Shinji: nono you don't hold your breath yourself. You need to get someone else to do that or it won't work.

That will be my headcanon. As such, it will remain in motion until such time as it is overridden by a "slightly blown up" outside force, which I rather suspect will happen, but what the hey. :)

Gendo wouldn't care. Regardless of whether he pulls off The Scenario, or whether SEELE gets its way, Rei isn't going to exist in recognizable form long enough for things like that to matter. From his point of view, the only reason she needs legal documentation is if/when she goes to school. And he basically owns that school as far as I can determine, or he wouldn't be able to arrange for all his pilot candidates to be grouped in one class. If he wants a student with irregular documentation to be accepted without complaint, that's what's going to happen.

Not that it would cost him anything to make up a fake birthday for her, or use the date of Rei I's first decanting or whatever. But the cost of not doing so is, likewise, nothing. And it seems like Gendo has a history of just plain failing/refusing/ignoring anything that doesn't directly profit him, unless someone with the power to coerce him shows up and forces him to comply.

Hmm. As murky as the NGE timeline is, AFAIK it ends around New Year, which means we wouldn't get to see this version of Rei's birthday in-story, unless Armisael takes a wrong turn at Albuquerque and/or weeding out SEELE takes half a year. Maybe a Distant Finale?

Yes, EoE is on December 31st, 2015 in canon. But I think Stryp has decided that the events in December are way too close together, and hence A&T will shoot into 2016.
 
This is correct, though not as much as I thought when I planned it. With just Armisael & Tabris left to show, and SEELE already chomping at the bit even more than canon, things won't likely make it as far into spring of 2016 as I expected back when planning.
