Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

I will say that, on top of everything else, it's going to be interesting seeing how far the Minovsky particles got during the battle. With a core leak like that I wouldn't be surprised if some got to Brockton itself. Actually thinking about it more, I wonder if they would interdict Bakuda's dead man's switch at all. Dragon would also get plenty of use out of them if she's able to operate a suit close enough to harvest some samples, reverse engineering them would screw over Saint and the Dragonslayers pretty hard.

So! When all is said & done, Chen considers himself Aperions minion? He got medical, gear & powers. The first thing his boss asked is for him to leave the city to not be targeted, again, like a favored sidekick/ minion.

Odds are he will return, but would he organize what is left of the ABB to work for Aperion? Wrong or Bad, the ABB does try to protect Asians against E88 targeting, Chen could show Officer Skills & organize.

On the subject of Catch Scene? I am curious what others saw & heard when Aperion, on the verge of Defeat, raised his hand and called out "TRAUMA!" and the Sentai transformation took place. How would Inexplicable Innuendo work with that? They did not twirl around in a "Sailor Moon" transformation, or did they? Tetra was Helping..

I still think it would have been funny if Aperion did the Power Ranger thing of defeating the enemy, turn & they do fireworks blow up in the background, or is that more likely with Leet Tech?

They DID get to the city. A section of the docks had it's lights turn off with the core leak. Hopefully by the time Joe recovers, they have faded away.

EDIT2: For extra clarification. Under that perspective, the fact that March was noticeably reacting during the relevant timeframe is in-of-itself an inconsistency in the story, because (as you have noted) she shouldn't be able to.
Except, do note that that it wasn't that short of a time frame.
Loose fibers from wounds on my arm wrapped around March's wrist, burning through her costume and causing the rabbit cape to scream and flail.
Joe was moving fast, but not so fast that her nerves couldn't detect the pain, deliver said pain impulses to her brain, which her brain responded with screaming and flailing. Even if the screaming and flailing was aborted before it actually started, response time for a touch stimulus like that is at the very least 0.15 seconds. Pretty damn fast, but not supersonic fast to the point of tearing off limbs and flesh.

I noted that it wasn't supersonic because she could react, not that she was overpowered because somehow she could react at supersonic speeds.

Minovsky particles explicitely got to a small part of Brockton's Bay. And yes, that will play havoc on the city.

(But with something like a third of the city destroyed, that will be the last of their problems)

Hopefully by the time Joe recovers, they have faded away.

Minovsky's surive 30 days, so an eternity from Apeiron point of view.

Unfortunately, this chapter broke suspension of disbelief for me.

I am not comfortable with how Oni-Lee was able to survive spawning clones in the beginning. You'd think that the motoroid would be able to shoot them down at close to light speed; the only way he would have been unable to do that is if Oni-Lee's teleportation was literally instantaneous, and he could queue up jump back-and-forth to effectively create clones while never exposing himself at all. But okay, Sechen ranges, whatever; I can deal.

I an extremely hard-pressed to believe what happened to Apeiron when he was shot down. The attack against him was said to ignore defences, and it would NEED to do that to get past his armor. The result of this was described as him having trouble finding a bone that wasn't broken, but I don't understand why there is any breaking at all - the areas hit by the annihilation effect should be gone, and everything else should be unaffected. If any part of him was left at all, Apeiron should be swiss cheese, not ground beef. I don't read Ward so maybe I just don't understand March's power, but the result described here doesn't seem consistent with how an annihilation power would interact with a high defense.

I don't understand how March survived the blow from Aperion. By the way that the combination of Divinity and Life Fivers were described, I would have expected a mere mortal with no defensive powers to be literally pasted by any contact from Aperion. The update mentions that "even with the speed of my movement I could see her try to twist her body to absorb the force", but I don't see how that is possible with how fast Aperion should be going; nor do I see how any sort of adjustments to her body would stop her from being pulped by the attack.

And I don't see how Lung survived that fight, either; he really shouldn't have been either durable, strong, or fast enough for the feats that he pulled off here. Not by a long shot. Seriously, when the duplicate joined the battle he hit Lung with a full-powered attack; how did it not reduce Lung to his constituent atoms? And then he survived the full missile barrage on top of that? And then later, his fires start being enough to threaten the duplicate's suit, despite Aperion's armor's ridiculous resistance to heat which was explicitly brought up in previous chapters?

Look, I'm sorry, but I just don't believe it. We've had literally hundreds of thousands of words about the improvements that Aperion was putting into his tech, but basically all of it made no difference. In the case of March being able to no-sell defenses, sure, that is justified by the nature of her powers as written. But for the rest? I don't see how the fight could have proceeded how it did.

Joe already have lots of antagonist lying around : Coil, Dragon, the Endbringers, the Entities. That's more than enough conflict to give Lord time to build new antagonists if needed.

I feel like Butcher, Coil and Mannequin are the three cape threats that are likely to replace current villain roster. Then again any parahuman is liable at becoming the next villain of the story if their Shard decides to ramp up their conflict drive to the max.

How did you imagine close quarters battle of life fibers possessed half dead body against someone who's power only "think - good" will go if not her getting one punched? If you're ment satisfying battle of wits, then we got one, in the previous chapter.
I wasn't referring to the CQC-sequence, but their confrontation in its entirety.

If you want this discussion, please continue via PM either here or discord. This is a sufficiently complicated situation that there will always be a justification you can rebut my attempted explanation of how other people feel with. And I will always have a rebuttal to that. Repeat ad infinitum.

Ideally, however, I would like to wait until I have completed my proper analysis of the chapter. Would you like me to PM you then so that we can have a proper discussion rather than both running on vague memories of segments of the very long chapter?

Nah, I'd rather not, I'd rather drop it here since I do have to sleep. I was just pointing out my thoughts and how I just want people to be more patient before going straight to talking of SoD break. I hate March just as much as anyone on this thread, but I just don't see why people are so sure that March survived when there wasn't any hard statements about it.

At least wait for LordRoustabout to say his piece about it, he deserves that much after writing a chapter this huge in such a short timeframe.

Got a link to the discord, please?

On the march and lung thing, im not sure if this has been brought up but aside from the loss of life that lung could cause to the city. Taylor lives there and despite march beingore dangerous than the endbringers if taylor dies so do all the worlds.

This was an incredible chapter. I look forward to reading the reactions. Preferably both PHO and maybe someone frombthe city. Either a ward/protectorate member (maybe triumph or velocity would be nice. The implication of him seeing the motorcycle in flashtime) or an undersider.

The scene with chen was hilarious. Im a divine wizard lol.

Especially egregious was Oni Lee somehow blowing up the motoroid despite it being covered in point defence lasers specifically for the purpose of killing Oni Lee and somehow also surviving the explosion.

Oni Lee blew the motoroid with March annihilator ability.

That's gonna be some fun cleanup...

...that could be the title of the chapter.

Because fiction conditioned us to believe that if you don't see the body, then they are not dead. And it's even worse for comic book.

I still reading the comments but I think, yeah the shards did some serious shenanigans to get data, that the 'empire' will collect the joker-lite if she don't have a backup plan...lucky of her that these are thugs that just lost a cape and probably don't want to lose another one (or two with oni) give how pissed the entire city is.

Anyway the 'little' mecha that could...
...hit you in FTL ^^.

Master's Body (History's Strongest Disciple: Kenichi) Free after 10 years:
You possess the body of a master. You are very near tireless, capable of fighting for days without sleep and only limited food. You never run out of breath, and will still be able to engage in vigorous physical activity even after extreme exercise. You now have access to a limitless logarithmic growth of your physical strength, durability, speed and agility.

I'm supprised this wasn't commented on more, it seems huge. Unlimited growth right there.

Tropes get played straight and subverted all of the time. Just because one side is more likely doesn't mean it's always the case.

In all honesty, I shared more of Joe's thoughts on the Fist of Peace perk. Too many of Joe's perks made him think in inhuman ways - that makes the one perk that is very human all that more precious. And that ability to strike a dialogue in every battle, as well as allowing him to project a calming atmosphere? That would help Joe avoid unnecessary fights in the future.

HOLY FUCK THAT IS BROKEN! That is going to be a massive boost to Lifefiber Training.

I know it won't happen and it would totally hurt the SOD broken folk, but I kinda want Lung to come back Ghidorah style 3 heads and shit. That would be so fucking funny. Lung going Titan, hell any of the villains going Titan would be interesting.

Unfortunately, the whole Broken Trigger thing only started to happen because of Zion's death. With him still around, it's not possible for Joe to meet Titans just yet. Pity, when they actually fit his power levels more.

Anyhow, I'm curious about the aftermath. The clean up is gonna be a nightmare. There's the Minovsky Particles, the Dust, and the motoroid and other gear/tech/mech parts.
Your forgot the E-Zero core that just blew up when hitting lung, From Mass Effect cannon there tend to be long term issues there. I wonder how shards would interact with nascent biotics.

I am cautiously hopeful after this chapter. I think things will change up and this ABB slog will draw to a close. I don't think things will necessary be better afterwards. This fic has stuck close to Worm's grimdark "Everything's suck and it's only going to get worse" message and I don't see that changing. But! It's at least be a new, interesting cluster fuck.

March is probably alive. Yes, that blow should have killed the squishy tinker, but Bakuda has shown of her nifty healing tech. How hard would it be for March to have one of those healing bombs on her person keyed to her heartbeat? So she probably has roughly all of the cancer now, but she's alive. That could lead to a change from bothering Apeiron to kidnapping Othala (may or may not help. I think her power is just straight regeneration and requires the user to focus on the wound to activate, which is difficult when it's less a wound and more an infestation) or to cracking the PRT and dig out Panacea (which is easier said than done and would lead to them focusing on her instead of sitting on the sidelines). In either case, Apeiron will no longer be her top priority.

Without March to pull her strings, Bakuda is more of a "Bigger Hammer" girl. So, more explosions but less plotting. That combined with Apeiron getting a lead on her deadman's switch should reduce her threat greatly. She's still going to go after Apeiron, because she's an obsessive idiot, but what can you do?

Lung is gone gone gone. If getting launched into space at FTL speeds didn't kill him, then his plot armor is invincible and Apeiron should just throw him at Zion and the Endies rather than building new gadgets. He was the big stick that kept away the Nazis. With him gone and the ABB low on mooks due to arrests, deaths and the general "WTF?!"ness of Bakuda, the Nazis are going to be eating into ABB territory hard. Yeah, they're less reliant on territory due to March's machinations, but Bakuda still needs a secure lab to build her bombs and that becomes harder to acquire with no safe territory they can claim.

Not sure what's going on with Uber and Leet, but I don't see them sticking around on a sinking ship.

In short, I think this'll shake things out of the rut this fic has been in and start Apeiron on the road to operating on the national or global stage instead of piddling around in a bombed out ruin of a city.

Finally, a moment of silence for Triumph, who saw a ramped-up Lung and thought "Meh. I can take him." May he rest in peace.
