Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

I loved seeing what happened to the empire. All that pomp and posturing, real as a film set facade, pricked in an instant like a balloon. Can you just imagine the sinking feeling Kaiser had?

What a difference in the story when Joe interacts with people outside the shop. Massive elevation in impact.

Is Cataclysm (I don't remember the other spelling) just Tybalt's PHO handle? Survey referred to him as Tybalt here to the others when talking about Victor's power.

I'm divided. On the one hand, action chapters flow much better and stuff happens. On the other, everyone's reactions during action chapters are a lot funnier when we've seen all this obscene powerscaling getting thrown around like toys in the slice-of-life chapters.

I hope Apeiron learns from this and actually makes some mind protection technologies, specially since someone as beautiful as Survey would attract the attention of many Masters like Heartbreaker and his children.

Will the other Nazis start doubting their brain-damaging teammate? I can only guess how much damage someone like Otala would have, being his wife and all. Would Joe healing her suddenly restore some critical thinking skills or the ability to detect manipulation and force her to realize she was basically raped? She was a minor in canon wasn't she?

Did Victor get anything useful from the group? as in some alchemy skills or something clearly supernatural?

How much does Joe know about Lost Garden? I imagine some old dude basically mastering young teenagers wouldn't exactly be "okay" with him.
Survey, Fleet, and Matrix have anti-Master tech in the form of Weld's living metal. The also have access to psy-dampners like the rest of the crew. The issue with anti-master is the category is broad range and the effects which create the rating are as varied as any other power. Anti-magic wards, the psy-dampner, and special gear may work on a single instance of a master power, but are not universal. Unless it is a fiat backed power than he always runs the risk of running into a hard counter to any device he makes.

She was 19 during canon, was married to Victor for four years at that point. Victor is suggested to be in his early 30's.

Victor's power only holds on to the skill if he spent a long enough amount of time with the person. He can speed it up if he specifically targets a single skill and focuses on it while in prolonged eye contact with his target, but even then the memory of the skill fades unless he completely robs it from the host.

Probably not a lot. Lost Garden is vile, but ultimately just one of countless evils in the New England area alone. If he builds a connection to one of the kids he might do something, but as it is he is more focused on his city and grander threats like Ziz, Manakin, and the Dragonslayer's Master.

Hoooooly fuck...

...words cannot describe how fucking incredible that was unless used in the thousands.

Flawless and masterful! Flawless and god damn masterful.

so when Tetra said that she saw that people drink it on the internet... was she talking about vampires? like, she saw images/videos of vampires whether in art or in movies/tv drinking blood and thought that it was just regular? or do people actually just happen to be drinking blood in some culture i'm unaware of?

anyways holy fuck i was on the edge of my seat for this entire chapter. I love the way that everyone on team Celestial Forge except joe was fully prepared to just slaughter the nazis at the slightest provocation. as they should. Although Uppercrust threatening to declare war against not only the E88 but also their entire extended family was also fucking badass. the constant comeuppance towards the nazis throughout this chapter was just *chef's kiss* exquisite.

I'm glad that we all seem to be in agreement that the chapter ends on a title drop Invincible-style.

Love the title name drop. So cool, perfect line to end this chapter.

My only nitpick is that with all his powers, apeiron was not prepared any defenses against Victor. IIRC his powerset is not a secret in BB. Mc is so frustrating for me because he's so passive, an entirely reactive person. If I have cf powers, the very least I would do is research all parahumans living in my city.

I key to... sounds a bit awkward to me but I'm not sure if it's actually wrong or just an uncommon form
Came of weird to me too, but not wrong. The whole thing is:
Possibly deployed to the city in an effort to counter Dragon, but I doubted it. I key to Dragon's condition, she's forced to act on that, and then the people at least partially responsible move to the same city?

Not buying it. Not at all.
Maybe if the spacing was adjusted it might jut out less? So like:
Possibly deployed to the city in an effort to counter Dragon, but I doubted it.

I key to Dragon's condition, she's forced to act on that, and then the people at least partially responsible move to the same city? Not buying it. Not at all.
Or maybe it just has to be reworded entirely.

There's probably some use of pig blood or cow blood somewhere out there in cuisine.
Also yeah the Empire getting completely shut down was amazing.

Speaking of the devil, Coil elected to finally weigh in on a situation that had merely served to amuse him thus far. "I'm sorry, but six parties?"

"Myself, The Elite, Faultline's Crew, The Undersiders," I shifted slightly to direct attention to the bar staff. "And our hosts, who were equally impacted by the events."
He's asked to clarify about six parties, and then he gives a list of five.

If anything, this will be the impetus. After what happened with the ABB, Joe needed time to heal and for his power to grow. His entire situation has been a roller coaster. For all his power lets him move at light speeds in terms of progress, he DID make Survey and well... Survey is every bit what he needs to be prepared for such things.

This is a good transition point. From focus to the city to the wider world. The only greater event will be the Leviathan fight when Joe can transition to the Savior of the World as he is meant to be.

Dealing with Victor in the near future is going to happen. Unless Kaiser has him killed himself. Because Victor's power is insidious and might even have fucked with him and his team.

So time will tell.

Joe can begin to truly unleash once everything is established.

The threats are lined up on the board;
Coil and his bullshit.
The Travelers and everything to do with them.
Saint and the soon to be imprisoned team of terrorists.

Hell, Blasto might make a good ally. Rey is a just a stoner with biotinkering skills.. Barrow is the wild card there. Because well... Barrow.

Skidmark and the Merchants would be an afterthought.

I think Coil was also included in the count.

You just reminded me of how disappointed I was when Scrub showed up with the Merchants and not Blasto. Was really hoping he'd just stay with Ivy and switch sides.

Kaiser: Hurr Durr let's get Victor to steal some skillz

Apeiron,Uppercrust,Tattletale: Called out

Kaisar: *surprised pikachu face*
To be fair, I think this is the sort of extremely subtle power detail even Victor himself might not know about, like how QA made Skitter look scarier to people she doesn't even know are watching. The invisible nature of his power would might have made a more cautious man leave Victor behind, but Max is used to swinging his weight around.

I'd give decent odds that Victor's passenger is upping the power a little bit to get its grubby facets on what's up with Apheiron and his passenger.

I've had plain blood before out of curiosity and it's okay in small amounts, but not so nice in larger mouthfuls as is and it is as one can imagine best served as fresh as possible in small quantities.
I first became interested in the culinary uses of blood due do having accidentally bit a hole into my lower lip.
I have a friend who actually enjoys the taste imparted by cow blood.
Blood being used in food and drinks is not that weird.

If you like drinking what tastes like pure copper. Egh. I mean, back in the day it was thousands of calories worth of animal that you didn't just throw away, but people ate all sorts of things.

Kaiser went from a major figure in the Bay to being a bit player in dealing with national and internationally known capes. He is comedically outclassed and his secret weapon merely puts him on the same level as the Merchants. How will this affect him going forward? Find out next week on Brockton's Celestial Forge.
Secret weapon? Who? Damsel? I give her a few chapters before Apeiron deals with her
