Perhaps Lord Vader isn't quite the greatest Dad in existence, but in the end he gave his life to save his child. Something that any father worth their salt would do in that situation.

I don't see Gendo doing that in a million years.

Actually that's an interesting idea, what would Gendo Ikari and Darth Vader, two of the worst parents in history, make of each other?

Well, Vader is something of a blunt instrument. Some of the EU stuff tries to make him more cerebral, but nothing really pulls it off. Vader is the dragon, the enforcer.

Gendo is a plotter and a planner, YMMV WRT his success.

I give it at best an 80% chance that this ends in a Force choke.

15% chance of ending with a lightsaber.

5% chance that Gendo manages to get inside Vader's head and point him in a safe direction.
