Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Seeing this update even with an omake randomly on a Monday kinda feels like arriving ahead of time in an airplane. Or seeing a unicorn. Like it's amazing but there's also a sort of unreality to it.

Also Joe in Girl Genius? That's a cool idea - and crazy tinker world is a fair take for Joe to make. Even if this particualar story never updates again I can still imagine all of the good Joe could end up doing there - for one thing simply existing as a "spark" at the beginning means a number of people might have a friend to talk things over with instead of highlining down assumption road.
Glad that it wasn't just me, honestly, when I saw the update I double checked the date make sure that it wasn't Wednesday.

I am really looking forward to the GG AU continuing.
I(32M) actually 'EEEEEEH!'d after I finished reading.
I should go back through and read that comic again...

I am too. Considering the Clays haven't closed up the shop, it's clear that the events are happening at the start of the canon. I'm curious to see how Joe will derail the plot.

"Józef Ďuriš, pleasure to meet you." I said as I approached the vehicle. In the new Germanic language my name had a pronunciation I'd only remember hearing from older relatives.
Apparently, the language in Europa is mainly derived from Romanian, which suggests more about Joe's heritage, though "slavic esperanto" is a thing.

Kicked out of uni, bad medicine reaction and being derated by family

Wait, first off. It's more he's been consistently facing a toxic home life, mix in a bit of depression with a loss of support structure at school then add in misreading signals of a girl and being very publicly humiliated with a response from her and then get into multiple psychiatric treatments via therapists of which his mother would interfere with and get involved in, thus pushing Joe into a new medicine he had that and reaction too. The being kicked out of school and being home for his mother, dad, and sister to once more carry that toxic behavior against him.

whats is joe's original trigger?
If you mean what is the Shard power he would have got, it's called King of Arms but I think of it as Make Friends and Influence People (not sure if I came up with that or read it in the thread*). It's a tinker power which is a cross between Nilbog and Heartbreaker with a dash of Bonesaw. So I can see why the Other from Girl Genius freaks him out.

I know Girl Genius only through secondary sources; it is interesting the kind of world Joe would both love and hate in my opinion.
Personally what interested me the most was the 'jump' itself;
I had always felt like there was a too big degree of separation between the perks itself and the universe they came from, the change in prospective that every now shock Joe yet are not really talked about, like this ones, or even others as simply yes, aliens exist!.
I had jury-rigged together a sort of overclock to the celestial forge to send the MC to another universe once the charge go over 1000 and he draws a power, but didn't manage to make a way to return.
Still, the effect I was looking for is basically this one, the culture shock, the stark difference in morals and values between worlds

I nodded. "Well, I'm glad I could help." I noticed flakes of soot falling from my hair every time I moved. I could only imagine how bad things were in general.
Soot falling from the head, grease all over, possibly burned clothes...wow, he managed to get the mad scientist look in merely a few hours from his arrival, color me impressed

When he said "Beetleburg" I hoped. When the lady said the mechanic doesn't speak, I knew. When the sign said "Clay Mechanical", I squee'd. Damn but that was glorious!

whats is joe's original trigger?
Many have already responded, but to quote the story directly, from chapter 16, the first session with Dr. Campbell.
And then I triggered. A tinker trigger. An unsolvable problem builds up over an extended period and comes to a head in a critical instant. The world peels back and you get to see the entities with all their passengers, arbitrarily picking who gets to have powers and who doesn't. And lucky me, I had a giant meat computer with my name on it.

And then it happened. The Celestial Forge. My trigger got hijacked by a passenger from outside the cycle. No memory loss for me. I got to see the entire horrible operation in action. All the mechanisms, the motivations of the shards, and how they restrict, manipulate, and alter their hosts. And I got to choose if I wanted the power or not.

I also got to see what I would have ended up with otherwise. Extended periods of isolation means control tinker. The added fun of triggering under a bad reaction to antidepressants meant a dual specialty. It was a bad joke. I always wanted to be a tinker. Fate leads me to a tinker trigger and what do I get to specialize in? Bioengineering and Neurochemistry.

I don't even like normal chemistry. The specialties came with no more mechanical knowledge than was absolutely necessary to facilitate their work. And the work in question was some of the worst tinkering imaginable.

It was like someone took the phrases 'Make Friends' and 'Change Your Mind' and decided to use them as tag lines for a horror movie. That's basically what my tinker power would have been. Nilbog meets Heartbreaker by way of Bonesaw.

And I would have gotten all those lovely powers while under the influence of drugs that seriously compromised my mental state, while in a house with people I was currently furious with, and with a passenger who would have had no intention of moderating my response.

I took the Celestial Forge and never looked back.

Must admit did not see Joe being shipped with Agatha Heterodyne by the author as a possible thing.
While shipping is probably not the right word for that, this old Lord's WoG foreshadowed this turn of events:
There are plenty of characters that Joe would get along with, from decent friendships to just solid working relationship. Picking the best choice is a little tricky. I could actually see him getting on well with Agatha Heterodyne, and not just because of the technical projects they'd be able to complete together. They both have a similar experience of going from difficult childhood and frustrating circumstances to wielding unprecedented power and influence without any real preparation or warning. Additionally, a strong, partially ascended spark with the resources of the Heterodynes is at least in the same ballpark as Joe, if off by a few orders of magnitude, so she'll probably have an easier time relating to him than most of the characters from the other source works.

So, at the very least - decent friends. It's kinda weird how Joe finds stranger and stranger ways to get friends. From being given them out of his power, to being invaded by an unruly teen, to building them, and now being plunged in another reality to meet the other. It seems conventional is not good enough for Apeiron even in a matter of friendship.

If Joe is derailing GG Canon, as in Agatha never loses the locket?

If Agatha never lost it, would she have gained the attention of Wulfenbach heir?

Heck, she could have stayed home, a message calling out sick and a visit by the Baron..

A setting that can deal with Joe.
The only other ones that come to mind right now are WH40K and the Xeelee Sequence. Possibly also the obscure A Wild Last Boss Appeared and other NLFs could maybe challenge Joe. Speaking of Joe what is the greatest manifestation of power he can perhaps draw from the Nasuverse given a day's worth of time and assuming his current configuration remains for that period of time?

Please tell me this is not a one-shot! Girl Genius is such a great setting, and Joe would fit right in. More please.
