I've gotten Shinji, Asuka, and Rei three drinks away from trying to figure out how to work a three-way wedding, had people who were baying for Ritsuko's head on a pike genuinely feeling sorry for her fall and happy at the beginnings of her possible redemption, and made it all convincing and authentic. I hope you all like what I've got planned, whichever way your thoughts on Kaworu go.

I could say more on the topic, but that runs into spoilers fast. For now, I'll just say that as much as Rei is also Lilith, Kaworu is also Tabris/Adam. This starts to feel like the old Byzantine debates about the nature of Christ, but keep in mind the relationships there.

Not very, but if Kensuke had made the effort, Rei could have very quickly have figured out what he was asking. And likely been very confused that he was being honest. She didn't consider herself 'real' enough yet to be worth being an object of love herself. But if Kensuke had made it clear he thought she was, Rei would have been not unhappy to explore that with him, even if they both knew it might not be long-term. Rei has very fond thoughts of Kensuke right now for how restrained he was during their 'experiments', and how he let her set the pace and do only what she was looking for at the time. So she is very happy now to see him both dating two girls who appear to really like him, and that his social status has risen accordingly from 'that weird military otaku' to 'hot date catch and gentleman'.

You'd find that Tabris has a fully developed S2 Organ where his tonsils should be, and that Rei II does not. Lilith's S2 Organ-equivalent (She not being Adamite) is still down in her major body in Terminal Dogma. As a result, there's a far lower limit on what Rei II can do AT-Field Haxx-wise unless she's in sight of her major body. That limit is a lot higher than it used to be (and where Gendo still thinks it is), thanks to Rei smashing through a lot of her internal seals when she told Zeruel he was going down, but still much lower than Tabris unleashed.

sounds to me like its close enough for a "power of love!" scene to give Rei a win.

Kaworu wiped at the sweat on his forehead, his eyes still closed and a sublime smile on his face. He took a deep breath before opening his eyes. "Thank you, Shinji-kun. That was… most pleasant."

"Y-you're welcome, Kaworu-kun," Shinji blushed a bit. "I've n-never done that with anyone before but Asuka."

"That was better than I'd hoped. I would like to do this with you more often," the Fifth Child said almost breathily.

"I… I th-think Asuka would say that's her job. She might get upset at you trying to take that from her," Shinji said carefully.

Kaworu considered this. "Maybe we could do it while she watches? Give her a chance to rest between rounds?"

"What about me?"

Kaworu smiled. "You don't need to rest, Shinji-kun! You have amazing stamina for this!"

The praise only made Shinji blush further.

I'll add it to the 'only in my head' list of 'ideas for the next fic', right after 'Do an OT3 from the start, earlier PoD' and 'Rei is stuck in a Homura-style loop from 'waking up on the gurney right before Sachiel' to 'shortly after all the Angels have been defeated', is in love with both Shinji and Asuka, but can't find a way out of the loop no matter what she does'.

Oh, it was a bit like that... for the first few dozen loops. Then the repeated, inescapable trauma of watching her loved ones die over and over and over and over no matter what she does starts to wear away at her. Resist, go along with the Scenario, betray Gendo, fight alongside Shinji and Asuka through to ultimate victory... nothing matters, nothing changes. No matter what she chooses, something always ends up killing her and them before midnight on March 31st, 2016, and she just wakes up on the gurney again, Shinji staring at her and Gendo telling him to Pilot or Rei will be forced to.

Now, Rei's been trapped endlessly fighting the Angel War and watching everyone she's ever cared about die a score of different ways... and she's reaching the end of her rope. The last several loops, she's even started avoiding getting into any kind of relationship with them anymore, just because it hurts too much knowing that it will just break her heart to see them die again.

I dread what Rei might do if the story ever reached its equivalent of Rebellion...

Hadn't realized that event had far reaching consequences.... When you say "Tabris unleashed," are you saying that the Rainbow Trout has to "turn on" his power? Put another way, with respect to powers, is this a Clark Kent/Superman model or more ofa Prince Adam/He-Man?

Heck if I know. I didn't even make it up. I'd have to dig into the background stuff for where I found it, but Tabris ' Core/S2 Organ are canonically located in his throat. I suppose that's why he died when Unit-01... crushed that part.

I agree with Aleph, and consider Rebellion an unnecessary and unwelcome coda to the perfectly satisfactory end of PMMM, and so have never watched it, nor do I plan to.

That having been said... Rei isn't likely to take that path.

The EvaGeeks wiki claims it's impossible to know if he has one, so now I'm curious. Sounds like it'd be a bit of a bother for you to find, though.
 
I believe Shaft has announced a continuation for Madoka during their anniversary celebrations and their Madoka/Monogatari display.
 
Am I the only way who is NOT hoping for OT3? We already got "Doing It Right This Time" for that. I kinda what to leave it pure Asuka/Shinji and hook up Rei with Kensuke.

He's wondering the same thing. How much of Rei is the teenage girl, and how much is Lilith, the immortal, billions-year old Progenitor? How much of Kaworu is Tabris, or Adam? Kaworu doesn't want to be SEELE's puppet, or destroy the world. Tabris doesn't either... but can't stop feeling the Call every second of his existence. Adam... who knows? Hypostatic Union is a bitch.
