I'm really starting to think we should just have a temple look at her. I see it and the last option as "Get her some proper psychological assistance" vs "Hook her up with a man, because that's what she really needs."

I'm not so sure. It looks more like trying to find someone who can build a relationship with her, platonic or romantic. Like how her brother was able to calm her and interact with her, and having someone she could connect with seemed to bring her some peace.

Heroic Mystic King looking over a spiritually damaged Genius Martial, what might that do?
[X] [Mystic] Search the entire kingdom for someone who might understand her and put her at ease (-1 Mystic, -1 Econ, -1 Wealth, -1 Culture)

Most understanding for Yen's mental illness, seeking a soulmate, not a breeding partner.

The Trials of an Age are ending, but the cauldron still boils with the spark of genius. Pick another hero
[X] [Hero] The next heir was forged in this war (Guaranteed Heroic heir in the next main turn)

For this one time, it is more important to ensure our Heir is competent militarily. I'm still worried about those vultures in the nomad lands.

Reorganize provinces?
[X] [Prov] Integrate Gulvalley (-4 Diplo, +3 Econ, +8 Econ Expansion, +2 Mysticism, +3 Culture, +1 Tech, new core province)

We're fine. A low martial isn't so serious in the core if the Stallions still exist to punch the nomads. Let's remove our ineffective colony early.

Pick a Reaction Project
[X] [React] Megaproject - The Games
-[X] [React] Kick Megaproject

Let's not get caught with pants at ankles again by simply having the enemy be better at killing than we are, with that one qualifier overcoming literal thousands of years of material tech advantages and massive defensive bonuses. It won't keep martial skill up perfectly, but it'll damn well help.

Pick Two Passive Policies (Infrastructure x1 + Defence x1 already active
[X] [Policy] Infrastructure (+1 Free Progress to an infrastructure project (Aqueduct, governor's palace, saltern, etc.)/turn) x1
[X] [Policy] Special: Forestry (+1 Sustainable Forest and -1 Econ Expansion/2 turns)

We'll soon be using even more trees to get the carbon to work steel, if the winds blow right. Otherwise, building tall will help us now that all of our borders generally have players at them. We need to consolidate local extensions to get more oomph since our final remaining target is basically just the HK (who are otherwise also completely enveloped by us and the Khem).

Pick a bonus for retaining King of the Hill in a Great Power War
[X] [Bonus] Upgrade a random value

This is so fucking hard to choose. A theatre would be neat, as would the random value, but two techs, with exploding dice? It's... it's tempting to just try to push ahead of everyone even further. Still, THE MOST SYNERGY WITH TECH UPGRADES WILL COME WITH AN ARTISAN GENIUS, and I didn't vote for that, so no tech for me.

Going for the medical mystic hero/genius would probably help with that, in that we'd basically ensure that "the person who can best help her" is probably that genius medic who might very well have fought alongside her... :p

Really, I know you have her best interests at heart, but people, our heroine needs psychological care, not a man! You're doing the absolutely worst romance clichees possible here. Attempts at intimacy might even be actively bad for her.
We're not looking for a husband, we're looking for someone that can understand her I believe. Her brother was noted to have been able to keep her calm, so there are clearly certain traits people can possess that can help her live a better life.

Edit: :ninja:

On the other hand putting her back into the temple folk who couldn't understand her is like committing her to an asylum. She hated the place to point of escaping and hunting an enemy general.

Also, this:

Legacy Gained
Kings Do Not Kneel (Three): Gain +1 Martial every phase during a Take the Crown or Great Power war
Gain +2 Diplo -> Overflows to +2 Culture

seems like a ridiculous Legacy.

From what I understand, War Missions generate multiple phases per turn.
This means if someone tries to take our Crown, we will be constantly buffing up the longer the War goes on, while always gaining martial in every engagement.
It basically makes attempts to beat us through attrition impossible.

Through translators the groups greeted each other, and the young prince turned king was saddened to say that his father had passed away unexpectedly shortly after he had arrived home with the news of the negotiated truce, but that this also made his acceptance of their tribute all the simpler.

oh dear. sounds like he came down with a fatal case of "for the good of the kingdom." what a shame.

"I have many sisters, but I shall work to ensure the issue is compensated for as well as possible for the next generation."

a tradition of always presenting a royal woman as a wife/concubine/advisor would be a rather nice tradition and may go a long way to prevent another war like that. Just so long as they don't insist that a femal king consumate it regardless of how many souls she has. Last time that happened it was awkward for everybody. Though we would have to repay that in kind somehow, which would be difficult because we don't have a royal family per say, having one of the kings current children marry someone in their court may work.

At the banquet in the evening, the king came up to the delegates from the People and asked if perhaps the commander at the Battle of Bloodvalley was among those present in the delegation. When informed that she was not, the king paused in contemplation before he said something that his translator had to ask if he actually wanted passed along. After confirming it so, the translator passed along the statement, "I am frightened, but aroused."

... ok now I kind of want our dragon general to end up marrying him. massively bloody war aside, I kind of like this guy. he brought peace as soon as it was feasible, and I suspect he asked for the smallest amount of tribute he could without risking a stability or legitimacy hit.

on the whole, I think that went about as well as could be expected. The war ending with tribute and both sides acknowledging the other as roughly their equal makes another war less likely. While I'm sure there is a lot of bad blood on both sides, the lack of big showy humiliation of either party means peaceful relations going forward may be possible.

Integrating the Stallions is something we've wanted to do for a long time, and now's a pretty good opportunity. This does put us over the martial limit next turn though, so I'm starting up The Games since it'll likely both fix that problem and because textual evidence suggests that it will have a very nice temporary bonus from all those veterans. Kicking it is narratively great at this point in time, and we're at Stability 2 so we can definitely take the hit. edit: Also, can you imagine if the Khemetri get a 'megaproject complete' notification before we even finish this turn?

Going 2x Infrastructure because Infrastructure is amazing with The Law's upgrade. We need all the infrastructure we can get.

To everyone who will choose to integrate the stallions remember that we still have our veterancy bonus so we would be at martial 20 so to integrate the stallions we need to include the games as well.

Hrm, I'd be more in favor of the diplo Hero myself, this is a time to forge strong ties between a fellow Great Power and ourselves, they're already doing it after all, and we probably want to avoid being the junior partner of a Personal Union down the line. Heroic Diplomat means that we manage to keep the prestige rolling.

And yeah, integrate the Stallions, but set up The Games too.

[X] [Mystic] Get assistance from a temple (-1 Mystic)

Potential for mystical development. Or a breakthrough in psychology.

[X] [Mystic] Search the entire kingdom for someone who might understand her and put her at ease (-1 Mystic, -1 Econ, -1 Wealth, -1 Culture)

The sentimental option.

[X] [Hero] The next heir was forged in this war (Guaranteed Heroic heir in the next main turn)

We will be going to war next turn, this guarantees a painless victory.

[X] [Prov] Integrate Gulvalley (-4 Diplo, +3 Econ, +8 Econ Expansion, +2 Mysticism, +3 Culture, +1 Tech, new core province)

It expanded as far as possible, time to integrate it, that is the purpose of colonies afterall.

[] [Prov] Integrate Stallions (-6 Diplo, +5 Econ, +5 Econ Expansion, +8 Mysticism, +4 Culture, +2 Tech, +10 Martial, new core province)

We need them protecting the north. This is a risky move.

[X] [React] Build more aqueducts (-2 & -3 Econ to complete aqueducts in Redshore and Redhills)

The infrastructure option. Would also speed up war recovery and send a message to the public.

[X] [React] Megaproject - The Games

Might as well start it early.

[X] [Policy] Infrastructure (+1 Free Progress to an infrastructure project (Aqueduct, governor's palace, saltern, etc.)/turn) x1

Infrastructure is of vital importance, we need every action saving measure possible.

[X] [Policy] Defence (+1 significant walls/turn) x1

We need to reinforce our core, this war showed that.

[X] [Bonus] Gain a random value slot
[X] [Bonus] Upgrade a random value

These two are the absolute most valuable options. Everything else can be gained with an action except these. And it damn near impossible to gain new value slots, and bloody difficult to upgrade one. The benefits that values bring are incalculable.
