Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

This update as a whole:
Apeiron: You would need to change reality itself to have this be any more dangerous
Flechette: OMG, what if I hurt you
Apeiron: You can't, I'm stronger than reality
Flechette.exe has crashed, please restart
Apeiron: Oh, also the world is ending.
It was like he was talking about a particularly difficult aspect of a hobby rather than a completely impossible feat of… she didn't even know. Engineering? Power manipulation? Reality alteration? Fuck, it could be elf magic for all she knew.
No, of course not. The elf magic fixes completely different problems silly.
If she did this, would she even count as human anymore? Her eyes darted to the other people at the table. Weld and Apeiron. With everything that Apeiron had displayed, did he even count human anymore?

Of course he was, and so was Weld. She swallowed and felt her conviction start to harden. Extraordinary abilities and circumstances didn't mean someone wasn't a person. If she took the offer, she wouldn't age, but was that such a big deal? Did Weld age?

….did Garment?

That was perhaps not the direction she should be taking in her considerations, but she couldn't help herself. Garment wasn't normal. She didn't have a bound and contained existence the way other people did. She certainly didn't have any biological needs or indications that she had to worry about 'mortal' concerns.
Man, I love the philosophy... and she got distracted by sexy. Poor horny teenagers.
"Not really." He said flippantly. "The complete destruction of your entire body on a fundamental level across multiple dimensions, inclusive of the surrounding fabric of space-time might do it, but that's not really something you can 'look out' for."
Hahaha

Out in shard space, Weld's undead shard is somehow humming with joy. Good for it.

And if I'm remembering correctly, the four key powers belong to Lily, Taylor, Amy, and Riley? Presumably Riley is the one who's getting the boot.

John: Hey baby, I'm home.
Wanda: Hey honey, how was your lunch with Darla?
John: It was good. I don't have cancer anymore, so that's cool.
Wanda: What? What are you talking about?
John: Yeah Jesus came by and said the Revelation will soon be upon us, and that Darla has been chosen as a Horsemen, holding the Seat of Conquest.
Then he cured my cancer before leaving.
Pretty intense. Cool guy though.

Flechette is now The VIP for the protectorate, holy shit.

Given how many powers don't work on endbringers, Lexi and crew probably cynically assumed that the silver bullet they were looking for died robbing a drugstore somewhere in Nebraska.

Knowing that one of the world's strongest para humans thinks she is important enough to warrant handing out close-enough immortality too?

She's getting Legend as a bodyguard lol.

She glanced from the sphere to the flower, still impossibly balanced on the table. With a slight thought the flower shifted across the table to warp around her wrist again. Despite the seriousness of the situation and despite the intimidating display that had been involved in the creation of the origami impossibility, she couldn't help but smile. It might have been made of scrap and be nothing by Apeiron's standards, but it was still powerful, elegant, beautiful, versatile, and dependable. That was as big a statement as any other part of its creation.
warp->wrap

fifteen cubic feet... ? I'd think that 4-5 would be plenty? Oh, well, I guess Weld is a big guy.
- and thanks for the chapter!

Thank you for the chapter! I loved the whole situation but i have to say my favorite part of the chapter is the call back making Flecette a sword. Back when Joe could make copies of Marchs terrible sword they were so pissed at it. Now they have what they want!

"What if we just make Flechette a sword?" I suggested. "Like a nice arming blade? Something that doesn't look like a Halloween reject? Then we just wait for her to use her power and-"

"Have ten times as much trouble deciphering the effect?" My other duplicate cut in.

"Probably." I admitted. "Still, we should get some more scans, and at least see some effects in person."

It was a fencing saber. A beautiful saber, made out of paper. Which made it lighter than a foil. The material hadn't changed, it was still paper. White paper and blue ink, but the way they were woven together was incredible. The way the designs and inscriptions danced along the blade, the layering of the paper which carried a pure sheen that only highlighted the unquestionably deadly edge, that slight texture to the grip and the fold of the guard that wrapped around her hand.

It was paper, but there was no question that it was stronger than any material she could imagine comparing it to. The durability power was unquestionable. It resonated with every movement of the blade.

More than that, it seemed to call out to her power. Cautiously, she extended her power to the blade in her hand. Normally it took time and focus to charge an item with her power. The paper sword just seemed to drink it in. She could empower it in an instant, faster than she had ever been able to before. It would let her empower her strikes on the moment of contact, or change the properties just as quickly. Phasing through matter, ignoring natural forces, or just plowing through everything in her way.

Apeiron smiled at the blade, fully charged with her power. She saw his reaction and felt slightly embarrassed, like she had been playing with something that belonged in an art collection rather than the hands of a street cape. She loosened her grip and felt the blade fold back, retracting into flower form.

Hilariously enough, Flechette can kill herself even with this super-duper-uber-healing. Just needs to use her power on a comically large anvil and let it squish her.
Not a good idea since all the stuff she'll have to set it to ignore with Sting would have the anvil go through the ground, the crust, the mantle, and all the way to the core of the planet where gravity (the only thing it'll presumably not ignore for the anvil to fall in the first place) would keep it there forever until at whatever point in the future where the planet gets destroyed, unleashing an unstoppable anvil heading towards the nearest gravity well it could destroy everything in its path next.

Instead I suggest using a giant hydraulic press and using Sting on the entire thing before activating it. Much less destruction involved.

Yes!
Was worried for a bit due to the lack of word.

Nice to see youre alright Roust(thumbs up)

Best wishes on your side of life

Ngl, Im feeling partial with the Lily thing. On one hand, I feel like she's just trying to use garment as a rebound girl and is entirely moving too fast and is edging towards invasive. Kinda disrespectful, dont do garment like that. But teenagers i guess(shrug).

But on the other, I just kinda want the rest of the forge to be ......pure (I guess), until the time they get more experience and has had a bit of time being independent from Joe. When they have matured and left the nest so to speak, at the end of the story or until things in bet are resolved.

But hey, maybe thats just me(shrug)

Now, Taylor on the other hand...
Hush, PANACEA is the potential biosphere killing threat to worry about. Taylor's only three Biblical Plagues at a minimum.

And if I'm remembering correctly, the four key power belong to Lily, Taylor, Amy, and Riley? Presumably Riley is the one who's getting the boot.
Correct. Riley's not needed because Joe can sub in for her.

I'd think that 4-5 would be plenty?
75 kilos for an average person = 75 liters of water volume = 2.65 cubic feet. But there's probably dimensional folding shenanigans going on so there's extra mithril to replace lost body mass.

I refuse to believe Metal Monkey didn't add in an emergency teleportation effect into the nanites if something was actually able to get through all of the defenses.

I'd say it's safe to assume he meant that she'd have to be destroyed completely all in an instant with no part of her still existing for even a nanosecond later.

The metal upgrade for Weld was great, and now Joe can copy a better sword than some mall garbage. Can't wait to see the fallout of this, though it's totally possible it'll be wiped by the S9 fallout.

Apeiron hadn't cut them off from consol,
console,
"It's advanced technology that probably seems fairly invasive, but I can assure you, it is absolutely safe. It will keep you absolutely safe.
safe."
"Difficult?" She asked a bit unsteadily
.
"Borderline impossible."
unsteadily.

"Borderline
"Yeah." HE said, turning to Lily.
He

it'll be wiped by the S9 fallout.

What fallout? Joe intends to erase Jack Slash's legacy completely. That implies a Lethe-level effect that effectively and retroactively erases their existence from the memories of everyone on the planet outside of a select few.

RCB will still know the Siberian killed Hero and ripped half her face off, and that Jack was a notorious serial nihilist that Cauldron allowed to run rampant for decades, but only in the sense of a dry historical footnote that might only ever crop up as an obscure trivia question.

I think that scenario would be even worse.

When the anvil reaches the core, it would not suddenly stop (since nothing can stop it). It would instead start to orbit the earth's center of mass, flying through the crust, sometimes dipping above the surface and always deleting everything in it's path. Slowly (very slowly, since it's so incredibly large) the earth will be consumed until it does not have enough mass to keep the high speed anvil in it's gravitational grasp. Then it probably goes into orbit around the sun.

As usual, Cauldron and by consequence the PRT will flip it's lid in a overbearing manner and try to fuck up as usual once they learn what happened. Bureaucracy, the age old nemesis of common sense will strike again.

The thing is, the triumvirate are used to being the biggest dogs on the block, but with the forge and apeiron in play, it must be causing a severe case of heartburn.

I wouldn't be surprised if Eidolon let's out another endbringer out of sheer envy, unintentionally of course...

"It is." He assured her. It's made with nothing but scrap paper and a ballpoint pen. I didn't add anything to it beyond my own skill and the materials you gave me. That's what I meant. That is junk that I can throw together out of nothing but scrap."
There should probable be a starting quotation mark before "It's made with".

Good catch! Now Aperion can wield unlimited cosmic power (shard edition) without looking like an idiot.

Well, that conversation is going to be so classified. Lily and Weld will be reporting to national and suddenly think tank groups are worried about threats worse than endbringers. His reaction making Lily damn near immortal would be understandable.

Thinking about it, it wouldn't take a large leap of logic to believe he was also protecting Taylor.

I'm curious about his next meeting with Amy. Well, more about which members of her family would be around at the time. I want to see Amy, Vicky, Crystal, and Joe at a table chatting. That'd be more impressive than him in his Apeiron persona.

I can't wait for Armsmaster and Dragon to scan Lily for her new tech healing factor.

I was giggling when Lily didn't get what Joe meant about a Major Project and what it might meant and then his reaction about what he needed to do show off. It would be nice if they had body cams and that was recorded.

Joe it was a floating pretty sphere, which only you saw the effort to make it. Compared to the flower sword paper thing that they got to watch been created. It might not have been anything to him, but the presentation was entirely different. It seemed like more effort was put into it since they could see it being crafted.

Meh, Joe loves showing off so he's happy.

Great interlude, looking forward to how the PRT reacts. This is big.

Another aspect I like about this fic is the lack of Cauldron interludes. Their plan and operations is so absurd that any writing from their perspective weakens the work as a whole. Things start to get silly when they start talking. Keeping their presence vague and in the background was the right call.
