Worst case, there's always fishing a couple of spares out of the Reiquarium.
Koyoko: Okay... I understand the part where the contact experiment went south, part of my soul ended up in Unit 2, the part still in my body committed suicide, traumatizing my daughter. But I'm a little fuzzy on how I went from a redheaded, German-American, adult to an albino, Japanese, teenager....

I suppose it depends on how hard Rei leans on a certain rainbow trout...
"I need your help to heal Dr. Sohryu and extract her soul from the core of Unit-02. Help me, and I might not kill you this week. Refuse, and you die here and now. What will it be, Adam-spawn?"
Kaworu: Are those my only options?

Kaworu: "....the f*** do I know about Lilim souls, Miss 'I AM THE MOTHER GODDESS!'? Call me when Ramiel has this problem."
Rei: ::Blank look:: Are you fucking with me, Rainbow Trout?

Kaworu: No, isn't that Kensuke's job?

Someone at Studio Gainax really has a thing for women in lab-coats.
As a scientist, I find it hard to disapprove. Sorry.

Hmm... I'd say either one D. Xanatos, or one S. Pentecost. The former, grand master of multi-layered scheming and manipulation, would just make him dance like a puppet; the latter would shame him, give him a fully deserved verbal slaughter and then proceed to fix NERV.
I'm with @gS49! All though there is a short, cheezey Eva/Pac Rim crossoveron FFnet where Pentecost tells Gendo to go shit in his hat.

How about no? How about you go poke a platypus?:rage:
Fun fact, in addition to being the only species of mammal to lay eggs, the male platypus is unique in its class for venomous spurs on its hind legs. This venom kills only in very rare circumstances. Instead its function seems only to be the causation of extreme and prolonged pain.

So poke the strange little marsupials with a long stick.:D

Kaworu: Are those my only options?
Rei: If I did not need your help, there would be one fewer. Choose now, or I will assume you have chosen the second.

He really shouldn't try stealing Rei's joke, especially since it isn't true for her. She might not kill him this week, but maiming has never been off the table...

Better yet. Wouldn't she notice the resemblance to Yui? They were colleagues and possibly friends, after all.

On the subject of getting Kyoko a body, hasn't it been established that the LCL doesn't matter, just the soul? Obviously you want ENOUGH LCL to make the body in question (for example, if you tang Aubrey Plaza, you're not gonna have enough LCL to untang Shaq), but beyond that it doesn't matter. Unit-01's plug was flushed post Zeruel and nothing came out but the plug suit. The same happened to Hikari in A&T and she reformed no problem.

No, the biggest obstacle to extracting Kyoko now is mending her soul. I do find it interesting that Mrs. Horaki wouldn't also cut and run, but that might have to do with being the base soul in a core, or requiring a more intensive process than "Alright, I'm leaving." Maybe Shinji will find out more once he sits in Unit-01.

Of course Yui is also a bad example here, since she willingly entered Unit-01's core. The answer to that could be "Nothing could pull me out besides Instrumentality, and even that would require me WANTING to leave." And we've all seen how that goes according to her vision.

It might not be factually possible to leave a core 'empty' once it has been imprited, nor to have a functional Evangelion with a blank core. Hence someone might have to take the places of whichever mother wants 'shore leave'.

While the mom conversation is being discussed, I have another question. Akagi went quiet there at the end, when Misato says that the pilots aren't the problem.

When the facts are laid out from her perspective, the biggest change was the operation run with the dummy plugs. I wonder what's going through her mind there at the end?

Idea for an AU story.
Instead of classical music like Beethoven, Shinji listens to (and is inspired by) Skillet or some other motivational/upbeat music.
For research, look up Feel Invincible, Hero, and Not Gonna Die.

I know I posted an idea for an omake months ago about Rei going to a concert with emotionally-deep music (so basically anything but pop or rap) and weeping openly because of the feedback from all the people.

I know it's a bit early, but I came up with an idea for how the 16th could be defeated without any losses on the pilots' side. In my fic series, Armisael could only "see" an Eva when within a certain distance; otherwise, it relied on sensing the A.T. Field and homing in on it. Shinji & Asuka (Rei was busy) kept turning their fields on and off, luring the Angel around (and pissing it off, meaning it got reckless), and then finally they lured it into crashing headlong into an electrical power station (complete with both of them shouting "Olé!" as they/their Evas turned off their fields and leaped out of the way at the last instant), fatally electrocuting the thing.

(Of course, I don't have anything for dealing with Arael, since my fic series saw it get cored by a starship-mounted particle beam cannon strong enough, at full charge, to one-shot a shielded Covenant cruiser, which I'm pretty sure the heroes don't have access to in this story...)

Might I suggest you gentlemen visit the Evangelion Ideas Thread? Merely a suggestion; I just think it may be less cluttery to post them there (as well).

Character Notes #77 - Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu
Ok, so, Asuka's Mother.

Canon Stuff We Know:
Dr. Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu was half-Japanese, half-German. She was married to Mr. [No Canon First Name] Langley, and was head scientist for Project E, NERV-03 (Berlin). In the aftermath of Yui Ikari's 'failed' Contact Experiment in late 2004, Kyoko and her team modify the Contact Experiment setup for Unit-02 with safeguards to prevent physical absorption. In early 2005, Kyoko attempts a Contact Experiment with Unit-02. Part of her mind and soul are pulled into the Core, and what's left in her body is insane, unable to even recognize Asuka as her daughter.

She is placed in a mental hospital, where after several months she hangs herself, along with the doll she'd crafted and treated as a beloved child. Asuka is the one who finds the body, as she was running to tell her Mama the good news that she'd been selected as Second Child, in the hopes that the news would get Mama to look at her again, not the stupid doll.

During this time, Mr. Langley had been sleeping with the female doctor assigned to Kyoko's case, at times literally in the room next door, where Asuka could hear it while she stared at her mother who no longer knew her. Needless to say, this was slightly traumatizing to Asuka. Mr. Langley and the doctor are married by the time of Kyoko's funeral. Asuka swears at her mother's graveside never to cry again, to grow up fast and be an adult who needs no one, and make people look at her.

Asuka's father and new step-mother make token efforts to get Asuka out of her withdrawn and angry state, including buying her childish toys like the stuffed monkey we see, but Asuka is not fooled, and they soon give up, basically turning her over to NERV to be raised as Unit-02's Pilot. Asuka maintains a superficially civil relationship with them (such as the phone call from her step-mother we see her take), but in reality is isolated and lonely, with no true affection or closeness to anyone since her Mama's death.

During SEELE's assault on NERV in End of Evangelion Misato orders Asuka, catatonic since her passive suicide attempt, dressed in a plugsuit and placed in Unit-02 and launched, judging that a safer place for her than laying in a hospital bed that SEELE is about to overrun. Unit-02 is launched, and ends up laying on the bottom of the Geofront lake, Asuka curled into a fetal ball in the Entry Plug. When the JSSDF detect her, and start dropping bombs on Unit-02 at the bottom of the lake, we get this:

Asuka:
...I'm alive...

(Shots of depth charges firing and exploding around EVA-02)

Asuka:
(Whispered at first then repeated growing louder and stronger)
I don't want to die... I don't want to die... I don't want to die...

(Another voice mixes with Asuka's)

I don't want to die... (You're still alive) I don't want to die... (You mustn't die yet) I don't want to die... (You must live) I don't want to die... (I won't let you die) I don't want to die... (Don't kill me) I don't want to die... (You're still alive) I don't want to die... (I won't let you die yet) I don't want to die... (You must keep living) I don't want to die... (Die for me!) I don't want to die... (You mustn't die yet!) I don't want to die... (Die!) I don't want to die... (You're alive!)
I don't want to die... I don't want to DIE!!

(Flashback to Asuka as a child with mother)

Child-Asuka:
Mama... So this is where you've been? Mama!

(Asuka clasps her mother's hand and EVA-02 awakens.)
Ass kicking of the JSSDF and MP Evas then ensues until her battery runs out.

Speculation, Conclusions, and Fanon:
Kyoko was one of the few experts in the world at the time of her death in the new field of Metaphysical Biology, the science of souls and Evas. In such a new, small field, she at the least knew of, and probably met personally with other experts like Yui, Gendo, and Professor Fuyutsuki. She could have been Yui's friend, rival, anything, we don't know. She in all likelihood did not know that Yui's 'death' was intentional, or that a soul could be trapped in an Eva Core through a Contact Experiment: we've seen nothing that establishes she had foreknowledge like Yui did, and Asuka and Unit-02 were entirely expendable extras irrelevant to SEELE or Gendo's plans for fighting the Angels and triggering their own Third Impact. So Kyoko was probably going in blind, and had no idea what the CE would do to her. I can't see her willingly tearing her soul in half and leaving the rest of herself to commit suicide and traumatize her daughter, anyway.

Since we hear two distinct voices in EoE, it appears that either by SEELE's salvaging technology, or by migration once her body died, both pieces of Kyoko's soul end up in the Core, and either remain split, or leave Kyoko with a divided personality, given that after ten years in the Core, she's still not speaking with one voice. So even if a means to extract her from the Core is possible, you're still left with a soul that is either in two pieces, or crazy, or both.

As someone said above, you've still got the problem of 'it might not be possible to get someone out of a Core and leave it empty', that doing so might render the Eva dead/non-functional, and my own assumption of 'you can't make an unwilling soul leave a Core short of destroying the entire Core'.

We also have very little on what kind of woman Kyoko was before her accident. Hints are that she was a driven scientist, willing to take high risks, and tended to let her job take priority over her family. Asuka's idealization of her Mama is partly faint childhood memories overlaid with 10 years of longing for affection, so we don't really know, though Kyoko seemed very happy to finally talk to her in EoE, and Kaworu says he was only able to puppet Unit-02 when he hijacks it because 'the soul in the Core has hidden itself away', implying Kyoko deeply withdrew once Asuka was no longer the Pilot.

Argh. I think I had more, but cannot recall what. I'll add it in later if it comes to me. For now, I hope this datadump helps clear things up.

Nah, he mostly still leaves that to the kids, but not without a properly rousing hot-blooded speech. Seeing Shinji go hot-blooded and full of determination (basically, him taking Pentecost as role model) might do funny things for Asuka. :D

Then again, Pentecost trying on a plugsuit for some reason might be a little distracting for poor Misato.

Here is a question for you all.

Considering how much of a dick Gendo is, who would you want to be his boss from hell? I myself have often pondered how long a man who merely thinks he's clever would last under Lord Vader's command...
Technically he already has that with Lorenz Kiel.

But considering what usually happens with Cerberus experiments, I go with the Illusive Man ;)

The Children end the story alive, safe and happy or riot.
That's canon. I mean, in a way, 3I was Shinji's and Rei's "riot" ;)

@Strypgia : Well, all I can say is... that makes sense. ;)
