Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Well, that was fucking amazing!!!

Meanwhile at Universal:

"We got fucked. By some two-bit hacks that don't have any talent!"

"The lines don't lie. And they have everything all under their purview. We are the ones who are screwed."

"People want space movies, well we'll give them a space movie!"

(They still don't get it. They just don't.)
The only bad thing about this whole new scenario is that it is extremely likely that we are going to see a string of bad adaptations of some of the greatest Sci-Fi novels of all time done by Universal... And Bradbury, Clarke, and Asimov deserved better...

Well, Asimov's stories are not that heavy on Space battles (at least the ones I've read) so they should be fine for now. We do now that there was a reboot of Buck Rogers on TV, and a Flash Gordon movie (Which perhaps we could convince to work with us). But at least we managed to save Dune. That's something, right?

True, true... But I dread what Universal will do if they get their hands in stuff like "The Forever War" or "Starship Troopers" especially with the mallus they are getting from adapting books...

We need to buy some businesses. Maybe something in the services line (a hotel chain perhaps?) or tech industry (film development, automotive or whatever). Either way, we need a way to keep some of that floating cash reserve into use beyond being a massive dangling tax bait.
wait is the US taxing networth??? and not the income made the past year? I am confused.
Yeah Bruce might need to open up his pocketbook because Universal ain't fucking around
I highly doubt they have an eye for what's worth picking up the same way we do tbh

Wait a moment...doesn't that mean that OTL Starship Troopers will never get made because of said Malus?! I loved that movie!

Wait, what about Die Hard?! It was a loosely based adaptation of a book as well!

I don't know how but this thread awakend a core memory that made me look up some old movies i saw on disney or jetix such as bratty babies(known as oh babby) and ice angel. If you gents can help me rember the titles of two more novies i would appreciate it.

Is it wrong that I'm smiling at the potential bullshit that is to come.

Yes yes I am.

Also let's see how Stanley is doing?

Stanley Kubrick and his quest for filmic perfection:D100 => 93

Son of a bitch! How did he manage to get that!

Well turns out the man is really being insane and trying to make the most accurate film ever.

And expensive.

And mad bat shit insane.

He got who to play Napoleon?

Something critical about Star Wars' success is how much this is gonna financially ruin a lot of our competition. I can easily see for the first month at the bare minimum that almost all movie theaters are going to kick out the other movies and just fill all their theaters with Star Wars to keep up with the high demand. We know at least that the movies Universal selected to go against Star Wars bombed, and considering it's the greatest movie ever made and tons of people are gonna go on repeat watches, that trend is gonna continue.

Of our biggest competitors, UA and MGM are going to go bankrupt in at least a decade and with the strike they are likely on the financial brink. Columbia got a temporary boost thanks to the cash inflow from Carrie but that can only last so long and with their latest films likely to be bombs just from existing in the same space as Star Wars, they're gonna be on the verge of bankruptcy with the rest of their 70's films being made by people who joined Lucasfilms and forgettable mehs. Fox doesn't have their OTL cash cow Star Wars and while they haven't had any bombs til now, they haven't had any grand successes and are likely set on the verge of bankruptcy by the end of the decade. So overall that's four major players of the Hollywood Establishment destined for death unless they get divine intervention of angel investors or miracle blockbusters.

Paramount has a decent cash reserve thanks to Godfather and they were responsible for a good number of the decade's greatest hits. Problem is they don't have Mike Eisner like they did OTL so their leadership is gonna be stagnant and all of the town's best artists want to work for Universal or Lucasfilms. So Paramount can be a "Success" but is gonna be the definition of reliably decent with nothing wondrous or failures.

Disney's gonna pull through this thanks to park sales and merchandising. Dark Ages are still gonna come but at least they're not bankrupt and still owned by the Disney family. For now it just depends on how successful Carpenter's films are and which vision wins the leadership race. Universal is apparently set for great things with Napoleon and have the biggest bank to go do crazy stupid spending, not to mention they got NBC so a lot of their successful shows may be set for adaptation into movies.

As for what Universal's gonna target, I'm almost certain it's gonna be Star Trek. It was the biggest science fiction franchise until Star Wars, provides a nice opposite in themes on space exploration along with a setting that is the future milky way instead of a galaxy far, far away; and it's discovery and science versus war and magic. Sidney probably has Gene in the room with promises of blank checks for the Star Trek movies and funding for Phase II as a NBC show.

@Magoose Has ILM done SFX work for any films outside of Lucasfilms? While OTL Lucasfilms was aligned with Fox, ILM did tons of contract work for most major blockbusters in the US to the point that until the 2010s if you wanted a really beautiful movie you'd need ILM and THX. If George is willing to let ILM contract out, that could be a huge money maker as I imagine any high concept movie wants the same Magicians who make Star Wars, though at the same time it'd be helping the competition and I imagine that Universal doesn't want to pay us a penny.

Is Stanley actually going to attempt to create authentic reenactments of Napoleonic battles with tens of thousands of extras? Also any hints of Universal's other ambitions in film? It's almost certain that they'll make a Jaws 2 as a reliable cashcow. There's Buck Rogers which unfortunately is going to be in their hands unless George gets the rights. Also there's More American Graffiti, but considering the war with Lucasfilms Universal probably doesn't want to make it out of fear of giving George more soft power as a filmmaker even if he's never involved, plus they can't get Bruce.

Get Out Your Pic-a-Nic Basket Boo-Boo!:

Feeling very nostalgic that night, watching Carrie rest in bed after a very long day, Bruce couldn't help but crack open a photo album and look back at days long past. Each picture was a memory a thousand words could't hold, a memory in caught in a ten thousand more and relived for but moments. Today, he couldn't help but look back on August, before the bad times. Before the excuse of a father. Of that day on the hills.

One sunny morning, Bruce suggested that they go horseback riding in the Lone Pine hills. Carrie was a bit hesitant at first, but she agreed, eager to spend more time with her husband.

As they rode through the hills, something clicked and left Bruce and Carrie acting like two love-struck teenagers, holding hands and whispering sweet nothings to each other as they went to grab Friday from his stables. They laughed and joked, enjoying each other's company as they rode out towards the hills, even as their excitement grew. They had always loved spending time outdoors, and they relished the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Lone Pine hills together.

Once they arrived at the hills, they set off on their rides, Friday and a rental, Buell. As they rode, Bruce and Carrie held hands, enjoying the warmth of the sun on their skin and the gentle breeze in their hair. As they climbed higher into the hills, the scenery became more and more breathtaking. They rode through wildflower meadows, past sparkling streams, and up steep hillsides, taking in the stunning views at every turn.

At one point, they came across a group of deer grazing in a clearing. Bruce and Carrie stopped their horses to watch the gentle creatures, marveling at their beauty and grace. Throughout the ride, Bruce and Carrie were inseparable, constantly whispering sweet nothings to each other and sharing tender kisses. They were like two lovebirds anew, lost in their own little world of romance and passion.

When they arrived at the babbling brook, Bruce surprised Carrie with a picnic basket full of delicious treats. They sat by the stream, enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature and each other's company.

They stopped by a babbling brook and dismounted, taking a break to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Bruce took out a picnic basket and spread out a blanket, surprising Carrie with a romantic lunch complete with wine and cheese. They sat by the stream, gazing into each other's eyes, lost in their own little world. They talked about their hopes and dreams for the future, and they made plans for their next adventure together.

As the day began to draw to a close, Bruce and Carrie mounted their horses and began to make their way back down the hills. They rode side by side, their hearts full of love and contentment. As they arrived back at the stables, Bruce helped Carrie down from her horse and gave her a tender kiss on the lips. They smiled at each other, knowing that they had shared a truly special day together.

"Thank you," she whispered later, while they lay under the starry sky [near the hotel], "Thank you for sharing today and every day with me."

"It's what I signed up to do, isn't it?" he whispered back, gently brushing her hair back, "Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night, all I can see paradise by the dashboard light, swearing to God and on my grave, that I would love you to the end of time, I swore I would love you to the end of time!"

Her laugh twinkled throughout the night, "You ass!" she'd guffawed, playfully swatting at his shoulder.

"Let's do this again soon, okay?" her next words slipped past memory and onto his own lips, as a solitary tear fell down onto the album.

Some of you may have notice I am no longer liking or commenting on every post. To many of that now.

Expect deviousness to take its place

Well lets just say that our events here will not entierly fuck us... Or all our competition because as it turns out, there are other talented people in hollywood willing to get what is coming to them.

Also, I'm not going to kill more then one studio per decade, come on be realistic.

Not until at least the 90's where I become Bill The Butcher in gangs of new york, and start fucking things up royally for everyone and anyone.
As for what Universal's gonna target, I'm almost certain it's gonna be Star Trek. To say nothing of the fact that Sid has decided to do three things that no sane CEO would do.

1. Pay a huge amount to the right people to keep the damn scripts going, no matter the cost.
2. Pay shit loads to established actors.
3. Be an asshole willing to Gaslight people into working for him.

Sure number 3 hasn't worked out to well for him, but by god is it working for other people?
@Magoose Has ILM done SFX work for any films outside of Lucasfilms?
Actually, they will be starting next year. They have a lot of free time now that Star Wars is done, though they know that once George gets a gooing on the next film they will learn that all hands are on deck.

So expect even Universal to start paying for the best in the industry.

Until they can try to form their own with the people who leave, which almost all won't considering most of them get six figures a year.
Is Stanley actually going to attempt to create authentic reenactments of Napoleonic battles with tens of thousands of extras?
Yes. In fact, the French and Italian, and Soviet Armies have entire regiments reconstituted and trained entirely for the films.

Stanley no joke, has one of the largest field armies in Europe right now with over 50,000 men, for his battle scenes. And he made over 20 warships for naval battle scenes.

And when I say attempt, he already recreated the battle of Toulon, Nappy B's first victory.

And he fucking made it epic.
Also any hints of Universal's other ambitions in film?
For one thing: Looting Warners corpse.
It's almost certain that they'll make a Jaws 2 as a reliable cashcow.
Not likely, with Steve gone, and everyone afraid he will do some bad press.
There's Buck Rogers which unfortunately is going to be in their hands unless George gets the rights.
Not likely, not without someone who can be Buck.
Also there's More American Graffiti, but considering the war with Lucasfilms Universal probably doesn't want to make it out of fear of giving George more soft power as a filmmaker even if he's never involved, plus they can't get Bruce.
If they tried to make a film, they
Charles Marie Jérôme Victor Bonaparte? Great-great-grandnephew and legitimate heir of Napoleon I and head of the Imperial House of France?:V
... I mean, he looks close enough to the man himself. I mean, I haven't rolled for it Stanley repealed the Law of Exiles to get that done... but you know what, I will do that next year.
So hes regular self then?
PRetty much.
You say that as if it's a bad thing.
I mean, until the trust-busting begins. But since it hasn't happened to Disney yet, I doubt it will happen.

[]I am a Cowboy (Carrie now knows how to ride a horse properly)
[]I Love you (Uknown Effect)
[]I Am Whole With You (Carrie begins to feel better due to Bruce's Unwavering support)
Quick question @Magoose, do (some of) Bruce and Carrie's duets sound kinda like this?
No. Bruce is a little less bassy.

Well, as much as it'd be cool for her to know horseback riding right back off the bat, that can be saved for when she starts feeling better.

[X] I Am Whole With You (Carrie begins to feel better due to Bruce's Unwavering Support)
No. Bruce is a little less bassy.
Can Bruce train to get that bass, or that out of our wheelhouse until he's an old man?
