The they is us, because sometimes neither of us have answers to a problem but the Lowlander's blind faith will trump our more reasoned philosophy, which is probably a negative of Love of Wisdom.
@Andres110
that's what I had assumed but I am waiting for WoG clarification.

Doesn't give me much confidence in our victory, but this is the choice that seems most correct.

People should also think about the current events about the faith debate.
  1. Our mysticism is at maximum.
    Cultural
    Art 6
    Mysticism 15 [+1]
    Prestige 40
  2. We just trashed the faith capital of a super powerful foreign patheon.(Xoh) It is clear our gods are superior.
  3. We can feed our people when the weather is being a complete wreck, hell we can even support all the incoming refugees
The faith front is very much in OUR favor right at this moment.

We cannot let this faith gain any kind of foothold in our civilisation. Anything but stamping it out or getting the best result from debates will end up with that happening. Our high Mysticism makes it more likely that we'll get that best result, but even so, there's still a grand total of 5 ways the debate will go and there's still plenty of room for things to go wrong.

Edit: Had the diff checkers wrong last night, here's the right ones:

We lost dominance in pilgrimages, likely due to either war or this issue with the lowland gods, but we gained dominance in glass, which means the province Western Wall transferred was probably the one with their glassworks :)

New Tech! Not quite as immediately useful as new road tech, but i think a pretty major improvement; should make survey actions rather more powerful, i'd think?

the general themes of self-sacrifice, community, and working for greater things resonated strongly with the People.
Oh, hello there Greater Good...

Gives us econ and econ expansion (which we need) and reduces the strain on our admin. We could seriously use that now.
I think that transfers econ awayfrom us, to our new free city subordinate...

I'll be honest, the main appeal of debates to me is not the Stability nor how it fits the spirit of Love of Wisdom, but 110% because I want to adopt the newly orphaned Tuultox.

Come on, our pantheon needs a Goddess of Poison, doesn't it? Besides, we already have avian and mammalian gods, we need a reptilian one as well to keep up our species quota.

Well you can't actually know that, with our super high mysticism and actions razing a city, a bare success could still leave us with minimum influence

There are parts of their religion that our people like, such as community spirit and self-sacrifice.

This debate is likely just for how much one of the pantheons are incorporated into the other pantheon, with either ours or theirs becoming more dominant.

Eh. The lowlanders do have SOME decent themes like self-sacrifice. I'm not worried if we pick up a trait or two. It's not like we can get Moloch Calls or something.

@Academia Nut, are there settlements to the west of our lowland vassals? I'm confused as to why they're not expanding in the direction of the Highland Kingdom instead of picking fights with the Swamp People. There's an entire river there, after all...

Mostly because the Swamp Folk want to conquer them, and resistance turned out to be stronger than the lowland vassals initially expected.

would picking to debate put Love of Wisdom at risk?

There is at least some risk to the value with all the options, with variation on how much risk. It's not much, but it is present.

How do our priests debate with each other when they are not certain of the turth? Can we set up carefully moderated debates? Where our priests record transcripts of the debates in order to learn all of the arguments and be prepared for them.

Mostly they just have internal debates and don't let their divisions be known to outsiders, but sometimes they will go to the king with a major issue if they think its a serious issue that has to be resolved, whereupon they will present their arguments and let the king decide what is properly orthodoxy... although sometimes the debates will go across generations with different kings finding reasons to overturn prior precedent by citing new arguments/information.

Just realized that we only have 2 econ, and will be spending 1 per true city.
Economy 2 (+0+1) [-2]

[Low] Send over assistance (Transfer 1 Econ + 1 Martial)
[City] Yes (Transfers 2 Econ + 2 Econ expansion, nulls cost of maintenance for Sacred Forest)
[React] Main Improve Annual Festival
* M: -1 Econ, -2 Wealth, +1 Stability, +2 Art, chance for additional effects
[Refugee] Just those who come of their own initiative (Potential stab loss, +2 Econ)
This leaves us with zero econ, and spending 1 on the true city, for a negative econ hit.

Potentially more, depending on order of operations.

I'm pretty sure we'll have to spend minimum stability on refugees atm and spend our action boosting econ one way or another.

Integrating the Stallions for their econ and land is pretty important, too.

My initial inclination is to vote with @Umi-san. I deeply dislike this war, but I'm concerned that any truce is going to be temporary now. And I want to establish local hegemony with a more benevolent state, and I want to create a large region that has internal peace.

Along with that, I also want to act as a benevolent state should. That means allowing religious debates. And for the minors, trying to sweeten the pot for them.

That said, I'm worried this vote is overextending. Will keep weighing it.

[X] [RA] Increase debates to determine the truth (-2 to +2 Religious Authority based on success of debates, potential shift in Spiritual Values)
[X] [Low] Force them to follow the spirit of the law (Potential stability loss, potential war with vassal)
[X] [Low] Crack down on their priests (-1 Stability, potential war with vassal, potential +1 Religious authority)
[X] [Low] Introduce black soil to improve their conditions (Teaches black soil to vassal)
[X] [Low] Introduce mill technology to improve their conditions (Teaches water mill to vassal)
[X] [Low] Permit their use of iron tools (Allows iron tools to be traded to vassal)
[X] [High] Subjugate (+5 Prestige, +5 Wealth, gain new vassal, unlikely to complete this turn)
[X] [RB] Deploy against Highlanders from Hatvalley
[X] [React] Main Improve Annual Festival
[X] [City] No
[X] [Refugee] Bring in a bit more than usual (-1 Stab, potential further loss, +4-5 Econ)

New Status: Tax reform needed - Lose 1-3 Wealth per turn until complete The Law (Iron Age) megaproject. Prereqs to unlock: The Census?, Grand Palace?

*Hisses*

Taxes! Our greatest weakness!

Though I note that there's a Tier Two Law Megaproject, which is quite interesting. How many Tiers are there? Is there like a Space Age Law Megaproject that unlocks once we get to modern times?

Oh, and it turns out that the Lowlanders are shitheads with shitty religious practices. God damn it all.

Too bad our current King is not the person I would want to be the judge for this debate.

@Academia Nut

Is the north still at a major risk of breaking away?

Does Legitimacy +Stability =4 still hold true to prevent that or has it stabilized somewhat?

If yes, we have to be exceedingly careful with the stability hits we take this turn.
