Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

[X] Plan Batman and Superman

I like it.This matches my priorities at present.

Kathleen and Alan Deserve us keeping our word. Tomino needs help, Brandon needs help and Carrie deserves her victory lap.

More selfishly I really want to see Batman and Superman together.

Movie Pitch: Constantine
I have always been a stickler for the idea that if an adaptation of a previous work must be made, then the source material must be read and respected, so that if the overall external parts must be changed, then at the very least the core of said work must remain, the ideas and the themes that comprised it have to be respected and carefully used to bring about a good story. That has been the main reason why I loved Jackson's Lord of the Rings adaptation, Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger, and more recently James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. It's also the main reason why I pushed to have the Conan movie be more faithful to the novels, to the point of rewriting the script until Kaiser Chris came with a good compromise that allowed us to have our cake and eat it too.

So, it may come as a surprise to know that I absolutely loved the 2005 movie Constantine, a supposed adaptation of the Hellblazer comic, which even got the pronunciation of the hero's name wrong. From what I've seen of the comics (which is not much, I have to say they're not my cup of tea) both the tone, themes, characters and setting are off. The characters make decisions and move in ways that are opposed to what they usually do in comic, and some characters don't even appear.

And yet I love the movie. From beginning to end I've loved this adaptation that just takes what it wants from the comic and then makes up the rest. I've waited for a sequel to it for years, and will defend it as an amazing piece of cinema that if not amongst the most artistic, then its among its most entertaining. A good popcorn flick that you can just watch and have fun with friends.

As such, I give you:

Movie Pitch:
Constantine

GENRE: Horror/Action/Fantasy

SUBGENRE: Thriller/Supernatural

FORMAT: Movie

Set Up: An American Supernatural horror film. The film follows John Constantine, a cynical, experienced exorcist with the ability to perceive and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true forms and to travel between Earth and Hell. He's hired by Detective Angela Dodson, who's been plagued by visions of his dead twin sister languishing in Hell, and soon delves into a deep conspiracy between the highest echelons of Heaven and Hell to bring about the end of times via the Anti-Christ.

Director: John McTiernan
Composer: Alan Silvestri

John Constantine: He's a chain-smoking cynic with the ability to perceive the true visage of half-angels and half-demons on the human plane. John is damned to Hell for attempting suicide — a mortal sin — when he was 15 trying to stop the horrifying visions he received. He's dealt with all manner of spiritual and mystical issues, mostly from the Abrahamic faiths, and has terminal lung cancer.

Played By: Christopher Walken
Alternate: Jeremy Irons

Chas Kramer: He's Constantine's driver and apprentice. Chas has a strong interest in the occult and helps Constantine whenever possible in order to gain knowledge and experience from him. Though sometimes annoying, Constantine is protective of the kid, and tries to get him away from the Occult because of it. Chas dies near the end by a hidden force who was aiding Balthazar.

Played By: Eric Roberts
Alternate: Keith Gordon

Angela Dodson: She's a troubled LAPD detective investigating the suicide of her twin sister Isabel who, like Constantine, did so in order to escape the visions and is now in Hell. Angela also possessed the same powers, but suppressed them, and is now being targeted by Balthazar to have her be the mother of Mammon, the son of Lucifer, who wants to use her as a means of escaping to rule over Earth.

Played By: Debra Winger
Alternate: Caroline Goodall

Balthazar: He's a "half-breed" demon, and son of Lucifer, who has a special interest in, and personal history with, Constantine. He begins his plans by killing Constantine's associates, pushing more into discovering, and re-awakening, Angela's powers, thus making her a more suitable vessel for the birth of Mammon into the world. He uses the Lance of Longinus found at the beginning of the movie for it.

Played By: Rutger Hauer
Alternate: Frank Langella

Gabriel: A "half-breed" Archangel with a disdain for humanity. Gabriel cannot understand God's love for humanity, and thus resolves to work alongside Balthazar to free Mammon as a means to unleash Hell on the Earth in order to make humans "Worthy" of God's love. Gabriel breaks the covenant in doing so however, eventually losing the protection and powers granted by it, and turning mortal in the process.

Played By: Crispin Glover
Alternate: Natassja Kinski
Papa Midnite: He is a former witch-doctor who once fought against Hell. After swearing an oath of neutrality - unless one side should tip the balance of power - he opened a nightclub to serve as neutral meeting ground for both sides of the war between Heaven and Hell. A former ally of Constantine, he helps in finding Angela when she is kidnapped by (the unknown at the moment) Gabriel.

Played By: Howard Rollins Jr.
Alternate: Yaphet Kotto

Father Hennessy: He's an insomniac, alcoholic priest with the ability to communicate with the dead. He wears a protective charm in order to "keep the voices out" when not working, and helps Constantine in his cases. He finds evidence of what's going on in a symbol on Isabel's body, but is killed by Balthazar before he can tell Constantine. He still manages to leave a message with a hint to it.

Played By: Richard S. Castellano
Alternate: Bill Mumy

Beeman: He's a friend of Constantine's with a liking for exotic materials and insects. He serves as both a supplier of holy objects and relayer of information to Constantine. Beeman, before being killed, tells both Constantine and Angela that the symbol Hennessy found is that of the antichrist Mammon, there's a prophecy of him usurping his father and conquering the Earth, using a powerful psychic and divine assistance.

Played By: David Warner
Alternate: Rick Moranis

Lucifer: He is a fallen angel who is in a proxy war with God for the souls of all mankind. Lucifer loathes Constantine with such vigor that Constantine's is the only soul which he would ever come to personally collect, due to Constantine's many fights against demons. He makes an appearance in order to stop Mammon and avoid being overthrown.

Played By: David Bowie
Alternate: Klaus Kinski
Isabel: Angela's sister. She was held in a psychiatric hospital due to her visions, and killed herself when she saw that she would aid in birthing Mammon.

Father Garret: He's a priest Angela talks to about getting Isabel a Catholic burial.

Detective Weiss: He's Angela's partner. He dies when demons attack them after visiting Constantine.

Manuel: A scavenger and treasure hunter who finds the Spear of Destiny in the ruins of a church in Mexico that grants various powers and places him in a trance-like state in which he travels to Los Angeles.

Dr. Archer: He's Constantine's doctor, and the one who's regularly consulted about his cancer.

A.N.: So, I figure we can make this around the middle of the 80s, perhaps earlier if everything goes right with Dune and The Hobbit. Frankly, I want to try and make this into a Franchise, though I'm not exactly sure where to take it from here. Then again, we could just leave it to the writers for them to try and make something new, or at least make a prompt that would have Constantine face against new and interesting demons in the future, perhaps even bringing Gabriel as a regular character in future installments if we follow that route later.

A good popcorn flick that you can just watch and have fun with friends.

As such, I give you:
In my case, despite being a Vertigo fan I hadn't started yet reading Hellblazer before watching the movie (blame the fact it is the longest running Vertigo Series and I was feeling kind of lazy)... So I watched the movie and I liked it very much... But then a few months later I decided to read the Garth Ennis Arc of the Comics (which the part the movie took inspiration) and from then on I absolutely despise the movie...

They took the most iconic arc of Hellblazer and they gutted it, took a shit on it, and peed over its remains, they transformed THE MAGIC CON MAN of DC and turned ir in "stoic action hero n°2456", they completely ignored one of the most awesome and badass moments of triumph in comic book history (in which which he forced a Mexican Stand off between the three Kings of hell which not only forced him to cure him but also protect him from any harm...), they didn't include the total humiliation of the snob, and so many other wasted things...

So I kind of feel the opposite from you, the "World War Z" kind of adaptation in which the only thing they maintain are a few names to get brand recognition is probably one of my most despised kinds of media ever (the only exception being Blade Runner), and Constantine false flat on that definition...

So if you want us to make the movie, cool just slap a different name on it and it works as it's own thing... It is so far away from the comic book source that it is totally unrecognisable anyway (besides the names), and since Constantine will join the DC character rooster in the early 80s, so Columbia won't let us do the adaptation anyways...

Because I really, honestly do not know what to give this as a reward.

Tales as Old as Time Turn 62 Results (October-November 1978)
-[X]A Funny Moment: So Christopher Reeves showed up in full Superman Regalia... you are going to have some fun with this. DC: 45 Rolled:D100 => 65-10=55

You were filming a few scenes of Clint and Faya, a simple conversation scene, a time where you were just good, feeling a wonderful sense of chemistry between them. It was also some time before, at least in your mind, you were going to film the introduction of you and Gordon's meeting.

It was going to be a fun way to get your hands into the thing, as well as finding so much so, that you honestly didn't notice Christopher Reeves appear on set.

And honestly, it took both Clint and Faya stopping to gawk and you calling cut to find out what actually happened. And considering the sight of you being in costume, and Chris also being in costume, you were honestly… shocked.

"Um, Chris?" You said his name quietly as he gave a warm smile. "Please god tell me Robin didn't set you up for this?"

There was a laugh. "Oh, he did. But that's not exactly why I am here." He replied as he turned to several photographers, and you could see the letters DC, and several other newspaper and news stations…

Oh no. "They are-"

"Seems Alan wants to have us to be ready for interviews." He replied.

Oh no nononono! "That bastard, he knows the media hates me, and I hate them!" You swore under your breath.

"Well, we're going to have to get used to it."

"I'm in the middle of working. And I don't want to do any kind of interview!" You said before you had an idea. "Can you help me avoid the media by something for me?"

Chris gave a nod. "Of course."

You then ran over to the set designer and prop master. "We're doing it off the cut! Going off script, I need the whole roof set ready in five." You looked at the time. It was almost sunset… Good. maybe you could use that to make it better.
------------------

You looked at Chris and put the cowl over your head. "Thanks, I owe you one."

He smiled. "Well I've never done something like this. So I'm for it."

"Great, because I'm only doing this to avoid the reporters downstairs." You said as you looked at the shot one last time. "You like what I wrote?"

Chris smiled. "Yes."

"Great, because I couldn't call Carrie to write something up." You smiled as you looked through the camera.

"How many takes do you think we'll need?" Chris asked.

"If we're lucky?" You replied looking at the sunset. "Just one."

Reward: You filmed a post-credit…or is it a pre post-credit scene? where you as batman, meet Superman, and talk for a minute. Mostly to get out of interviews and people who were trying to stop your shoot.
--------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Man who would be Alfred: He looked at you with a raised eyebrow, and then gave a frown. "Well, It seems that the acting of Americans has devolved since I last worked on production if you are the star of the show?" DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 60+20=80

You were reading the script before Alec just muttered. "Preposterous." He stated as he looked at the script. "Whoever wrote this script is atrocious and does not understand the complex relationship between a butler and his master?"

You frowned. "Well It's not just a relationship of that kind Alec, it's a surrogate father and his son." He replied.

"That was not what I am bringing this attention." He showed several lines that were crossed out and underlined. "We need to change it so that his fear is far more palpable, make him feel like he is crossing a line that he cannot come back, but soldier on because he needs to for his ward."

Alec then continued for almost twenty minutes. Before he realized you were writing on your script. "Wait, you were listening?"

"Why wouldn't I?" You asked.

He looked at you almost shocked. "I just thought that the acting of Americans has devolved since I last worked on production if you are the star of the show?"

You frowned. "Well get used to disappointment." You replied. "Cause I like to prove everyone wrong."

Reward: You impress Alex Guinness by listening to him, and doing more to make it more… well not accurate, but more in line with old English style butler that he knows of.

You think you have no idea about that. But it does look good on Celluloid.

+30 to his Chemistry and SP.
--------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Meeting Jodie: You and Jodie saw each other briefly when she was in Lucasfilms for recording, but really you saw nothing more of her. Try and change that might be a good idea. DC: 30 Rolled:D100 => 31+20=51

You almost missed her, and it was quite interesting that you were able to see her, because most of the scenes, were here with Clint, and Faya, and with only one exception, over the phone or radio, she didn't really interact with you.

But as director, you were honestly quite happy to finally get to see her. Though it was a bit awkward.

"Hey Jodie, can we talk for a sec?" You asked as you felt a strain on your back, and sat down as she ran over.

"Oh hey Bruce, what's up." She asked as she saw you sit down. "You okay?"

"Oh yeah, I'm…" You stretched and nearly fell over. "Oh, one of the guys punched me a little too hard on the back and now it hurts."

"Want me to get the medic?" she asked.

"Nah, I'll just stretch and work behind the camera for today." You then paused. "So, how do you like it?"

"The work, or working with you? You know Mark told me that you were always… well a bit of an enigma, but he said you were fun to work with most of the time when you were not under a lot of stress."

Yeah, it seems the Rumors of Conan had spread. "Well I'm not under stress, I'm going home most nights to my wife and daughter, and I am enjoying well… the work. It's not every day you play your favorite character twice."

There was a moment where Jodie laughed. "Wait, you like Batman?"

You shrugged. "I like Conan more, but I have read a few comics of the Caped Crusader."

"Nerd." She said.

"Coming from the girl that took this job to, and I quote 'Branch out?'"

Jodie frowned. "No fair."

"Oh come on, you are always looking for more rolls to get you away from the Child Star thing, and I get it. It's why I lied about my age for the first productions I was in."

That made Jodie look incredulous. "You wait, what?"

"It was pretty easy to do 'cause I looked a lot older than what people first saw of me." You then remembered Brooks. "Making friends also helped."

You both just kept talking, and honestly, it was fun. Though hearing about Jodie having trouble with trying to get work was a bit hard to hear. You were lucky that you got the chance to work so much. She was not.

But you both were enjoying the time spent on set, and she was happy to be breaking a few molds and branching out.

Reward: Jodie is having a good time, and also hears about some of your misadventures before fame and fortune.

+30 to SP and Chemistry.

Honestly, it took only a month, and numerous changes to the script. But that didn't matter.

You managed to get everything you wanted. And even Alan was impressed by how you did it.

Reward: Unknown Positive effect, not only on the film's quality. But on the Entire Batman Canon.

Also, +50 to all Production rolls.

-[X]Faya's Fareway: She was not happy about any of this, but mostly it was because she saw you and Clint and really thought something. Yet finally she said it. DC: 20 Rolled:D100 => 6+20=26

But it seems your charms, and directing ability… was enough to send Faya to fury and anger.

Before you basically sat down to talk to her.

"You really put me up with him?" She pointed to Clint. "He's a pig, a-"

"A damn fine actor." You replied. "Don't give much stock to the rumors around him... most of the time. Right now, just consider him an aloof coworker."

"He's not being that way." She replied.

You looked to Clint, who had heard that part. Then he realized you were going to have words with him. "I'll talk to him."

You did, and she felt better after that, and the next scenes were perfect.

Reward: Faya is now back to 100%

+30 to her SP and Chemistry.

-[X]So How many people are coming in now?: Ever since Gundam was released, Tomino has been… swamped. No not by anything bad… but from the literal thousands of animators that want to try to join… He needs help. DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 18

You were going to help Tomino… Then… you learned he had been called, by sunrise, to talk about Gundam.

And it was not good.

Failure: Uh oh… Tomino, you are not in trouble with Dreamworks… but… Sunrise is… angry? What, all of Sunrise animation were trying to flee to America to work for Tomino?
--------------------------------------------

-[X]Carrie Look at the… Holy Shit?:So Carrie's business partners just came to talk to her. Thankfully, it was… good. Jesus Christ that is a lot of money. DC: 0 Rolled:D100 => 49+40=89 (Autopass)

Company usage:D1000 => 514

You and Carrie both looked at each other… and then at the check. "So… how many companies are using my patents?" Carrie asked.

The agent looked at a note. "Domestic or foreign?"

"Yes." Carrie said dumbfounded.

"514."

Carrie thankfully remained conscious, but she clearly lost all her functions as her mind raced. "Have a nice day," the man replied. "We will continue to bring your checks to the account listed on Miss O'Brian's account."

You then looked at the check and realized the absurdity of the number she had made in the last month.

100,000,000

Reward: Carrie will be a billionaire by 1980 due to her patents. She will be making tens of millions of dollars every month for the rest of her life.

Um… New Action available.
---------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]You Feel so Soft: Mary squeezed your arm, as she snuggled you. "I love you." She said. "I know" Rolled: D100 => 62

You were going to enjoy holding her, but you were just too happy to do anything more than to hold her in your arms. "I love you daddy." She said as she began to slowly fall asleep in your arms.

You gently rocked her to sleep. It was times like this that truly made everything worth it. You loved every second of just being able to be alone.

As you laid her down and tucked her in, you caught Carrie taking a picture. "Need this for the Christmas card." She whispered as she took the Polaroid out and shocked it, letting it develop. And it was there, you and Mary, looking at each other captured forever in time.
------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]A Quiet Moment: You look at Carrie before she finally lays down next to you. "You wanna know something?" DC: 0 Rolled:D100 => 140

Carrie's Realization:D3 => 2

Carrie laid down next to you as you both got ready for bet, your hand twirling her hair as she looked at you. "What are we going to do?" She asked. "We just… we're making more money than we can do in a lifetime, Bruce. And I'm just scared that… it will change us."

"Why would you think that?" you asked.

"I don't know, all the stories around Hollywood of the rich and famous. The fact we have so much that we can't possibly comprehend how much we actually have?" Carrie then just… stopped. "I don't even need to work anymore…" She then chuckled.

You and Carrie both looked at each other, deeply trying to read each other before she sighed. "You wanna know something, Bruce." She then leaned into you, embracing you as you felt her heartbeat match your own. "I enjoy this."

"Enjoy what?" You asked.

Carrie smiled. "I enjoy being a mother. I just find myself content being able to not worry about anything other than Mary and you and my mom and my friends. I do normal things that everyone deals with every day, with only the assurances that I can make mistakes… and I'll be able to learn from them by continuing to be the best person I am…" She looked up. "The best person you helped me become."

"What about acting, writing, and everything else? You'd rather be a stay-at-home mom than do any of that?"

Carrie just smiled. "After everything that has happened in my life, what would make you think I would want to be anything else? I've done everything I ever wanted to achieve as a writer and an actress in my first film." Her eyes glanced over to her Oscars, proudly displayed in the room, next to your own. "I don't have that same love you have for it. Not anymore… something else took its place."

You then laughed. "I hope you are not abandoning me on my Star Wars directorial debut?"

"With you, I'll do everything." She said before she kissed you. "Till death do us part."

You both enjoyed the kiss for a very long time. As she pulled back to breathe, you whispered. "I love you."

"I know."

Reward: Carrie, has decided that she would be focusing a lot more of her energies on being a mother, no longer writing or acting in any movies that do not star or direct you, Debbie, or being asked by George, Sly, or on occasion, Mike.

Carrie may want to start having more children soon, but that will depend on if you are ready for that.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Brandon needs some… stuff: You look at Brandon and realize that cooping him up in your mansion was not going to be a good idea. DC: 45 Rolled:D100 => 60

You honestly didn't think Brandon would be that stupid.

But thank god you were there.

(Continued in: Brandon and Bruce…)

AN: Whoever sacrificed to the Dice gods.

Fuck you! The Magoose dice are not toys for you to play around with, they are very dangerous!:V
