Hmm... that memory field sounds interesting. Yeah it's something that could confound a building inspector... but it also sounds like the sort of thing that could undo an infobomb. Might make for a way to help safely break things to our friends if we can secure it.

Honestly, I kinda wonder if that wasn't the original intent. A bunch of traumatized girls might have decided to wipe their memory of what they've done, including what the device was meant for in the first place. It would certainly help fit the timeline together if Asuka Yuuri witched out and then the girls decided to remove their memories of her to protect themselves.

... No evidence for that though.

For now, here's a first iteration vote of my own construction.

[X] Keep the story straight. Relay as though we're covering for Oriko.
-[X] Yuuri, her powers fit the attack.
-[X] 'Souju'. Not the likely culprit.
[X] Privately, tell Niko that we're aware of another possible culprit who appears to a history with Niko, named Kanna Hijiri. Ask for her okay to talk about her.

//Best not to talk too much about the past if we're pretending to cover for a precog who only sees the future. (which is... very silly, but here we are. *sigh*)

[X] Discuss the Memory Field's details, and how to counter it.
-[X] personally broach the idea of Kirkia's antimagic but keep things open.
[X] Rig up tests to look for traces of various possible methods that might have induced sleep.

[X] Searching
-[X] re-construct your detection enhancing Ioun stone for Kazumi to copy.
-[X] Sayaka brigade?

Except we're saying that because we're not bringing up Oriko. Look at the vote that got us hear and the lead in to that line:

"I..." you hesitate. "I know a few things, and..." You glance at Oriko. You don't know how to tactually break it that she's a seer with malfunctioning powers.

"Oh?" Saki asks. "In what way?"

"I know our potential enemies here," you say simply. "I'm not a seer, but... think of it as something like clairvoyance?"

Inserted tally

Got rid of the line mentioning Oriko.

Memory field countermeasures better done after we get the info from Niko.

  • [X] Get a telepathic okay from Niko to talk about Hijiri. Try to think exclusively about the one we gave the seed to, rather than the one sitting in front of us, in case we have an evil clone situation.

A memory editor with a "several meter" range is basically useless and we can ignore it. Unless Firn has a very different idea of what "several meters" is than we do, defeating it is as simple as not standing in a single hugpile the whole time. Maintaining a minimum separation-between-furthest-pair will ensure that some people will remain outside the area of effect and be unaffected. Unless, of course, our opponent has super-science and has already improved the performance of the device by an OOM or more.

[x] Cleansing, everyone!
-[x] Get it copied.

[x] Privately tell Kirika to start antimagicking herself and Oriko.

[x] Explain the Soujus and Anri.

[x] Privately explain Kanna to Niko. Be gentle and supportive.
-[x] Encourage her to tell the rest of the Pleiades about her wish.

[X] Discuss:
-[X] RoE. When you catch the thief, you want to talk. If they regret their actions, cooperate, and return what they stole, you want them to have a new Clear Seed. Rehabilitative justice. Ensure they don't do it again by giving them no reason to.

And that's as far as we're going to get next update. It'll be a good point for another vote since we're likely to get push-back on the talking. We'll get to concrete problem-solving after that.

@Vebyast

I'm not sure "explain Kanna to Niko" is at all the right approach, given Firn's fairly unsubtle hints that Kanna's motivations are way less pant-on-head in his interpretation than in canon.

"Gently and supportively raise the topic of her wish with Niko. You have reason to think it might be relevant," is a lot closer to my take on it.

People do dumb shit all the time. And for all that Sayaka and Kirika call it stupid, we have exactly nothing on-screen from Oriko, who's the only one that's actually seen how these things will play out in this timeline. And I note that @Firnagzen continues to remain totally silent on how much we discussed with Oriko and what opinions and information she had. Which is remarkably annoying, if it's not simply having missed my earlier questions about it. Like, I know you're good enough that you don't need to be playing information-hiding games and refusing to answer questions that we should know the answer to.

If we're going to assume that our metaknowledge is totally useless, make that an explicit voting point. Call out names and powers and nothing else.

edit: Wacky Hypothesis: Firn has been playing retroactive memory games with us the entire time. He knew that we'd walk into range of the memory device at some point in the distant future and went backward and erased everything we'd know about her from the narrative. In which case we, what, tell Kirika to go to maximum antimagic because that's the only way we have a chance?

Or they put it in a doorway, hallway, or other chokepoint.

not standing in a single hugpile the whole time.
A tall order.

:V

I assume everyone's intelligent enough to split up in order to not be all caught into the Memory Field at once.

Specially after Niko explains more about it.

.

So... random, but thinking about sub hunting groups. We've got twelve meguca; that's a nice number to split up if we want teams with equal amount of members!

- One MoF per group. Since we've got three meguca who can MoF, we could do three groups of four. Four is a nice number of meguca per group, since it's plenty of meguca without being so many as to make coordinating annoying.

- Mami and Sabrina go into the same group. Same for Oriko and Kirika.

- Sayaka goes into a different group than Oriko and Kirika.

- Sayaka and Mirai have similar abilities that becomes less useful when paired together; they should be in different groups. Furthermore, their abilities will likely be focused on searching a wide area, so they should be paired with strong fighters.

- We might want to keep an eye on Sayaka ourselves.

- Mirai will probably want to stick with Niko.

- I just remembered Umika can copy skills, so she can pull a MoF or some shadow clones.

3 teams of 4:

Team Mami: Mami, Sabrina, Mirai, Niko.

Team Kazumi: Kazumi, Oriko, Kirika, Kaoru.

Team Umika: Umika, Sayaka, Saki, Satomi.

4 teams of 3:

Team M: Mami, Sabrina, Satomi.

Team K: Kazumi, Saki, Kaoru.

Team U: Umika, Oriko, Kirika.

Team N: Niko, Sayaka, Mirai.

Not nearly ironclad, but if we're going hunting, each group should have:

A MoF for quick regrouping.

A sensor/shadow clones.

A specially strong fighter.

An Ojou.

... Also, what if we stay with Niko doing SCIENCE! for the purpose of countering the Memory Field and other magics, while others go out and hunt?
