WOAHWOAHWOAH! I'm agreeing with you here, no need for hostility!

I wonder, what would it take for rei to start viewing the fact that her soul and memories can be slotted into clone bodies if she dies less as "I am replaceable." and more "I have backups, death is an inconvenience." since my understanding is that it works a lot like resleeving from backup in eclipse phase, only she explicitly has the same soul.

They're a lot less reliable or continuous than ep style backups. So, while they might be better than death, they're not something to comfortably rely on.

Yeah, they are more on the jarring end of transhumanism, to be sure. But they're still better than the alternative; and given a Kobayashi Maru scenario, Rei just might choose that option.

true, but viewing the reiquarium as a store of spare bodies rather than replacements would put rei in a better headspace. She views herself as the latest in a line of replaceable clones, it would be better if she viewed herself as one person who suffers memory issues from severe trauma.

it's not like it would make her all that more willing to die. She treasures the memories she would lose and knows dying would put her loved ones at risk. It would also help the other pilots if rei does die in battle. it would go smoother for her backup if all involved saw her as the same person in a new body and missing some memories. Though she might have some behavioral shifts simply because the new body might have different hormonal levels from not having gone through years of heavy medication.

That could lead to some interesting and potential dark scenarios:

Misato: 5 packs of beer? You are gonna have such a hangover tomorrow.
Rei: [pulls out a pistol] No I won't.

There was actually a series of worm snips that took that route. Taylor triggered with the power to make a clone of herself and transfer to it on death, so she ended up killing her self to deal with rather trivial things, like paperwork.

Did Kenny ever suicide knowing he'd just be back next episode? Genuinely asking, I'm not as well-versed in South Park as I'd like to be.

Well, we've kind of shot past that post here!
Rei and Asuka are still unlikely to kiss here either. I'm not writing an OT3 here. Though it is strongly tempting at times.
Hikari's role in A&T is going to be different than 'PTSD victim', suffice to say.

...

...

WELL, IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO AND THINGS HAVE CHANGED!

*waves OT3 flag*

Pssh, shipwhore.

I can think of... three, maybe four pairings in all of the fiction I've consumed that I consider an OTP.
