Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Will Joe have learned how to make clingy soul-bound items? You know so his gifts don't wander off or get stolen/broken from those he gives them to.
Joe already knows how to do this. He reverse-engineered the "can't be lost or stolen" effect on Miss Militia's gun for his own use, and he was even able to stick it on Chen's transforming lasgun sword.

The only problem is he did it with weapon runes and he doesn't like handing out things that count as weapons.

He's good enough at Percy Jackson blacksmithing that he can probably do it that way. It is available after all. He literally has as many boosts to Percy Jackson blacksmithing as he can get without Glory to Me.

The PRT specifically don't ask because the higher ups shit the bed and made him enemy number 1 right before the people he was warning them about blew everything up. The people that have the chance aren't willing to risk the wrath of HIM. And the people that haven't had the chance have actually been heard and have been scheduled into the queue during the big societal uplift.

Like that would stop anyone in real life.

Considering everything that the people who have the chance knows is in play, the risk isn't worth the reward. Apparently Assualt nearly brought down the entire PRT with that one request because the ENE office is built on a house of cards made of jello and the blowback onto the rest of the branch could sink the whole ship, or at the least do major damage.

Faultline's crew now have to manage the wave of case 53s from every spectrum of morality, not at all helped by an all but confirmation of a cure.

The Celestial Forge essentially own the other two organizations in all but soul, and even that is a maybe, that have asked anything of them.

He has open disdain for nearly everyone else so it's clearly off the table.

He's not a genie, he's a fae and first rule of the Fae, don't make deals with the Fae.

While that's how the PRT see him we know that's not true. Making a deal with Aperion is actually a great idea. What he does for a deal is a net positive for whoever asked for it. The only reason why deals end poorly is the PRT sticking their nose it it. While the PRT may think he's a Fae creature, he's actually just some dude named Joe.

Correction, first rule of the Fae is; Don't piss off the Fae.
Second rule is don't make deals with Fae.
Third rule is, if your going to ignore rule 2, then, stick to the deal and do not try to swindle the Fae.
I think rule three is don't assume the Fae has the sane interpretation of the deal as you do. Then make the original rule three rule four. Fae are supposed to be eldritch beings with extremely alien values and views.

you mean rule one is don't get involved with the fae and rule two should probably be watch your language around them especially in regards to deals, debts and your name.

I love how visibly interested you made him in Proto Aima because yeah, that's where his interests would lie. Raising the tech threshold every three days is impressive in general, but for someone with a kid that needs an impossible medical miracle, it's hope made manifest - it won't be years of misfires and endless money into the gaping pit of research, it might be that Weld gets the rest of his treatment a week from now. Everyone wants it, but his baby boy has both the advance payment and the friendly contact to make this something of a near guarantee once it's possible.

I think part of the dearth of requests is how seriously he takes them. Sure it's cool to have an unbreakable contract with an insanely powerful Tinker, but it's less cool when it stems from a casual comment and the price you pay is inconvenient (though likely affordable given past contractants) but breaking the deal gets you annihilated. Most likely he won't take you up on it, but if he does, an unintentional blunder (Victor and E88 style) or negligent mistep can blow out of proportion instantly.

(Author's Note: Due to a fairly stressful few weeks I've been behind on my writing schedule and ended up having to cut this interlude in half to avoid further delays
Honestly I don't mind smaller chapters. If it makes you more productive and keeps things going I'm all for it.
He'd had to deal with Blasto's offensive. And Blasto's failed offensive, which was significantly more destructive than if the tinker had been able to recover what he had deployed before being defeated. And then the power vacuum caused by Blasto's absence.
That's partly Aegis's influence isn't it. "Attack weak points to get the wins you can" works right up until the only enemies you have left are the ones way to powerful to deal with.
They did not have any bilingual agents or staff assigned to the hostages. They were unable to provide an account of what the language situation was or what resources were available to address it. Most of the housing and containment had been handled through repurposed National Guard assets, with guardsmen being relied upon to supplement PRT staff in managing the situation.
This is why generals so often make for such poor peacekeepers.
thinking it was a PRT trick to keep them calm while they were hidden away from the public eye so no one could see what would happen to them when Bakuda became frustrated with the negotiations.
The fact that this is entirely plausible shows exactly how fucked this situation is.

What the fuck, were they not even trying to set up communications with hostages???

No, they weren't. PRT ENE is fucking up by the numbers. How much of that is 'Piggot is incompetent' vs 'Piggot is bigoted' vs 'Calvert is sticking his oar in' is debatable.

You know, Ive just realized how unfair Ashia has been with Joe about certain things.

Like, telling him more about herself or things like Brian is grue. Like Joe has pretty much confided everything about himself to her while she always keeps everything about herlself to herself, which would be fine but like being part if his team and being trusted a lot by joe... You'd think she would open up more.

Pretty sure she's told him a lot about herself. In fact, I think the only thing she hasn't talked about is probably Grue/Brian and that's because she's trying to prank them both. Seriously, do you have any idea how hard it must be to prank Joe?

Eh that's small potatoes really to how all the undersiders other than Alec have been treating him especially Lisa and Taylor who had gotten way more than they deserved from him even before he gave them more stuff such as the bag, armour and garment costumes.

Except the Undersiders aren't actually members of the Forge, and shouldn't be held to similar standards.

Personally speaking I prefer them. Over on SB there's a 25k chapter of Apprentice of the Devourer I haven't read because reading long chapters on SB/SV is a pain in the ass. 6k is my 'happy medium'. 10k is my 'I can read this whenever' limit. My main issue is that I read on my phone, and if I put the phone down mid-chapter I put even odds on it reloading the page and forcing me to hunt for the spot I left off at.

The question is why don't more people ask stuff of Joe, it doesn't matter what's true when they're working off the new and improved myTruth™.

I read on my phone as well and used to have that problem. My solution is the find in page tool. Just type in the last sentence you remember. It will be a bit before you stopped and give you a nice recap.

You certainly have a very weird interpretation of everything that has happened and peoples opinions on him.

I do think that the PRT seems to think Joe is basically some kinda Fae creature. Of course a much more logical interpretation is a regular dude with more power than whst he knows to do with who was out of his depth at first. It's so funny the scary Aperion's civilian name is Joe.

It's the technically correct interpretation, the best kind of interpretation.

  1. Survey's conditions for the help Assault asked for and nearly agreed to, by official policy, would take an investigation everyone knows the ENE branch would not survive. So much dirt would get aired out it could cause new policies that would cripple the near carte blanche most directors rely on to keep their divisions alive and running.
  2. Gregor successfully asked about curing Case 53s,he and Faultline's crew know they can totally cure c53s, they just need Brockton Bay secure enough to handle the stampede of C53s that will know doubt happen. Gregor and Co, to 'pay' for their treatment, have been tasked with telling them all to be patient.
  3. Uppercrust was ready and willing to sell his soul on top of everything else and essentially did. The Undersiders, at least on 'paper' are so in the hole they'll never be free. In truth everyone that isn't Grue knows it's all pretense to keep them safe cause he's a genuine good guy that cares. Something none of them have any experience handling and it shows. It also happens to be that him caring includes a non-zero chance he'll resurrect you in the event the worst happens like a modern day Asclepius.
  4. Of the rest, aside from Blasto and Bad Apple specifically, I'm pretty sure Purity is the only one crazy enough to think the CF can in anyway be swayed to do anything more than suffer their existence while the place and people they have chosen to protect could become collateral damage(and other reasons they are unaware of)

I wonder what happened to that Aura-unlocked dude, it's been a while since he ... went to Boston to meet with his family? i think?
