see, there's only a few things IN ANIMA I really consider fetish fuel (as in, so fetishy that it overwhelms any other aspect of the character/object/event).
which is Mari's design (to which even me, mister cultural tolerance and pro-sexuality, just... where's our facepalm smiley? WHERE!?), and the mental part of what happened to Asuka ( ). Pretty much the rest of it seemed at the least neutral. though I wasn't paying THAT much attention to the plot summaries I admit, lol. I THINK I got most of it of it, but, yknow, I cant be 100% sure. Too busy squealing like Kensuke over Hikari's cool new Unit 02 derivative, or those awesome centaur shaped flight packs. or even the mecha design aspects of the Asuka thing.
Likewise. I like a lot of it, and it gives Eva the 'let's take this back to old fashioned Giant Robot-land' treatment, but then puts in loli-catgirl Mari, loli-bait Rei VII, etc, and I'm just left staring at it...

Anyhow, everyone thank @NotYourParents, @Zeratoth, since that checks the official unofficial 'Strype has to write an update!' box.

Preview? Sure!

It gave Asuka a momentary flashback to see such a downbeat and closed expression on Shinji's face as the elevator's doors opened. His look brightened up considerably when he snapped out of his fugue and saw it was her the elevator had stopped to admit. "Asuka," he smiled.

"Third Child," she replied coolly, flicking her eyes at the ceiling. 'We're still in the heart of NERV, Liebling, play it cool!' she tried to broadcast with her look.

She leaned against the far wall of the elevator to stare at him, the rubbery material of her plugsuit squeaking a bit as she folded her arms across her chest, giving herself a little lift. "I scored a 76.5% Synch Rate today. A good three points up from my last baseline," she bragged, just like she would have done in the past. 'Leaving aside all the oops-nearly-hit-100-or-worse craziness that came from our first contact with our mothers, that's nearly my all-time best while solo. You and I versus Gaghiel still tops that.' "How about you, Third?"

"Hmm?" His eyes snapped up to her face, leaving off the thorough look at her figure he'd been enjoying. "Oh, ah… 71.9%" he admitted, a bit of his darker expression returning.

"71.9%? Shinji, that's two points down from your last baseline. That's your first decrease in… nearly six months, yes?" 'Since we kissed, in fact. Since we've been together.'

He nodded. "It's… hard. To open up that much, after everything that's happened recently."

Oh no, Shinji seems to be feeling down :/

I wonder when/where this takes place. Certainly seems to have a dark-ish tone.
This is December 9th, 2015, the day after Misato's birthday dinner, a few days after the shopping trip. It will be referenced in dialogue later, but just not in this particular snippet.

And Shinji is feeling down because he just had another talk with his mother, someone who he is rather ambivalent about right now. He's very happy to learn she's alive, but now he knows what kind of person she is: Insane.

Seems to be in the present:

For some reason I was wondering if it was Pre/Post the big event, but I had forgotten spending time in the Entry Plug isn't exactly a happy time for him at the moment. Also if it was post big event I imagine tests and such wouldn't be happening.

Basically, I'm being an idiot and getting things confused. (It's been a tough morning) :p

Makes sense, poor Shinji :(

It does surprise me the drop is only 2%, tbh. Or that he can open up to her in order to synch at all. I predicted a worse hit..

In the meantime, I never got why people still need reminding of rules like that. like... instead of posting the link, just remind people google exists.

I suppose it depends of how much of a forumite you are. I've never been much of one (SV is the only board I've spent any meaningful amount of time at), so the obvious issue with @MoroseMobius's link didn't really jump at me at the time.

As for ANIMA... well, I'm pretty sure the opinion of everyone around here regarding that is pretty unanimous. :p

Hmm... The full name for the S2 engine/organ is Super Solenoid engine; a solenoid is basically a coil, or a spiral... Is the S2 engine based on Spiral Energy?:D
Pretty close: Spiral Energy and the S2 are both basically DNA references.

He's talking about A&T!Kaworu. Who sees other worlds. Who sees Shinji killing him in countless worlds. Who hence should also know it's Lilith down there.
Kaworu may ONLY see Shinji killing him. Alternately, if he does see Lilith, even after floating down in front of her in NGE, he still closely examined her for several seconds before he realized the difference. If he just sees the white giant, he may not realize the difference between the two.
The impression seemed to be that Kaworu saw glimpses of other timelines, not detailed understanding. Enough to get an impression of how things usually are, but it'll take some discussion and unpacking with Rei to bring out really useful info. Though I do wonder what Kaworu's response would be to Rei casually revealing that Lilith is hidden under NERV.
This. Kaworu see's a lot of different worlds, overlapped and blurrily. Picture it as watching every version of Eva at once, overlaid on one screen. Basics are easy to see, details hard. He very rarely gets anything like a clean look at one world for very long. And everything he has seen just confirms to him 'Yes, there's a Progenitor down there, and I reach it in a lot of worlds.'
Yes, technically Adam's down there, too (at least, as often as Gendo's down there), but does Rei know about that?
Rei is acutely aware of where her 'greater body' is. She spent the time Shinji and Asuka were brigged after Bardiel thinking about it, if you recall.
For that matter, has Gendo already fused Adam with his own hand at this point, or is Adam still in a block of bakelite in a safe deposit box or some such?
They never quite say when, in Series. I'm assuming he's done so by 'now'.
What IS the purpose of the stupid little boat, again?
To give Lilith something to stare at? Better question: Who the fark is manning it? Only Gendo, Kouzo, Ritsuko, and SEELE members cleared for the full secret are even allowed down there!

Gendo: "Sub-Commander, it's your turn to do the patrol again."

Fuyutsuki: "....I hate Boat Duty."

In this case, Shinji's much advanced skill at synchronizing and the knowledge that his mother is there are fighting with his being really reluctant to talk to her right now.
That is true. She may be insane, but compared to her husband or the rest of SEELE/her family? And besides, regardless of her sanity no one can really question, at least in this universe, that she does care for her son.
Hence the discomfort, yes. Shinji would really, really like some maternal cuddles... but it feels weird now, knowing that she was complicit (however reluctantly and belatedly against it) with Second Impact.

Ritsuko: "Sir, whenever I go down into Terminal Dogma, she won't stop pestering me about finding a nice young man to impregnate me. I can't work like this."

Gendo did not move a muscle as he simply stared at her from behind steepled hands. Fuyutsuki sighed.

Fuyutsuki: "Let me place a call to the JSSDF and see what I can arrange."

Well, I take the "skill", and what is being trained in synch-tests, simply as the ability to concentrate and keep the mind free of distractions, so that you can focus entirely on the EVA - or really, the soul inside. But if you are ambiguous about the soul, well, then I don't think all your skill will help. The trouble then arises not from outside distraction, after all, but from the very thing you're supposed to focus on.

But I suppose, yes - even despite all this, it is his long lost mother, after all.

Automated gunboat? It does seem like the logical conclusion.

Maybe the fishing's good down in Terminal Dogma. Gendo and Fuyutsuki take regular trips to see what they can catch.

I'd be so screwed if i was an Eva pilot. I'd be sat there trying to clear my mind and all of a sudden the drum fill to 'In The Air Tonight' would pop into my head and completely ruin it.

An Eva size fishing rod, plus an Eva size Picnic chair and basket :p.
Truly NERV had too much free time on their hands.

I think it's the basket (bait bucket?) that really does it for me. Whether it's a picnic basket or a bait bucket, what the heck is in there!?

You simply wouldn't believe what you can find swimming in that primordial soup.

Somehow I suspect anything caught from the LCL lake is best not described... and probably belongs in a Lovecraft story.
