The only things you really need to know is that Von Flugel and her subjects are robots that are at war with the local humans because they're so advanced that their method of communication makes no sense to humans and they don't understand human culture and behaviour well enough to not come across as aggressive or at least very alien to them

I mean their leader is one of the reasonable kings I believe so that seems unlikely? also since we have ai we are one of the most likely to be able to ally with them I believe.

Nope, that was for noticing the magic trap at the entrance, as far as I can tell no outside force modified the roll. Considering we are untrained in occult as is everyone on the quest it makes sense to have a penalty.
