Funnily enough, in the end, yes. If EVA-01 and 02 had defeated the MP EVAs, which after all were not just war engines but the very tools SEELE intended to use for Instrumentality...
it would have left SEELE still in control of their resources and the world governments, while NERV and everyone in it is still labeled genocidal madmen with the most dangerous weapons ever built.
Thus letting SEELE continue to try and set off 3rd Impact while NERV is operating without support.

In the same way that a drop of water "dies" when it falls into a lake, I suppose. It was all made up of the same stuff anyway and the separation was just the result of environmental conditions. Or at least that's how it is under Evangelion metaphysical rules.
Does the mechanism really matter? This seems very close to the naturalist fallacy to me, confusing is and ought. The single water drop does dissolve in the large sea. And inside the single-mind humanity, there would be no "I" anymore - "I" would hence be dead.

It would not have been the end of the fight, of course, but it would have been a crucial battle won. And once that is over (and assuming Gendo's 3I can also be avoided, of course), one can fight back, releasing information, contacting governments... that's the thing: I believe as well SEELE has its tentacles in every government of the world, but I doubt many people actually want to get tanged. So once the truth about SEELE's plan begins to circulate, they will have to become far more indirect and obscured in their manipulation of world governments...

Rei: "Now that we have decisively defeated the Commander and SEELE... we shall declare war on entropy!"

xxx

Kyoko and Sayaka sneezed simultaneously.

Kensuke: "...well that was weird."

Hmm... The full name for the S2 engine/organ is Super Solenoid engine; a solenoid is basically a coil, or a spiral... Is the S2 engine based on Spiral Energy?:D

Funnily enough, in the end, yes. If EVA-01 and 02 had defeated the MP EVAs, which after all were not just war engines but the very tools SEELE intended to use for Instrumentality...

Frankly, defeating one would have been enough to derail it -- they needed all nine MP EVAs for the ritual.

(Now picturing A&T Kaworu in S2-equipped Unit 03 with the Modified Positron Rifle and the world's biggest ghillie suit hiding somewhere near Tokyo-3 with a good all-round view. The MP EVAs descend to attack... and one immediately vanishes as its torso is cored dead-center by a particle beam, its no-longer-connected wings fluttering to the ground like falling maple seeds as the main body explodes...

Kaworu: "Please consider this to be my official notification of resignation from SEELE. Effective immediately.")

EDIT: Following that battle and the public release of details on SEELE and its plans, I suspect the Council would be desperately trying to avoid being lynched on the spot by their own secretaries and janitors. Break out the torches and pitchforks!

I always thought a better monument to humanity would be a AN EMPIRE OF A MILLION WORLDS-(ahem) sorry I mean, "humanity itself."
Normally I think you need take a step back and ask if there's a less loony toon solution to the problem, but you and I are saying the same things on this one. Maybe you could turn the volume down a tad, but we're on the same page. :)

I highly doubt that Yui wanted to derail Instrumentality into a salvageable situation or stop it , if she did she would have kill the MPE'S the moment the lance came into play.

They may have betrayed him in canon by sending him to merge with Lilith.
Actually why doesn't Kaworu know by now that he is detecting Lilith and not Adam?
Probably because he's just detecting "progenitor here!" and just assumes that Progenitor is Adam. After all, that's the "official" story - even those people who know there's an angel in Terminal Dogma think it's Adam (Misato, Kaji...). And that's what SEELE told Kaworu as well.

Quantum entangled!Kaworu should contact his other selves and build a council of Kaworus, much like Reed Richards.
Or contact fellow looper Homura and plan with her a way to achieve their goals with the least collateral damage.

It might have to do with the fact that Gendo fused his hand with Adam, something that may have diluted Adam's call in comparison to Lilith's, besides, he was probably working with the wrong information given that Kaji also mistook Lilith for Adam in episode 15, Kaworu probably didn't realised that he was walking into a trap until it was too late for him; finally, it's a bit of a case of him being outgambited since he must have thought that whatever was hidden beneath so many layers of protection should be Adam instead of a false lead.

Edit: Ninja'ed

But he should have learned the truth from his "entanglement" with his other selves since he learned about Shinji killing him, which is connected.

...heh. That's true. I mean, half the reason he let himself get killed by Shinji in canon is that he discovers that this isn't Adam, but Lilith. So if he sees that death, he should also see his reasoning...

Unless those are some very specific quanta he sees ;)

Rei knows it's Lilith. She even knows about the stupid little boat (though not its purpose).

Kaworu may ONLY see Shinji killing him. Alternately, if he does see Lilith, even after floating down in front of her in NGE, he still closely examined her for several seconds before he realized the difference. If he just sees the white giant, he may not realize the difference between the two.

What IS the purpose of the stupid little boat, again?

The impression seemed to be that Kaworu saw glimpses of other timelines, not detailed understanding. Enough to get an impression of how things usually are, but it'll take some discussion and unpacking with Rei to bring out really useful info. Though I do wonder what Kaworu's response would be to Rei casually revealing that Lilith is hidden under NERV.

"Wait, what?"

Yes, technically Adam's down there, too (at least, as often as Gendo's down there), but does Rei know about that?

For that matter, has Gendo already fused Adam with his own hand at this point, or is Adam still in a block of bakelite in a safe deposit box or some such?

Akagi: If I can keep the world from ending AND let Rei keep her pet fish, would you at least consider not murdering me for all I have done??
Asuka: Maybe.
Kaworu: Wait even you?!
Akagi: Quiet fish.

If anyone has not yet read this masterpiece and the godly version of Gendo contained within, you must. (Note: it contains yet another Evil Manga Kaworu [who is incredibly gay for Shinji].)
