...why is everyone jumping on a Genius and not erasing our DB?
Because they like the DB, I assume. It's an interesting flavoring. If anything I'd prefer to try to mitigate it or convert it to a trait.
@Academia Nut, will turning Redhills into a Free City stop us from building the megaproject they've unlocked?

First off, DIPLOMACY! Second, we grab the two Free Cities that will cause the least problems due to their proximity with our center of power. Then we diplomacy-mission to the southerners to see if we can't diplo-annex the Lowland Minors in some way, mostly to keep them out of the hands of the Highlanders, or see if we can bully our way through the Trelli into the Mediterranean. Finally, there's a bunch of useful reactions, building the glassworks will avoid failing the guilds quest, Expand Forest moves us towards completion on the yeomenry quest, and a
Governer's Palace in Blackmouth helps with the Patricians quest Sadly can't afford this turn. Getting the Place to the Stars done is also good, and we have plenty of easy stability options now.
