Pen-Pen would be a better father than Gendo.

...Great, now I'm trying to think of "if any two members of Team Shepard could end up bonding with each of the Children, who?"
I think you'll enjoy this. Sadly dead, like all other stuff by Gregg.

Miranda can also bond with Shinji over bastard fathers.

Jack of course would fit right in. Speaking of terrible things happening at age 4... yeah, that was when Cerberus abducted her.
Actually, she was swindled away from her mother when she was a baby, as the final excerpt here says.

Well, at least in such a scenario we can be pretty sure who killed Kaji.

Who I imagined paled around with Garrus before, because who better to investigate mysteries with than the Batturian?

I'm with @gS49! All though there is a short, cheezey Eva/Pac Rim crossoveron FFnet where Pentecost tells Gendo to go shit in his hat.

Fun fact, in addition to being the only species of mammal to lay eggs, the male platypus is unique in its class for venomous spurs on its hind legs. This venom kills only in very rare circumstances. Instead its function seems only to be the causation of extreme and prolonged pain.

So poke the strange little marsupials with a long stick.:D

The 4 species of Echindna are also mammals that lays eggs. Mammals that lay eggs are monotremes not marsupials.

That was why I specified the platypus, actually. Since "go bother a black mamba", or "go cuddle a cobra" both could be seen as harboring certain (unintended) intent.

2165.

Jack is 24 in ME2 (2185), so born in 2161 (fun fact: And hence of one age with Tali and Kolyat)

So in 2165 she was... 4.

Though I must admit I forgot the source for Jack's age.
Huh. Probably an oversight by the person who wrote that Shadow Broker dossier that they used 'infant' to describe her.

I must say I'm quite curious as to how the conversation between Shinji and Yui will go. More specifically, what lies she'll tell him (if they're not interrupted by shutdown of the test because of synch rate shenanigans).

It does make Jack and Tali the closest in age to the Children, in any case. And Jack a kind of child soldier as well....

That very much depends on what interpretation of Yui Stryp will follow with. He seems to be somewhat charitable in that regard...

Until the Angels are defeated, Yui will probably not want Shinji to know that her absorption by the Eva was very much planned and that she intends to never come back out again.

That is, unless what she told Shinji in EoE about aiming to be an eternal monument to humanity is somehow a lie.

If anything, the way the conversations work might actually make it harder for her to hide any deception depending on if she can exclude certain impressions from being shared with Shinji. It'll only tip him off that something's not right instead of getting any specifics, of course.

Granted, the series says very little about Yui's motivations, so authors are free to do whatever they want.

Asuka: Rei... what is that?
Rei: My pet platypus
Asuka: O....K
Rei: I named him Larry Perry
FTFY. :)

To some extent that particular goal was motivated by the fact Yui believed stopping SEELE and Third Impact was impossible, and being Humanity's tombstone was the best she could do. At least, that's what I got from her conversation with Fuyutsuki in ep 21.
Well, going by the conversations so far, I don't think Yui could even articulate any of that one way or the other.
The conversations have been somewhat blurred by 'You're not my mommy!' and 'Kyoko is crazy/in pieces', respectively.

But considering what usually happens with Cerberus experiments, I go with the Illusive Man ;)

So basically NERV would be ANOTHER Taco Bell cart ready to go on a rampage and kill (nearly) all the personell involved with it.

...My imagination ended up with Legion & Samara for Rei, Grunt & Jack for Asuka, and... hm... Garrus and Jacob, maybe, for Shinji? (You know either, or both, of them would be much more of a dad to Shinji than his actual father...)

No, Grunt and Legion for Rei and Wrex (when they meet him again) for Asuka.

Yes. Even though I don't get the Taco Bell cart reference...

No, Grunt and Legion for Rei and Wrex (when they meet him again) for Asuka.
That makes the age difference even worse, what with Wrex probably being over a millenium old...

And Rei with Legion (whose programs are around 300 years old) isn't? Wrex would be the PERFECT father figure for Asuka. I can think of no better person for teaching how to effectively harness anger.

I think we have actually no idea if the geth create new runtimes or not. Still, point, I guess. Even though 300 years is still a lower age than Samara and Wrex by some centuries....

Asuka: "Hey, Wrex, how about we press-gang Doctor Bitchface into building a new Evangelion to house your soul?"

Wrex: "Living forever as a giant badass cyborg? Where do I sign up?"

Asuka: Biotic Charge capable Evangelion get!
[nerd hat]Don't krogan live until they're killed anyway? And biotic maneouvres, like charge, are dependent on the eezo nodules in the biotics' body, so definitely a body, not a soul thing[/nerd hat] :p

If an Eva is built pretty much from scratch, having eezo nodes built-in from the start wouldn't be especially challenging. :p

Check out Alpha and Omega for Leviathans vs post 3I Unit-1 and Angel-Shinji

In Mass Effect 3, you enter the Geth Consensus and see a geth unit pick up the sniper rifle you can give Legion in ME2. It is very heavily implied that at least some of his runtimes fought in the Morning War.
