Yes; how much did she bet?Is it permitted to make bets on oneself? If so, how much money did Cynthia get for betting on herself?

I dunno, saiyans don't seem like the kind to throw fights easily or readily enough for it to be a major problem.I see no reason it would not be allowed. Of course you can't bet against yourself, but betting on yourself is probably fine and even encouraged.
If you are betting on yourself it is less likely you are being paid to throw the fight. Whenever large amounts of money get involved corruption follows and so it must be fought against. I expect in most top circle matchs betting on yourself might even be required.
It seems like it'd be if not illegal then culturally functionally forbidden. Since, in some sense, you betting against yourself is a quitters choice.I dunno, saiyans don't seem like the kind to throw fights easily or readily enough for it to be a major problem.
Still useful for the people calculating the odds. How much you bet on yourself indicates how confident you are.I dunno, saiyans don't seem like the kind to throw fights easily or readily enough for it to be a major problem.
No it wasn't. We went from earning over 700000 zeni to winning 500.

... No? I'm fairly sure @PoptartProdigy is indicating we get the payout for what the odds were when we bet.No it wasn't. We went from earning over 700000 zeni to winning 500.
No we didn't - the odds crashed after we made our bet, our payout is still what was offered when we made it.No it wasn't. We went from earning over 700000 zeni to winning 500.

No. Your bet can't be changed on you after you put your bet in that would be unfair and stupid. The first guy accepted the odds when he put in his bet.If the odds were 7000 to 1 because of the number of people betting for Mitsuba and the odds are regulated by that, wouldn't it make sense for the payoff to switch? Otherwise the first guy betting gets worse payoff.
I'm not sure how it's regulated IRL, but in saiyan tournaments, competitors are permitted to gamble on themselves. It's a part of how competitors that don't reliably take purses maintain that lifestyle if they don't want or can't find a sponsor. No we didn't - the odds crashed after we made our bet, our payout is still what was offered when we made it.
AFAIK in real life sports you can't bet on yourself, to prevent any possibility of shady goings-on. What if the two fighters got together, and one agreed to take a dive if the other made a large bet on themselves and agreed to split the winnings?
I would like to bring the attention of the thread to an edit in the last story post, made at my request, in the mid battle chat between Cynthia and Mitsuba.
Don't follow the RP (though I'm always glad to see relevant information posted here, in spoilers) but on the face of it entering a tournament to be seen as a scholar does seem to be a questionable decision. Unless she desperately wants people to pay attention to her academic claims, and this is the fastest way to at least have them noticed?"Besides, I want to be known as a scholar, not a fighter," says Cynthia, dragging your attention back to the ring.
Mitsuba frowns. "Then you shouldn't have shown up today."
Which is...fairly incontestable. The crowd is looking more engaged than they have in hours. If Cynthia was hoping for instant celebrity, she would have found it difficult to find a more effective way.
"Don't we have a fight to be finishing?" asks Cynthia, ignoring that comment.
It is an effective way to draw attention, but what has she published recently that she wants attention drawn to?Don't follow the RP (though I'm always glad to see relevant information posted here, in spoilers) but on the face of it entering a tournament to be seen as a scholar does seem to be a questionable decision. I have absolutely no idea, but I suspect she's come up with something big-but-maybe-controversial and either recently published it, or is about to do so. Of course, I know very little about the RP, so I'm likely way off the mark.It is an effective way to draw attention, but what has she published recently that she wants attention drawn to?
On the other hand, if she isn't in time patrol, who the hell is the angry little guy that's got Berra sweating?I don't follow the RP either but from what I heard she does want to be a scholar. That is pretty much the only reason I am not calling bull on that sentence. I mean, it could also be she is here in time patrol business but that is OoC knowledge so I operate under the assumption the Cynthia in this TL is not the one in time patrol.
Fair enough, she's allowed to have multiple interests. She entered for reasons entirely unrelated to her academic endeavors. I just wanted her character to be more shown off.
That said, she is working on a geneology of the entire exile community.

You should try and expand this it makes a nice Omake.Mitsuba:
"I may be judging a book by its cover, but he doesn't look like a Krillin stylist. Too lean and hungry. Krillin Style takes for granted that most of the time, launching a serious attack is a mistake. You spend three quarters of your time waiting for your opening, so that the other quarter of the time you can make your shot count." She rubs her hand reflexively. "That fellow? I'm pretty sure he'd go for the jugular too fast to make a good Krillin stylist. He'd be a good something-else, just not a Krillin."
"Hmmmmm. Maybe a Frieza stylist. Wouldn't be the first lone wolf to master that style without letting word get out they were doing it, so that might explain it. Or if you told me he was a brother Demon stylist in a very bad mood, I might believe you- but I'd still wonder where he got his training."
