This is why I'd have to disagree with that thread's conclusion that Asuka would have panicked or slapped Shinji if he'd taken the hint and tried to make a move on her. Given how hard Shinji's failure to act hit her, she really wanted him to try that night. The fact that he didn't hurt her more than she expected. Asuka may or may not be a prude/scared, inexperienced girl at heart, but she wanted Shinji to try and make her feel desirable. I don't think she'd have panicked, not least because she was the one 'initiating' things by making her request-hint, and one of the things she 'liked' about Shinji in that context is (for all that she loudly proclaimed it in public) she knew he wasn't a hentai-boy that would jump all over her. He was attractive to her, and low-threat, essentially. Safe.
Hmm, sounds like she was sabotaging herself in her quest to get Shinji to make a move on her, if that's what was really going on. Shinji likely interpreted her challenge as "Stay out, OR ELSE!" The "Walls of Jericho reference probably went straight over his head at 30,000 feet. If Asuka's "Walls of Jericho" speech was a bluff she wanted Shinji to call, she was reaching too far, too fast. Shinji just isn't the kinda guy to force himself on a girl, if a girl says "STAY OUT OF MY ROOM!" he's gonna stay out of the room. Way too much tsun-tsun for Shinji to overcome at that point in their relationship. Whatever other hints she had dropped before then also overshot the mark or just bounced off Shinji's ultra-dense head. She needed to ease him into it, instead of slamming an iron door on him, she should've set up a proverbial obstacle course for him to run, some objective for him to fulfill to gain entry. The way she did it in canon... despite the cleavage shot, that was essentially slamming the door in Shinji's face. Way too subtle for someone who'd yet to even reach First Base
