"Big, antimagic beam?" Kazumi's voice cuts through the telepathic chatter. "That sounds like-"

"Hijiri's gone," Niko snaps, voice cold. "Then-"

"I suppose we've found our culprit," Saki concludes grimly. "We're on our way."
Okay, these breaks, and the particularly the information they remove, worry me. It's constructed as though each follows from the other, but given the information we have that reads weirdly.

According to Oriko, Hijiri's power would have been the same as canon. That should be true to about Thrusday or Friday, when her power stopped working.

Hijiri having different powers fits with a recent contract fits with her stumbling during the run, but it doesn't fit with Kazumi recognizing her powers, certainly not if we're the instigator, since she'd likely have have contracted between Friday and Monday. (Let's say Sunday if we're directly responsible since that's when we talked to the Saints.) I can't remember when Oriko last talked to us about Asunaro before losing her powers, but there shouldn't be much extension to that.

I think it's worth considering something being up.

We can't really ask her to drop the field until Niko gets here. I mean, it doesn't matter. If she drops it, we still can't enter its range without danger of her reactivating it and getting us with it.
Sayaka has Antimagic if you want to shut it down manually.

Hijiri is being... super fucking weird in this timeline. The best thing I can think of to explain her actions and her powers is that she doesn't want to deal with magic, but then why the fuck did she contract?
Well... Maybe she wished to undo all magic, or some such.

If magic wasn't a thing, Niko wouldn't have left to go have fun in the super cool magic world, and Hijiri wouldn't have been made... which would make the Wish somewhat suicidal.

But of course, she doesn't have the Potential to erase all magic from the universe.

I don't think hysterical is quite the right word for it but eh-

[x] Redshirt Army

"Distraught" ?

So...

Sounds like what?

And yeah, this bit, plus potential memory shenanigans, concern me.

Editing vote to address both.

[x] Telepathy the group. Suspect captured. It looks like Hijiri, she's very distraught. You'll try to calm her down.
-[x] Kazumi recognized the beams she was using?

[X] Be empathetic Sabrina, if confused by her choice of actions.
-[X] Promise Hijiri you won't hurt her. Ask her to drop the memory field so you can discuss this without shouting. Let her calm down.
--[X] Ask her to willingly turn over what she took. Whatever she thinks she needs it for, there's certainly a better solution than theft.

[X] Acknowledge everyone's good work. Nod to Sayaka.
-[X] Offer Grief cleansing all around, including Hijiri. If she hasn't yet dropped the interference field, ask her to so you can help her.

[X] Wait for the others to get here. If Hijiri is cooperating thus far ask Kazumi and the Pleides to go easy on her. Step aside for now and allow the Pleides to take over.

Given how weird Hijiri's behaviour is and Asunaro's general whackiness I've more then half a mind to ask Sayaka to put out one of Kirika's antimagic blasts on general principle in case of illusions/mind magic bullshit/who knows what.

So it's come to my attention that I missed out a piece of information, and I've edited it as follows.
"Big, antimagic beam? That sounds like-" Kazumi's voice cuts through the telepathic chatter. "Limiti Esterni?"
S
"Hijiri's gone," Niko snaps, voice cold. "Then-"

"I suppose we've found our culprit," Saki concludes grimly. "We're on our way."

Specifically, sounds like a move name in the style of the Pleiades, meaning that Hijiri very likely has the same "all your powers combined" connections ability as in PMKM canon and copied one of their antimagic moves. (Umika can do metamagic stuff with her power, so it's likely copied from her.)

That changes things up: with canon Hijiri's powers, we need to be extra careful of mind affecting bullshit among other things. Getting Sayaka to pulse antimagic is an increasingly appealing idea.

Googling and a quick skim over things it shows it's a canonical ability, and is Kazumi's typical finishing move.

With that taken into account, it looks like Hijiri has made her canon wish.

And we know what kind of mindset she has if she's made that wish.

Suddenly, I'm feeling a hell of a lot more paranoid about trusting her.

So, until the current plans take this into account, I am retracting my vote.

Confirm, it's Kazumi's move.

Now, now...

WHAT DOES IT MEAN

Although, wasn't Limiti Esterni the clone Kazumi's finisher? I thought clone!Kazumi had magic that was different than the original due to how she was created (I know her Human!MG form has a totally different moveset but that is neither here nor there). Although it might be a team attack of the Saints since they were weirdly good at those.

@Redshirt Army I think Hijiri's still unaware of the Kures, and that we should use that to our advantage. If Kazumi's picking up everyone on the way, I think she should drop O & K some distance away. So in case it is a trap to get all the saints + us in an AoE mind affecting magic, Kirika can still counteract it.

Actually...

[] Telepathy Saki, ask her to get back up to altitude.

  • We don't want to crowd Kanna when she's freaking out like this.
  • It'll make sure we have someone in place to pursue if Kanna makes another run for it.
  • It means we don't have everyone standing around like chickens if Kanna goes for an AoE attack.

Nah. Kazumi wouldn't be okay with no-one from her group keeping an eye on things. Since Sayaka is needed for antimagic and Mami can't fly, the only one who can leave to provide aerial oversight is us.

For now...

[X] Be empathetic Sabrina.
-[X] Promise Hijiri you won't hurt her. Give her enough time and space to calm down.

[X] Acknowledge everyone's good work. Nod to Sayaka.
-[X] Make sure your group doesn't look threatening.

[X] Offer Grief cleansing all around, including Hijiri.

[X] Introductions.
-[X] Be happy about meeting Hijiri. Hint that you wanted to talk to her, and about your similar origins.

[X] Firmer tone:
-[X] You regret what's happened. Reassure her you can talk things through. It'll be OK.
-[X] Try to get her side of things. She hasn't hurt anybody. Be understanding.
-[X] Explain how her actions hurt Niko.

I'd like to do this, leave contacting the Pleiades to Saki/Mami, and next vote report progress to Niko/Kazumi, and address the theft.
We shouldn't give her "space" to calm down. That would give her an opening to escape. Also, we need to get that memory device off of her ASAP. The only reason she was even caught in the first place is because she panicked and revealed herself by opening fire on us. She won't make the same mistake twice. And there's nothing stopping her from using her antimagic to escape again.

150 words.

She is bound twice over and everyone around would have to be handed the idiot ball to allow Hijiri to escape now. It's not happening.

Isn't the memory modifying widget kind of a literal idiot ball tho? :V

If she tries to escape again, we can catch her again. She knows just as well as we do that it'd be trivial. Even more, now that we know who we're looking for, we have enough science to hunt her literally to the ends of the earth, and - thanks to the Pleiades' powers - she understands that we have those capabilities. She's not going anywhere because there's no use. She's done and she knows it. That's why she's freaking out so much. And that is why we need to give her space. If we keep pushing we're going to get exactly jack and shit out of her. We know from canon that she has the potential to turn into someone that will never stop trying to ruin her enemies. I'd prefer to avoid that scenario. And, even more luck, not pushing her is also the recommended-by-experts method for quickly and efficiently learning what caused this whole thing in the first place!
