Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

I think Cody would be pretty surprised to hear Accord described as "not a slaver", what with the whole being sold to the Yangban thing.

1) Whoops, forgot that. In Worm it was one person canonically, though

2)But also, and even though it's horrifying still, I feel it's a little different to sell your enemies into slavery than to kidnap civilians to sell them into sex trafficking. He doesn't make that one of his main sources of income, he's more of a white collar crime kind of guy

3) I'm pretty sure him selling capes to the Yangbang wasn't publically known...?

4) Accord's territory is Boston, so there's a certain degree of separation

WoG is he isn't that strong yet. Both Wildbow and Lord have talked a lot about what are necessary power levels. Wildbow confirms that Saitama can kill the Endbringers and we know that Joe has had access to that level of power since the Lung fight the issue is the complete global disruption it would cause. In both the case of Saitama punching upwards (deflecting Boros) and Joe's motorcycle firing upwards at Lung out of atmosphere it disrupted the weather patterns at a global scale.

Flawed reasoning there. 1) One punch man's whole premise is "he's the strongest". Saitama would win every time, because the whole show revolves around him. 2) It's stated that, even when fighting Boros, Saitama wasn't giving it his all. Heck, he wasn't even straining himself. 3) Saitama has shonnen logic bs to deal with the colateral, Joe follows "real world" physics. He's been able to destroy an Endbringer for a while. It's the colateral that is the problem.

Tl;dr: he could destroy an Endbringer, but he'd also destroy Earth

1 Yes, I'm aware, but I was trying to give Watonian reasoning not Doyalist.
2 This is the feat Wildbow was using to measure whether Saitama could kill an Endbringer, and I was using it because the original post referenced OPM and because the FTL motorcycle ram had the same global contrail effect. It wasn't about whether Saitama was trying it was about a benchmark.
3 Yes, I agree, that was the entire point of my post regarding the sections involving the Endbringers and Coil. Both are beatable, but the collateral damage would be high, either in physcial damage or reputation.

Ah, gotcha! Well, on one hand, I'd argue that being known as "that guy who'll sell you into slavery" can't be very good for business. Mind you, it will definitely make him more intimidating, but even if the unwritten rules say "no killing", being sold into slavery isn't that much better. The Travellers are virtually unknown, they are also dragging and S-class threat with them, and said S-class had bone on a rampage on his city.

But yeah, I see where the misunderstanding came from. I agree with you :)

Hey dumb idea but could Joe make a Shingu out of Sprees clones? They kind of decay in minutes and dissolve into nothing after a while but I think that Joe could do something about that; not enough to prevent brain-death, very intentionally so, but enough to keep a bunch of tissue viable shouldn't be too hard for him.
"No shit. I can see the power readings." Aisha said. The entire workshop had been 'wired' for power. The qualifier was needed since the assembly didn't just cover electricity. There were conduits for high energy plasma and radiant emissions included. Basically, the full power of a star was at our disposal, and that was a lot of fucking power.
...Joe should totally use transparent plasma pipes to light up the Workshop purely because he can.
Kardashev Type II. That was a convenient label to assign to this kind of thing, but not something that was ever intended to actually happen. The threshold for Type II is power generation equaling the total output of a star, not actually capturing the total output of a star. Just like Type I wasn't about capturing all the solar energy that your planet receives. It's kind of important that your planet keeps getting solar energy, just like it's important for your star to not be completely cut off.
Well, I mean, I wouldn't say that it's absolutely vital; even if you wanted the biosphere/food-chain to continue you could easy make some space-habitats or simulations or something; the Earth would be much more important for geo-thermal energy or resource collection.
I shook my head. "Honestly? No clue. I kind of feel like I should be storing it, but the only mediums that could work on that scale would be antimatter or energon, and we'd be looking at billions of tons per day, minimum. Also, the flow is constant, so there's not much point saving it up unless we'll need even more power at some point in the future."
It's a consistent source of very specific resources; it would make sense to pre-process it into reasonably large stockpiles of more novel resources.
Which wasn't an easy task. The scale was just too much. The Dyson Sphere produced more power in a second than the world consumed in thirty years. What the hell did you do with that kind of energy? Even running industrial replicators nonstop wouldn't put a serious dent in the power flow, and that wasn't even getting into the question of what I was supposed to do with the materials being produced.
...Terraforming? Alternate worlds are known of due to Professor Haywire. It's probably a long-shot of a idea though.
There was a slight incline of the helm of the miniature Gun-EZ. "Burstone possesses theoretically infinite power storage capacity, but the instability inherent to any failure conditions renders it unsuitable for use at this scale. Production of Mantic Shards within the time suspension effect of the Noble Phantasm 'Mystic Forge' has enabled wider use of Mantic technology, but it is unlikely that complete Cores can be produced through such methods. A modification to the Workshops Mantic Circuits could allow the potential refinement of Shards and the formation of Cores."
"Burstone is a material inherent to Mantic technology. The unique composition required alchemical transmutation to produce, but has the potential to emerge naturally in the presence of unfocused Mantic energy." She explained. "Burstone possesses the unique ability to store an effectively unlimited amount of energy, releasing the stored energy at a steady rate proportional to the size of the sample. Specific Mantic principles can moderate the flow, facilitating faster discharge. However, in the event of structural failure, all energy contained within the sample of Burstone is immediately released. Depending on the amount of energy stored, this can be quite destructive."
One could probably use Annihilator effects to contain any damage from high-energy Burstone destabilization; just sort of pour any explosion into the void.

For that matter other All-Or-Nothing type powers, Clockblockers powers for instance, would presumably be good for emergency containment.

Some decent event-reversal powers would also help.
But that was a limit of the process, not the power. You couldn't bake a cake twice as fast by doubling the temperature, but with a big enough oven you could bake two cakes at once. Or ten, Or two hundred. Or several thousand. Frankly, I couldn't be sure how many Cores we'd be able to start charging until I saw the system in place. This was a new application of Mantic technology. A project as innovative as the photonic computing system.
Not to damage the metaphor or anything but, well, pancakes.
"Basically? Yeah." I admitted. "Sort of why I haven't used them like that. I mean, there's a limit on how quickly they can be charged, and anything I make isn't going to be easy to destroy, but yeah, no upper limit on how big the boom could get."

Tybalt craned his head to look at Survey's display screens, then turned to me and meowed a question while miming a firing stance. Expressions of concern were directed towards him from most of the Forge.

"Uh, technically, yes." I said. "The volume of Burstone isn't a factor in how much energy can be stored, so a bullet would work. With that kind of sensitivity, I'd definitely recommend gyrojet or maybe a bolter round, but yeah, a heavily charged Burstone sample could be set to fracture on impact. With enough time energizing it, you could get a bigger explosion than you'd see from a solid antimatter round."

Tybalt seemed happy with the confirmation, and thankfully asked no follow-up questions about the construction of bullets with megaton-plus explosive yields. I would have been shocked, but that wasn't the worst thing possible from Mantic tech. The way Cores interacted with their environment, remembering specific states, it had incredible potential for repair and restoration, but those kinds of forces could just as easily be turned towards calamitous applications.

And I was going to have that power at my fingertips. Honestly, if I didn't already have a running list of ways I could destroy the world it might have been concerning.
So I assume that that's going to be the projectile and/or power-source for any eventual Zion killing Megaproject? Possibly followed by reconstructing, or otherwise negating the destruction of, the Earth?
"That's excellent." I said. The music channel was a neat idea, particularly by the standards of what my duplicates got up to in their 20% time. As I understood it, most of the effort around the channel was devoted to keeping things within believable human limits. Considering Unnatural Skill with music could spill over into legitimately supernatural expressions, particularly when paired with other divine abilities, that was more of a challenge than you would expect. For instance, trying to play anything by Paganini without setting half the room on fire. "If it's successful we can look into expanding it, maybe release some extra tracks for the event itself."
I wonder if it would be possible to get some other people with sound-based powers to collaborate on some music at some point in the future.
Then there was the other set of letters. The ones from the rubbery men. Barely legible, and packaged with lumps of amber that absorbed and redistributed lifeforce. That carried the potential to reshape living things, not just on the physical level, but with respect to their place in the natural order. I may never have noticed if my duplicates didn't insist on overcharging the amber at the end of every duration. What would normally skim a tiny portion from each handling had been charged into a pulsing nexus of life energy.

It was something I could use. I had no specific training in the arts that shaped creatures, but my skills were broad enough and I had the benefit of both the Arcane Craft and my recent knowledge of Teigu. An art inherent to life and death, reshaping creatures and drawing out their power. It was no wonder it could cross over with the ways of the rubbery men. Something that could provide the extra edge in cracking the science, or improve my work on Tetra by that critical amount.
Should get some of that shit to Amy or Browbeat or someone.
And all of it echoed to my original trigger. The way the power of the place wormed its way into your mind. The way it treated the essence of life with callous disregard. The way it drew out horrors against nature as a matter of course. It was terrifying, but it was familiar. It was terrifying because it was familiar. I would never have carried this particular flavor of horror, but everything I would have been capable of would have run in direct parallel. A dark room full of insanity and monsters. The future that had been waiting for me with my original trigger.
Well that seems unnecessarily biased.
"Ion, I never believed you to be 'deficient'." I said clearly.

"I appreciate the sentimental intention of your statement, but the Fleet Intelligence has provided an assessment of the combat capabilities and resources of the operational members of your forces. Tactically speaking, I am deficient. Even with a complete refit and rebuild it would be more advantageous for my chassis to be operated by the Fleet Intelligence, either with his direct control ability or through the use of an installed drone program." She clearly spelled out her thoughts as she looked down on me. I just shook my head.

"Ion, your value is not limited to your combat ability." There was a slight shift from the Titan. "The Forge has plenty of offensive power. I mean, Tybalt alone…" I trailed off for a second before I caught myself. "You have value because you are a sapient being."

"I am unsure of your meaning." She stated plainly. Somehow it didn't seem like a philosophical approach would be the most beneficial way to tackle this. After a moment of consideration I came up with another approach.

"Diversity of thought allows greater adaptability in combat." I said. I could feel her acknowledge the statement, but remain silent as I continued. "All members of the Forge have varying approaches to problems and different ways of seeing the world, drawn from their own experiences. Your own experiences and perspectives will provide a unique insight that may prove beneficial. Because of that, it is important that you grow, adapt, and evaluate in your own way."

"I can see the merit in such an approach." She replied. I could tell she still didn't see where she would fit on a team of top tier capes, but she was at least considering the possibilities now.
I would perhaps have gone the route of life, and thus her, inherently justifying combat in the first place but whatever.
"One hundred and fifty minutes." I said, as the most reasonable compromise between the offended parties. Considering Garment didn't care, Fleet and the Matrix and built-in translation, and Tetra could memorize vocabulary at speeds rivaling most computers, this was mostly down to Tybalt and Aisha. Tybalt would happily sleep through the class and movie, but I could see the dread building on Aisha's face. A pleading look from me was enough to get her to at least tolerate Survey for the moment, though I didn't know how well that would last once the black and white foreign film started up. "Then the movie. No longer."
Joe should make a Viric translation guide so that Tybalt would be forced to learn this shit even while sleeping.
Honestly the most hilarious part of the scene there for me is that Aisha's qualification as a geek has truly been cemented in that scene. Rounding error jokes at the scale of stars is part and parcel with astronomy.

Also, Garment's power up certainly puts her in S-Class classification now. If she could, at any time, learn to generate light using the colors of the Prismatic Laboratory, we're talking high ratings of Shaker/Master here.
Based on precedent she'd be at least a Blaster/Shaker Eight.
That's a funny way of spelling Garment. She literally is building up to be his equal and opposite, always there and infinitely supporting and loving. Someone Joe can be honest with.

Disregard humanity embrace Gloves!
Sibling adoption at most; their respective natures just don't make anything between them analogous to anything else.
Consider, for a moment, just how fucking huge a Sol-class star is. 1.3 million and some odd Earths can fit into it. Sol is over 99.8% of the total mass in the overall solar system.

The Dyson Sphere gets to exist in a separate pocket dimension, because any other configuration needs ludicrous FTL and anti-gravity capabilities just to survive and traverse it. Better to just hand all that bs over to fiat and enjoy the power output.
The gravity is a output managed by the Dyson Sphere.
Heh... How long before Aisha swears at someone in fluent swedish :D
Negative a few months; she might not know Swedish but I'd put even odds on her knowing how to curse someone out in it.

@LordRoustabout
What instruments do Boundless Music play?

He definitely can't one punch Zion yet, as far as I'm aware the only things he has that are at all relevant for fighting Zion are his Spiral and Mantra abilities.
Joe has an awful lot of abilities relevant to fighting Zion, even if they're cogs in a complex plan. Outside Context Problem and Mental Fortress are basic defenses, and Countercraft is a single use but very general one. Efficiency and Do One Thing at a Time boost everything, including Entity killing. And so on.

...Joe should totally use transparent plasma pipes to light up the Workshop purely because he can.
He's just gained the ability to use natural sunlight instead.

@LordRoustabout
What instruments do Boundless Music play?
Instruments: Yes.

More seriously though, violin is guaranteed. Joe used to practice violin if I recall correctly, and it was due to a perceived lack of talent that he dropped it. As soon as he knew he'd be good though, his immediate first thought was "I should get my old violin."

The usual instruments are also likely. Piano, for one. Guitar, of multiple variants. And given that Boundless Music has been known to make theme songs, I imagine there's a few more instruments in there used for accompaniment, like percussion and such.

Needless to say however, Joe can pretty much use any instrument. Heck, I imagine he could improvise anything he touches into an instrument if need be, that's the unnatural skill after all. The only instruments Boundless Music probably won't use are the ones that could have people suspicious of him.

I'm wondering what next week's interlude is going to focus on. My guesses are Cauldron, one of the C53's, The New Wave Remnants, Dragon, the Dragonslayers, and someone from Lost Garden

Picture this; Joe is wearing a mask, or one of those steampunk-style head covers, and showing up as his YouTube alter-ego (because he wants to be there, and his YouTube self is actually kinda famous already, so that'd be an extra draw to the charity). He can't have a duplicate and him both show up, because in case of an emergency or something, or if the duplicates want to unmask (idk. Write-in reasoning here), it'd be kinda hard to explain where Joe's previously unknown twin came to be.

Good point - if handled right, Joe being revealed as the musician does at least partially address these issues. Not officially so, but showing up in a mask as himself, perhaps as part of doing a live performance of Garment's theme.

Survey could almost certainly catch anyone trying to ferret out the "real identity" of the musician if needed regardless, and it'd be a handy outlet for explaining future income, putting truth in the "helping a friend" (that he refuses to name) claim he gave his sister, etc.

Aisha is well adjusted to the craziness that is Celestial Forge.

Garment's element is very fitting when I think about it. Let there be Light.

The only instruments Boundless Music probably won't use are the ones that could have people suspicious of him.
Mastery at more than three unrelated instruments would itself be suspicious. High musical skill takes thousands of hours of practice to develop, and hours per week to maintain, per instrument. Musicians rarely do that for a large number of instruments.

Composers who were once musicians have a signature instrument from that. Composers frequently learn piano or another keyboard instrument because it's good for experimenting with harmonies, and some of them advance to virtuosic excellence for piano as well. But it's rare to take up a third. In the other direction, a player might a second instrument and then take up composing. Mastery of three, together with composition, is practically unheard-of. For four or more, the list is basically Paul McCartney and possibly a few Baroque-era wonders.

I'm not talking about basic proficiency here. A talented individual could learn to carry a tune on dozens of instruments. But the fine details, the small flaws that would pass beneath the conscious notice of an average listener but not of a fellow musician, require more than mere proficiency to get right. And while a musician Joe's age might have started early to put that work in for a single instrument, doing so for four or more would be entirely impractical. He might be able to get away with it without being outed as a once-in-a-century talent, were he not under close scrutiny from experts. As is? He has to limit himself.

So the question I asked isn't what instruments he could use. Rather, I want to know what instruments he's actually using.

Don't get me wrong, I love Garment as a character.

I just don't know if she is even capable of having a relationship or thinking about anything but her specialization.

Which is sad for Lily.

But the reason why I ship Faultline and Apeiron? They are basically the team parents of their teams. And I keep getting a feeling that if they got into a relationship?

It'd be a Brady Bunch situation.

One day when a lady met this fella~

I mean, the only problem I can see is Joe initially refusing to 'steal' the duplicate's credit. Easy solution, just talking it out would probably suffice. Or hey, even framing it as a favor, so that the duplicates can eventually go maskless to one event or other. It could be pretty fun.

And with that we end a very productive day for Team Celestial Forge.

I've updated the timeline and this is what was accomplished Monday April 25th, 2011.

Aisha, Tetra and Tybalt all pass the GED program in the computer simulation training room.
Joe introduces Aisha to the Laboriatorium.
Joe gets Titan robots with AI who he introduces to Fleet and starts to train and integrate them into the team.
Joe, Aisha and Tybalt train on riding the Wish-Zoid AI robots.
The team starts Aura training under Tybalt
Garment and Aisha train for their state driver's license in the Pilot Simulator.
Garment, Survey (as Delphine Mertens) and Fleet (as Jake Clark) go out of the workshop to meet Parain at her studio.
Garment and Survey meet Parain to warn of Elite recruitment. Parain suggests moving Garment's public showing on Weds from her shop to a larger venue. The team starts to put this plan into action.
Tetra and Aisha get Striker Units and magical familiar spirt forms, Mink for Tetra and Tapir for Aisha.
Joe realizes he has a unique "third eye" ability which allows him to sense mana flow around him.
Joe is able to pull some cultural information about the RWBY universe via the "Bigger on the Inside" technical manual.
Joe and the team watch as news of the existence of the Celestial Forge is released to the public by the PRT.
The workshop gets the "Key Link" upgrade where they can close the door and reopen it at any previously used location.
Joe follows the other members of the Forge on PHO.
Joe promises Tetra that tomorrow they will work with Garment to turn her into a Kamui.
Joe demonstrates a Vortex Grenade in the Shooting Range to show how random it is, even if it can kill an Endbringer.
Joe goes for a walk, placing door locations all around Brockton Bay and the surrounding area.
Joe stops by the gym. Doug points him towards a collection of electric appliances damaged by the Minovsky Particles and asks Joe to do what he can to repair them for the families from the area. Doug also gives him a heads up about volunteering for Garment's charity event on Wednesday.
Joe has a phone call with his sister at the end of which he achieves Mental Fortress.
Joe has a call with Lisa and he unlocks the sensors in her watch so they can get an idea of what Coil's contingency is
Joe tells Lisa he can see through manipulation
Joe receives an invitation to meet Uppercrust the next day
Joe can now fly and lock himself in 3D space from the Incredibly Craftsmanship perk
Joe has The Matrix repair two kitchen ranges and a Fridge for Doug at the Gym
The team prepares for Garment's Charity Event on Wednesday night
Joe gains the power output of a star via a Dyson Sphere and becomes a level two Kardashev Civilization
Joe gives The Matrix the go ahead to use all the power to make Mantic Cores
Joe introduces Garment to the Prismatic Laboratory and infuses her with the power of Light
Survey has the team learn conversational Swedish to appreciate her choice for movie night - Det sjunde inseglet, or The Seventh Seal (1957)

I wish I was that productive in real life.

Known events for Tuesday April 26th 2011:

Results from the test deployment of stealth drones are evaluated
The Spirtron Computer comes online and all training, simulation, and Bakuda Deadman breaking that waited for this moment kick into gear
Phone call with Lisa that Joee knows about
Phone call with Alec that Joe doesn't know about

Huh

I just realized that Accord totally jams to Boundless Music.
It's definitely his playlist. His BGM is pure "100% Boundless Ambience" while his meditation music is Boundless Music's cover of Clair De Lune. Accord's productivity is at an all time high. The only problem is that he can't get the title as Boundless Music's #1 Groupie because no matter what he does, a certain IronMan53 keeps taking the first post on all of Boundless Music's videos. It is almost as though IronMan53 has no need for sleep with how immediately he posts a comment before Accord, not that Accord can truly begrudge what is clearly a fellow aficionado of the arts.

Perhaps one day, they could be friends. But for now, It Is War.

Ah, yes. An ever-escalating series of events as Weld and Accord try to one-up each other. First, it is DDOS attacks and other distractions. Then it escalates to more thorough electronic warfare tactics. Then the Ambassadors try to kidnap Weld. Then the Wards, sleep-deprived, try to bury Accord alive. Eventually, proxies are brought in, and it escalates to guerilla warfare. Afterward, Brockton Bay, Boston, and all locations in between them are split between the Metal Men and the Fancy Fellowship. Everybody has since long forgotten that this was all because Weld kept getting the first post on music videos.
