People have mentioned here and in the RP that bad things happen if Kakara learns about the time patrol. However, I can't find what these bad things are or way Kakara specificly can't learn about them.

Well, we're an incredibly important figure in an incredibly important moment in our lives with the conspiracy and everything else going on. Any interaction could fuck up the timeline. In the grand scheme of things, people like our dad and grandma have already lived their lives and are set enough in their ways, whereas as a child we have room to grow and interaction could potentially change our resulting personality drastically.

Hey @PoptartProdigy , how close are we to Exceptional Multiform? We've had to drop the action twice (and broke my heart in the process) but it occurs to me that you previously mentioned we were very close to Exceptional anyway (enough that a Research Perfect Multiform action was basically guaranteed to get it to Exceptional.) We've been making heavy use of Multiform for the past 2 years - not to mention the critical role it played in our response to the attempted assassination of the scouts. Is there any chance we'll hit Exceptional this year, even without a dedicated action?

Not this year. Leveling through simple use is drastically slower than leveling through training. You shouldn't rely on it.

The quest bad ends.

People said they wanted no crossover to any serious extent. I took that very seriously.
More specifically, I believe that Kakara-Prime (aka "us") consciously learning of the time Patrol means instant attention, and possibly instant arrival, of The Enemy. Which is Bad End.

Writing the update.

Unrelated (yeah, definitely): if your cursor is not in the main text box -- if, for instance, it's in the Threadmark Label field -- the enter key is not your friend. I had no text in the main text box, so I was saved the necessity of deleting a premature update post thanks to an invalid post error, but aathemomentofpanic.

Those Wacky Kids
[X] Enthusiastically congratulate him on a good match and a cool trick and help him to his feet. Everybody look at the cheerful bubbly Scion. No need to think about what that trick was. Yes. You will lead him out of sight and ask what the fuck that was in private. This is not the place. If any people haven't realized the implications of this yet, you're not helping them do it
-[X] Telepath dad co-ordinating to keep the crowd from jumping to many unpleasant conclusions and ensure that the family doesn't panic while you figure out Tabe.

Those Wacky Kids
You take a quick breath, staring down at the problematic, idiot boy flat on his back in the arena below.

Damage control, damage control, darn it Tabe why do you not seem to think DAMAGE CONTROL-

You take another breath and open a telepathic link. Dad, I think we need to get this out of view.

Reasoning
, he replies, face flat as he approaches the rail of his box.

Some of these people probably haven't figured out what a problem this is. Head Stauber is going to panic if we do this in public. Public is uncontrolled, private is secure.

Agreed. Methods.

Trust me, cover for me, distract the crowd and the Staubers while I get him out of sight.

Done.
Your father steps forward, raising his voice. "Well done! Well done on both sides! A well-fought match from both contestants. Heir Stauber's endurance in the face of a superior opponent is to be lauded!"

You tune your father out, cutting thrust entirely and just dropping out of the sky as you detransform. As you bend your legs to absorb the shock of landing, you school your expression into a cheerful grin.
Deceit [Kakara vs. Tabe]: 77 vs. 42.
Then you dart forward, bouncing to a halt next to him and reaching out to help him stand. "Nice match! That was a lot of fun!"

He blinks, rearing back at your sudden appearance. "I, um. Yeah, it was...that was..." He takes a second, panting. "Sorry, that always takes it out of me. That was...a lot of fun." He gives you a shy smile, taking your hand and letting you haul him to his feet.

"Yeah it was!" you say, grin stretching a little wider. "You have got to show me that trick!" You turn to face him as you back towards one of the exits, trying to keep him focused on your mood instead of thinking over the sudden shift.

He follows along by reflex. "I mean, I don't know it that well yet myself..."

"Well yeah, but everybody starts somewhere!" you say. "That was amazing!" The two of you pass through the archway leading to your family's box, and you keep the flattery coming, hoping to get Tabe to keep following.

Sure enough, he flushes, ducking his head. "Th- thank you. I'm glad you liked it." He follows you back into the hall under the stands. "So...what exactly did you-"

Expression slipping off of your face, you reach out, whirl him around, and push him into the wall, pinning him to it with a hand in the center of his chest. You scowl up at him, very firmly unmovable. Do you think?

He lets out a yelp at the contact and freezes up as you pin him, eyes wide. He follows your cue, though. What?

Thinking. Do you do it?

I- yes! What are you-?

You lean in a little. Then why, by every single kai, do you never seem to do it before opening your mouth?! You ask me for a fight -- in front of literally everybody -- and you know it's not a good idea, you want to take it back straight away, so why didn't you think first?! And then you decide to show off, again in front of everybody, a trick that would let you keep up with a Super Saiyan! You're putting my Dad and me in a really tough place, Tabe!

He gulps. I didn't think of it that way-!

I do not have a hard time believing that.

It's just a trick! Anybody can do it, even you! If doesn't even raise your profile!

You narrow your eyes, tilting your head just so until they look like little glinting slits and ooh, that works- Tell me more.

I got the idea from the stories about Scion Jaffur! They say he had a trick that he used on you that let him hit harder than his power level. I thought I could use it too! But I found something different.

About as different as it can get, yeah,
you say, easing back on the pressure just a bit. Go on.

It's like your ki is a hose, he says, calming down a bit. Your power level is the nozzle, your reserves are the water tank, and the water coming out is how hard you hit. There's more, ki control would be how much the water sprays all over the place, but that's the basic part of it! In real life, that's it, if you want more water coming out you need to change one of those things, but it turns out that it's not exactly like that. I figured out how to move more of the water from the tank through the hose at once without changing anything else.

You lean back a little further. So...what? More water coming through- oh, that's why your sense didn't change! Well, why I didn't sense any more power level, anyway, it sure felt weird. But you were hitting a lot harder than you should have been able to. And I did think you got tired fast.

Drains the tank
, he says, chancing a little grin.

You roll your eyes, stepping away entirely. Sure does. You idiot.

It wasn't that bad
, he says, looking away again.

Inventing it? No. Doing it like this, yes. My Dad's busy promising your Mom I didn't drag you back here to execute you.

He goes white. ...oh.

Yes. "Oh."
You growl quietly to yourself, pinching at the bridge of your nose. I know we're Gokun. I know that we're used to the Lord or Lady not having as much power as Clan Vegeta's. That's changing, and even if it wasn't, even we've always been allowed to deal with rebels. You need to be careful about how you show off. If there is a next time, please just come tell one of us. In private. We...really need to know these things before you splash them all over the world. You look up, sighing. Fortunately for you, everybody's going to have a lot more to think about soon.

He blinks. What do you mean?

I mean that we're making an announcement today that's going to make whatever you did fade into the background.

In fact...
You and Tabe both flinch as your father's voice sounds in your head.

Dad?! you say, wide-eyed.

Mind Delve on Tabe. I am relieved to hear that the situation is benign. That said, this needs to be handled later. I need to distract them now. The announcement happens now.

Is this the best time?
you ask, shoving your discomfort with the delving aside for now.

Tournament's over. This'll do, and I need a distraction. Get up to the box, Kakara. Heir Stauber, please return to your House.

You and Tabe look at each other as his voice fades from your minds. "He...just read me?" asks Tabe, looking disturbed.

You nod, keeping your own discomfort to yourself.

He grimaces. "...I guess I understand," he says, although his expression says anything but. "I'll go back to my House now." He turns away and starts heading for a side corridor that will take him out by his family. He pauses and looks back. "Scion? Do you...think you'd like to have another spar sometime?"

You pause midway through turning away yourself and give him a considering look. You've never really thought about romance as it applied to you, but...well, he's cute, and earnest in an appealing way. Frustrating and stupid...but what boy isn't? Still, though, you stand by what you said before; you promised nothing. "Ask me sometime when we don't have hundreds of thousands of people watching," you say, raising your eyebrows. "And then...we'll see."

He turns red, nodding. "Of course. Sorry again, I...thanks."

You nod and turns away, striding down the hall towards the stairs to your family's box. Halfway there you half-turn, not stopping. "No promises!"

He raises a hand in acknowledgment, a dopey grin on his face.

You roll your eyes and walk on.

If nothing else, the reactions are flattering.

As you approach your family's box, you take a moment and pause, your eyes filming over white. Not a full vision, just- flickers-

-of people cheering in the stands-

-a gasp of horror and terror-

-true fear,
are our preparations enough-

-training, research-

-thunderous roar-

You shake your head. You don't have the endurance or control for more, at the moment. Just flashes, unless you dedicate yourself to a vision.

With the flashes you've been getting lately, you almost fear to take the time.

You sigh and step out into the box.

Dad's eyes flicker to you. You stopped a moment. Any insights?

Nothing we didn't expect
, you say, stepping up beside him. They'll be scared.

He nods. Ready?

No.

Oh, good
. He raises his chin and opens his mouth. I thought that was just me.

Tabe Stauber is free to go, acquired as an Acquaintance [Positive].

Ki Overcharge skill unlocked (presently not acquired).

Skill Developed! Deceit [Unlearned-->Competent].
Finally.

No vote this time.

Fun fact: If you all had elected to discard the pacifist trait path, you would have had, as a default option, the chance to summarily execute Tabe right there in public last update. Kakara is not kidding when she says that assuring Head Stauber that murder was not Kakara's plan was needed. You wouldn't even have needed a particularly vicious trait path in the place of the pacifist path; just the lack of pacifism, and Kakara would have considered it.

You do not have the actions to start learning Ki Overcharge. You have committed all of your available actions to emergency actions already (feel free to read this as me putting my foot down and saying that I'm not committing the entire year to boring training updates ;)). One of the other super saiyans will start learning it instead, in the hopes of one of the four of you being able to pull out a spectacular new trick for the dragon.

I'm going to hop over to my other quest and update there, and then come back here to get us back into the yearly flow. See you all around the thread until then! Bye!

Ah, so he is overcharging his output in exchange for decreased stamina. Excellent, and quite likely a trick that can be combined with super saiyan.

The Exiles are going to be happy: the ability to increase their power, without causing a power signature increase? I expect this trick of his to become standard if it isn't classified.

Overall Skill: Exceptional. You are an acknowledged genius in the art of ki use in general, but that isn't what has carried you this far. It took years of hard work and dedication to reach your current peaks. Your natural talent has helped, yes, but you earned this. You increase Ki Manipulation skills below "Talented" more quickly.
You still haven't fixed this. :p

So the Ki Overcharge skill seems to be better then kaioken in every way. Am I right in this thinking?

Jaffur is going to be upset that he spent so much effort on a now obsolete skill.

This is...basically how it works in Bleach, with spirit energy being the equivalent of ki and spiritual pressure being the flow of spirit energy. Are you sure you haven't watched Bleach?

Well, that depends on a few factors:
1) How well can you control the increase in power?
2) How does the stamina drain compare to the damage caused by Kaio-ken?
3) Can the skills be combined?

Pretty sure, to put this in RPG type terms, that Ki Overcharge is like spending more mana on your spells for a bigger result while Kaio-Ken is like also spending health.

Either way limits how long you can fight, but the former does so by directly exhausting your reserves, the latter by killing you if you overuse it.

Kaio Ken has much more extreme effects and pays a particularly high cost to do so. More bang for your buck, and doesn't restrict what you do as much.

Likely has some rather extreme downsides though.
I don't think Kaio Ken gives more bang for your buck. Goku when fighting Frezia used Kaio Ken extensively and did not get anywhere. When he turned into a super saiyan he completely overpowered Frezia by a huge amount. Ki Overcharge allowed Tad to fight on newly transformed super saiyan level.

I can't remember how much of a boost new transformed SS gives, but I think it is more then X20 which seems to be the limit for Kaio Ken in general.

Yes new SS apparently only gives 145 million. No sure now to fit that with what I saw of the Frezia fight, but power levels are fixed and not to be argued with.

Edit: Goku must have been well under the 15 million cap that would explain it.
