Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Joe is protected, but Crystal isn't...
But there is no reason for any precog to go after Crystal on her date with totally-a-normal-guy, any more than they would go after Crystal at any other time, and probably LESS likely than times when she is alone and/or exhausted, if they aren't going to follow the rules and only attack when she is in costume.

I just binged this entire story in way too short a time period. I love well-done god-like powers stories that don't aren't just power fantasies or canon grimdark turned up to 11.

The idea of folks like Tattletale and Armsmaster not noticing that they're evaluating a bipedal cat is probably the funniest thing I've read in a while.

I'm very much looking forward to the Celestial Forge synthesizing the facts to the point where they understand what Cauldron has been doing and why. I can't imagine they're going to have very high opinions of the secret group's efficacy, strategy, or ethics.

What did you think of the 'inverted Stranger effect' from the Chubster interlude?

It was amusing, though it was kind of swamped by the well-reasoned but utterly inaccurate assessments of the whole team.

I'm very curious on whether Joe's thoughts on the effects of Jack Slash's passenger is going to play into how people have been assessing the Celestial Forge overall. Locally, Coil is always an obvious foil for ENE being awful at their job, and we know Cauldron has their intent for BB, but this is the first fic I've seen where it was implied that Jack's precog power was tied with an actual wide-ranging master effect for capes in general that caused general incompetence vs. S-class threats.

For the Gundam fans. How exactly would one go about removing the blackout field? I know enough to know that minovsky particles are hax and that they normally break down after a month but how can this process be increased?

Per wog it will happen naturally over time but can be sped up by making them expend their charge which fortunately happens in any type of contact with water including rain especially if it's salt water. Of course various groups have also been stealing them and Joe offered to clean them up in exchange for being allowed to do so without getting atked by the prt which they wouldn't allow and even twisted his request when they spread internal word about it.

So, I know I'm probably late to this particular debate but...

The thing with "Jack power mindwhamming Cauldron" doesnt make total sense.

Mostly because the de facto leader of Cauldron is, in fact, not Confessa but Doctor Mother.

The, you know, non-cape that initially guided Lil'Contessa aka Fortuna into murdering The Thinker.

She never became a cape, cant even if I remember it right (no corona).

I find weird how people often forget about her. Especially since she is one of the few non-villian characters that is black.

From the wiki, she does have a pollentia. That might mean Broadcast can influence her, or it might not.

In any case, she's just not that relevant, and we don't know much about her. She's boring, in other words.

She's certainly the de jure leader... Is she really the de facto one though? And even if she is... basically entirely dependent of thinkers for providing the information she uses to make most decisions. She meets with powerful thinkers constantly and so much of the minutia of how to implement things is handled via PtV.

The problem is that Cauldron as a organization relies alot on Path to Victory to do their heavy lifting. Doctor Mother my be in charge but if she asks Contessa if the Nine are a benefit to their plans she'll trust Contessa if she says yes.

I think Accord said it best:
What he had assumed to be competence was obviously buoyed by the prodigious abilities of the Boogeyman. The inability to even consider the possibility of subversion of that asset spoke poorly of their operational structure,

Both would work and are going to happen fairly soon anyway given the Levi atk is the 15th of May in canon and lord says it can be brought slightly further forward so will probably happen in around 2 in story weeks given it's currently the 28th of April.
The field will mostly be gone by then anyway.

Doctor Mother doesn't actually do all that much unless Contessa is incapacitated for some reason. She just conducts her research and lets Contessa handle everything else.

Not only that, it also lambasts the canonical reliance of literally everyone on Thinkers to do their decisions and info gathering for them. As Joe put it, between March and later Jack Slash, once the dust has settled it's very unlikely that any organization would rely on Thinkers nearly as much anymore. There is even irony in that Joe's own subterfuge relies on this dependence on Thinkers but he considers it a worthwhile exchange over people not believing Thinkers wholesale anymore.

Inducing distrust in thinkers could be part of the plan in regards to Joe breaking out of his subterfuge. As in, right now if they break their thinker profiling, a significant part of the cascade would be thinkers realising they couldn't predict the Forge and then freaking out over it. If you reduce the dependency organisations have on them, it would almost certainly reduce the fallout. In short, it might not just be a worthwhile exchange, but rather at least part of the point

This has so many implications and potential. I don't know whether it's the direction you are going for, but if maintained on a semi-regular basis, this kind of gala would effectively transform the cape vs cape dynamics.

In Worm, due to the PRT and the conflict drive, cape interaction on the whole is violent or geared towards physical conflict. Capes meet each other in battles or in preparation of battles.

Outside of the Protectorate, there's not really an established neutral environment for capes to meet outside of extraordinary situations.

I always thought this lack of environment for them to meet with their 'weapons' down and away so to speak is probably an exacerbating factor in the toxic cape environment of Worm. Like how ancient humans went through great violence and bloodshed before the advent of more civil, social-based platforms for different groups to meet. If everyone behaves like a caveman, a civil, stable society is probably the stuff of Pipe's dream.

If Joe keeps hosting these social events, that will end up as an actual environment where different groups and capes can meet each other in neutral, nonviolent settings, thus laying the groundwork for a more sophisticated (and less pointlessly violent) cape-based social fabric.

Capes: Guh, can't... socialize... urge to crash party... rising... conflict drive... inescapable...
Apeiron: I understand, but before you melt down, would you like to try the catering? The tea is a relaxing blend of my own selection, highly reviewed by Accord.

I'm fairly certain that nothing is stopping her from faking one beyond dignity, and Aisha's relationship with dignity is... complicated.
I meant as, like an academic exercise; she has a literal planet's worth of mana available to channel, and several examples of how to do various tricks with it. So her own magnum opus could be to create an actual transformation amulet that some random "worthy child" can pick up and use. She has quite a bit of the relevant knowledge already and Joe can provide a lot of the rest. Could even be more Super Sentai/Power Rangers styled if she doesn't want to let her inner princess out to play.
I think Dinah might appreciate such a thing.

The field will mostly be gone by then anyway.

Joe put up the estimation of it lasting a month shortly after it went up which was just under a week ago so with Levi coming in around 2 weeks it'll probably shave off around a week but could get into the double digits depending on when exactly it is and how much has been shaved off by people stealing them, scion and other things that have consumed them such as Manpower using them to ape flight.

But most of her decisions rely on Contessa and Number Man who are impacted by Jack. Add in Alexandria who is also being influenced and Eidolon who is not only impacted by Jack but also has a direct feed from Simurgh and they are totally compromised. Jacks powers work both ways too...his shard doesn't just mess with their shards, it also picks up their intentions and basically gives Jack intuition on where not to be and what not to do.

The idea of folks like Tattletale and Armsmaster not noticing that they're evaluating a bipedal cat is probably the funniest thing I've read in a while.

When Krieg was wondering where he could have served I burst into laughter. How many cat armies do you know, man?

It would be interesting if you get Cauldron white knuckling a table at the thought they've been subverted for more than a decade, because 'they cause triggers' must get balanced out with 'how many capes do they kill'. There's probably an answer that would justify inaction, but not being able to make the judgement in the first place would be chilling, especially since they also direct national policy and influence a lot of the forces that might have taken the initiative to act instead. They might still disagree with some of the blanket measures that would target powerful villains, but honestly portaling the likes of Crawler (and just about any cape that's very strong but too disruptive) to an alternate Earth till his presence is required should have been the name of the game. You can absolutely cryo Manton till the end of the world and Manequin should have been purposely targeted as a Ziz bomb that's actively doing her job for her. Like, if someone portaled Ash Beast onto an empty Earth it wouldn't hurt him, since the whole social deprivation is ongoing even here, but also easily deniable - straight up publish that Scion did it (his whereabouts can't be tracked and who's to say he didn't spend 30s in the desert depowering him).

Rude just because he's a cat doesnt mean he gas to serve in a cat army, there's no army that forbids cats from joining.
There's actually some legal precedents in cats being recruited in the Navy and the Coast Guard, as boat mousers. There is even documentation of such cats.

Theoretically, one such cat can enter the army through such a position, only to rise above his station over time with achievements worthy of promotions...
