Actually that math gets very simple by eliminating one variable. You're right in so far as they would all rally and fight like the Dickens, but what if Shinji or Asuka was in mortal danger? How far would Rei go in that case? To her calculus, Shinji+Rei-Asuka is unacceptable. Similarly Asuka+Rei-Shinji is a non-starter. But Shinji+Asuka-Rei... Not ideal on many levels, but orders of magnitude better than options A or B.

Begone, doomsayer! This is WAFF!

Math does apply to relationshionships only in as a subdiscipline of chemistry and biology, if I may say so.
Reward mechanisms. Serotonin, endorphines, et cetera.

Otherwise, BURN, HERETIC, AxSxR MUST HAPPEN!!!

To be more precise, in this goddamn story!

In other news: I've cooked myself some nicely seasoned, tenderized chicken breast fillet, with red sauce.
It is to die for.

I can actually see this happen... believe it or not. Take a moment to think, If placed in a no-win scenario where she must save herself or Asuka/ and or Shinji, what would be the right choice? If we think for a moment, a very legendary film placed a equally logic-minded character in a similar dilemma...

Spock: Ship... out of danger?
Kirk: Yes...
Spock: Don't grieve... Admiral... its logical. The needs of the many... outweigh...
Kirk: The needs of the few...
Spock: Or the one... I never took... the Kobayashi Maru Test... until now. What did you think of my solution?
Kirk: Spock...
Spock: I have been... and always shall be... your friend. Live long, and prosper.

So, while it might bring tears if it were to happen... remember, "Not all tears are evil..."

That is not at all what Englanderish is upset about. It's the incestuous tones because Rei shares Shinji's DNA as a construct based off Yui.

And, again and again, I call bullshit!
How much of Yui's DNA is there in Rei? 50%? 99,99%?
Appearances can be based on as little as 1% of DNA.
This. Is. Not. Incest.

Genetics doesn't work that way, I've said it before and I say it again!
Learn your science, people!

You are attempting to reason someone out of an emotional reaction (of a category that tends to be fairly deeply visceral, at that). That seldom ends well.

And I'll shut up now, since I should go to bed anyway.

He did call himself a chemist. Hard science guys, like me, are cold and rational people.

Notice that I didn't say "like me and him".

How about... we let Stryp do his story and we see what he does? He's done well so far *points to Akagi*... I'm sure even if we don't get the OT3 the story will be fine and if you need a OT3 you can read ... Doing it Right This Time.

All in all I'd rather not see a debate occur over something so trivial. It's a fanfiction - not a quest.

Wint's comment was in reference to this:
"Never stick your dick in a pudding. It might still be good pudding and you can spend all afternoon explaining that; but I don't want it because you stuck your dick in it."
where the 'dick' is the incest component.

Given the writers of Evangelion's... tenuous understanding of genetics, it's pretty unlikely Rei has minimal Yui DNA.

And then there's the fact that so much about Rei is built around Oedipal themes and the like. It's most likely the creators designed Rei to be about 50/50. And that would be incest. Even if I generously drop it to 25% Yui that's still a close relation. You are assuming that Rei has a tiny percentage with absolutely no basis. And given the fuck-uppery of certain individuals running certain aspects of Rei's creation and life there is a much greater foundation for the case of Rei having a larger proportion of Yui's DNA.

How's that for cold rationality?

I think that even if Anno himself said that Rei has enough of Yui's DNA to be Shinji's half-sister, shippers won't give a damn.

Englanderish, unless people specify their gender in their profile, I'm calling them 'he'.

Even if that's true, that's quite fine, scientifically speaking.

Actually, you know what?
Screw this. Even if Shinji would be boning a clone of his own mother, I'll be happy for him.

It doesn't matter where she came from. What matters is what and who she is.
You prudes, try and remove those ten-feet poles that are stuck up your various orifices.

I have no problem with Shinji doing the most debauched shit imaginable with, say, Asuka or Hikari (in theory - not a great deal of basis for it from a story perspective tho so I'd probably go 'huh?' upon the fact). So I don't think you've got the right word...
Don't get so worked up, when you reach ad Hominem fallacies it means you have nothing left to resort to.

You are possibly correct -- English is not my mother language.

As far as I'm concerned, what two or more people of consenting age (which is 13 in Japan, I think) get up to in private is between them and their conscience, even if they are related.

Now may I suggest we talk about something less controversial before harsh words are exchanged? I'm in no mood for that sort of thing right now.
