoying the large amount of people, being overwhelmed by it. Meanwhile, Mary was trying to go onto the Matterhorn, only to be dismayed when she was far to small to ride it on her own.

But as you waited, Roy Disney was rather patient, watching his own family run around and happily smile as he stood by you. Cat was wrangling her own family, and Carrie was chatting away. "Quite a thing, isn't it? Walts dream." He said as you both watched them continue towards another ride. "Dream for a happy place where the family can be… together."

You sighed. "Yeah. But it isn't only the reason we're here. If it were, I'd be with them, riding more rides, than both of us talking here."

"True, but can't you enjoy it?"

You wanted to, but you were too tired from Star Wars to really do it. "I'll try."

At that, there was a laugh. "I'll be blunt. There are things that we want to do, but can't. Simple things that are impossible to do because I have people trying to tell me what do. What we should do. I envy that about you and George. You're not beholden to that kind of pressure."

"That can lead to it's own problems." You replied. "But I think that we both know that there are things you want to ask."

'When will you release Star Wars." He said.

There it was. "Not for a long time Roy." You replied, as you both stood and saw the families, both of them, waving for you to join them. "I promise that. George wants it to change the world."

There was a chuckle. "Change the world huh." He than smiled. "Yeah, I believe that."

Reward: You and Roy have a small meet, and nothing really happens, besides a few things.
------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]A Simple Meeting: Alan is Back, and he's happy at what he is about to tell you. "So see the movie Wonder Woman? You'll enjoy it." DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 34

You and Alan both just looked at each other, and it was not funny any more. Alan the Gambler was at work, and all he wanted to do was proclaim victory, for his ally was going to be in awe.

But you were not impressed.

"I mean, I don't care, as much as I enjoy your success Alan, I just want to spend some time with my family, and I am here for the courtesy to let you know it."

Alan was not upset. "You know what I'm going to ask then?"

"Another Batman film?"

"Better." He said. "Justice Leauge. Once everyone gets their film, we bring them together, and who better than the greatest action director."

You almost just left. "Alan, I've got nothing against that plan, but I'm exhausted from the last few weeks, I just need time to decompress. And not feel like hell."

"Just letting you know what I am planning."

"And if I don't want to?" you asked.

"I'll find someone who can." He said.

Reward: Alan told you some of his plans.
--------------------------------------------

-[X]The Kung Fu Kid: Well Brandon, let's see how you do kid. First step in a wider world. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 94+20=114

Damn. You thought that everything was going to be… good.

You did not expect Brandon to become a Superstar overnight.

(Continued in The Kung Fu Kid)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The New Blood: So... Who wants to work for Lucasfilms? DC:???
--[X]Director Rolled:D100 => 23

Much as you wanted to hire someone, you had to put them away, because all of them wanted what you could only describe as…

50 million dollar movies for their crazy ideas, the full resources of ILM, and of course, you to star in the movie.

They were asking far too much for things that were too little a reward. You were also not going to be going to anywhere for a few months, not until you and Carrie had quality time together.

Failure.
--------

--[X]Producer Rolled:D100 =>13

But the same could not be said for the producers either.

Seems everyone wanted to work on a Star Wars movie, and since George didn't have any thing to say, and you didn't know what he wanted… you just…

Shooed them off.

George will make up his mind.

Hopefully.

Failure.
----------------------------------------------

-[X]Carrie Has a great Idea: Wearing that outfit was going to drive you insane, but than she whispered in your ear and all you can think about is what you want to do tonight. Welp, she wants another gosling, and she'll get it. DC:??? Rolled:D100 + 40 => 140

You honestly didn't know just what had gotten into Carrie.

But you were not complaining.

(Continued in: Carrie has a Great idea)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]A Post Movie Day: Debbie is happy you and Carrie are back, and now she is going to give a brief summary of the Kid's shenanigans. DC: 30 Rolled: D100 => 68

As you prepared to listen, you could only think about several things, and the fear that you were going to once again, miss several key moments in your children's lives.

Except as Debbie reports, it was not the case. "Besides some drawings that Mary drew and sent to ILM, and Wally Calling daily to talk to Mary, there was really nothing to report. Sarah and Joseph were simply… well being rowdy and rambunctious, but not really doing anything crazy."

You sighed and you nodded. "Thank you Debbie."

"Oh don't go thinking about thanking me, those kids are darlings to me." She smiled.

Wait what? They raised hell when they were around you.

Reward: thankfully, nothing insane happened while you were gone. Though they were, little angels to him.
-------------------------------------

-[X]The Family Time: You need a night out with the family dammit! No more drama, no more work, just you and Carrie and the Kids! Rolled:D100 => 33

It was honestly just a good thing that you decided to have a simple family dinner after everything that happened, and the filming.

Because honestly, it was perfect.

Carrie was happy to be back home and with the kids, eyeing you like the hunk of meat you were to her.

And Mary was excited and babbling about how she made another robot with you think it was Shinji… or was it Shoji, she wasn't good at speaking Japanese yet.

And Joseph continued to be a fish by swimming, though at the dinner table, he was just making faces and bubble sound for Sarah.

Poor Sarah was just reading some comics and Sunday morning newspaper strips that she was collecting.

But above all… everyone was together.

And that was enough.

Reward: You and the family have a wonderful time.
-------------------------------------------------

-[X]Hanging out with the Friends: It's been far to long since you, John, and Robin hung out, so you will go out for some drinks and have some fun. DC: 45 Rolled:D100 => 73

John and Robin were both smiling as you sat down in Robins's apartment. "You know, I'm starting to get jealous."

"Of what my friend?" You asked as you sat down at the table.

Robin then said. "The fact you two fuck like rabbits and are in a relationship most people would kill for."

You frowned. "Robin."

"It's true." He said.

John for his part was very… quiet, for a moment at least, drinking. "Yeah, but hey, it could be worse. Someone else could have fucked it all up."

"What does that mean?" You asked.

"I mean, if you or Carrie were unlucky in love and god forbid that you never married, I think both of you would be unhappy and not in the position that you are in now."

"And what does that have to do with anything?" You asked.

"We're jealous of it." John finally said.

"You guys will get your chance at love, and family, just have to find the right person." You said.

"Easy for you to say, you found the right one." Robin said.

"Well it will come, I think, you two both got that chance."

Reward: You and John and Robin talk.
-------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Dean Pitchford. Ron Howard recently brought to your attention a film that's being used as hot potato by Hollywood called Footloose. Both men seemed to be in agreement and they have practically…

Lept at the chance to make such movies.

Reward: Both movies will be made under the Lucasfilm Banner.
--------------------------------------

-[X] Call your parents: You need to call mom and dad, see how they are doing? Rolled:D100 => 1

Mom and Dad didn't answer, though the receiver just went to a recorder.

Well, anywho.

You are sure they are fine.

Failure?: They didn't answer. Though you are sure they are alright.
