We need to steal cannons. Big cannons, which Homu can use to fire meguca at Walpy.
Well, the turrets of an Iowa-class battleship are only held in via gravity, and Sabrina doesn't need to worry about weight because fuck physics...
We might be on to something here.
:p
(Yes, I know that a bunch of Cannone Picchios from timestop would be more effective, shut up.)

Infinite cannons shooting infinite meguca would be the ultimate System Breaker tech.

Kuroki's still a rookie MG, right? If that's the case, wouldn't she still be leaving craters and other colllateral damage from her roofhopping at thispoint, like Sabrina did back at the beginning? Have we tried looking for those?
Not all new meguca leave craters.

Yuma didn't.

But we could look, I guess.

But Yuma is smol and cute and can't weigh more than 80 lbs in a full set of drenched heavy winter gear.

Kuroki probably didn't leave any though, as she appears to have been trying to go unnoticed.

I would STRONGLY disadvise giving Sayaka a job that could potentially result in a witchbomb with pretty high likelihood.
Fair enough, in that case I have an expansion of the "trap" idea:

The question at the heart of it is pretty simple: can we enchant a small ring to feel like a witch's barrier? IIRC things in line with one's powerset are easier to enchant so making something feel super witchy, so that it can last outside our 100m radius, should be relatively easy as enchantments go. After all, making things feel witchy is one of the easiest things we can do. It's just generally a side effect rather than the explicit goal.

Because if we can, we can we can slip it over the top of a grief seed and drop it in a probable location. Viola, instant magical girl bait.

An actual trap is only needed if we believe that she would be so suspicious as to just not take it before finding a trap. Otherwise we can just plain writing a note that says "hey Kuroki, this is for you, btw we want to talk ASAP," possibly alongside a pen to leave a response. Even if we do need a "trap", it could just be as simple as making not a ring, but a wire puzzle that the grief seed is difficult to remove from. It doesn't need to do anything other that broadcast a witch's barrier feeling, but Kuroki won't know that, and by defeating the puzzle she'll think she's defeated our clever tracking scheme.

Then in the morning we check back. If we see that the seed is gone, or even just used, there's a good chance she found it.

Alternatively, while I don't think we do, if we really wanted to, we can make it bait for an actual trap. And of course, if we want to cast a wider net, the setup is repeatable as many times as we have grief seeds we're willing to throw at the problem.

The effort we can put into the thing is really quite scalable. The only truly special part is the enchantment practice and it might just be possible to do that concurrent with other activities.

We could plan a weekend trip to Italy. Just Mami and us.
Yeah, something like six months from now, sure.

Otherwise? We have a ton of shit to take care of and manage. Oriko and Kirika. Tons of new MGs immigrating into Mitakihara. Asunaro. This missing MG. Walpurgisnacht. Making sure Madoka doesn't contract. Feathers (and its apparent desire to target Oriko). Kyouko and Yuma (without a Clear Seed, they're kinda dependent on us making regular visits for cleansing, seeing as they're basically not finding any Witches at all). Oh yeah, and Mami has school.

Plus, we still need to figure out/practice extremely high-speed, precise-destination, suborbital flight.

And we'd need to figure out how to exchange currency in a timely fashion ahead of time.

...come to think of it, we'd need to make contact with the MG team in the area beforehand, too. So they aren't freaked out by the Witchy-spaceplane flying into their territory, disgorging a pair of unknown MGs.

Let's not forget: Homura and Madoka are paramount. Things seem fine for us now, but to Homura, her hope and confidence are always fragile, and they're going to remain so until after Walpurgisnacht is dead and all of her friends are okay (and Madoka hasn't contracted). Even then, she'll be afraid--totally uncertain future, totally uncertain how to actually live, trying to cope with finally being free of her endlessly-looping nightmare of hell, etc. Two of her closest and most reliable allies packing up and going halfway around the world for a weekend any time in the foreseeable future would leave her a wreck and constantly afraid.

IMO, if we're gonna have a date in Italy, better make it an actual holiday vacation, and not an off-the-cuff two-hour spontaneous thing.

Because even if we achieve trans-continental supersonic flight/teleportation, Jet Lag is still a thing. It's hard to enjoy a 5-star italian dinner when your brain is convinced it's 4 AM and you're relying on magic to keep yourself awake.

And you don't go to Italy just for one dinner. Mami'd want to properly tour the country too.

Which is weird? Does anyone else think that this is weird?

Maybe Kyuu... Kyue... QB is hoping that by starving them of witches, he can goad them into doing something dumb, getting Witched & then using that to witchbomb everyone?

Or, more likely, I'm just missing something.

If it is Kyubey's doing, it's probably not an attempt at the Witchbomb. Not to mention the fact that, if things were really getting bad enough for Kyouko to the point where she couldn't find any Witches to hunt and her soul gem was getting 50% or higher on corruption, she'd just reach out to Sabrina for a free cleansing, since Sabrina established right from their first meeting that she was offering that service, no strings attached, no price tag (and she lives right next door, so to speak).

If it were an attempt an driving Kyouko to poach on Mitakihara territory, it also wouldn't make sense. Kyouko takes territory seriously, and if she's going to go to the trouble of poaching on Mami's territory, why not just ask Sabrina for a cleanse (as she'd freely offered already) instead?

For all we know, Kyubey is trying to help us by forcing Kyouko and Yuma to rely on us more (and interact with us more).

It could be something entirely unrelated to Kyubey. Like Witches being drawn to Mitakihara as Walpurgisnacht's appearance gets nearer. Or we're catching so many Witches in Mitakihara so efficiently and effectively that ones that would normally drift into Kazamino are killed before they can do so?

I more meant that they wouldn't see any witches, wouldn't want to call Sabrina, a Witch would appear, they go to fight it, and it is ridiculously powerful & kills them?

IDK.

Well, two things here - coherence isn't the same as collimation. You can principally have one without the other - coherent but non-collimated light is trivially obtained from a planar source impinging on a single slit, for example.
Yes. It's easy for Sabrina to do either, since I assume she's basically emitting single photons on demand with arbitrary parameters. She's definitely pointing them all in the same direction, so collimated is a given, but I don't know whether synchronizing the wavelengths would have any major benefits, so I don't know if she'd be going for coherence.

Also, now that I think about it, I hadn't internalized that coherent didn't necessarily mean collimated. A laser going through a slit and diffracting would still be coherent but not collimated, yes?
Second, it's true that you'd reduce the net power output with a collimated beam for "illumination", but given that you need a three dimensional sweep, to gain equal resolution you'd have to sweep the entire volume. The surface integral of power absorbed, assuming a stationary target, would result in the same if not more energy delivered.
Either way immaterial, because now that I think about it you're right here. Sabrina need some amount of information from each volume, and that's going to be roughly proportional to the number of photons she observes and can draw information from (assuming her observed photons aren't too tightly correlated for reasons other than "because they scattered off the same target"). So yes, broad pulses are just as good if not better. Especially because:
Also, not quite related, but backscatter is decidedly not collimated. Or even coherent.
Backscatter still falls afoul of inverse-square, which means distance is still important.

Perhaps a bit late to this, but I thought Discord wasn't supposed to be used any more for vote discussion?

At that point, myself, redshirt, onmur, and vebyast literally filled about two entire fucking quest pages with no other contributors in like an hour -- it starts on 4692. It was getting ridiculous and most of the details were already hashed out. There was some minimal chatter on discord at that point, which basically amounted to us having a proper conversation on the topic of agreeing with each other. Then somebody on discord suggested Homura and we moved the whole thing back into the thread. Vebyast went to bed, and I opened a pm with redshirt in discord in which we went over everything we'd said, said nothing new, and vehemently agreed with each other.

Looking back at the logs, the only thing of substance that happened there was that Redshirt and I had non-meaningfully different opinions on Kuroki -- I said that I expected she wasn't hunting witches, he figured she was. It doesn't particularly affect us either way.

Anyway, I hold to my opinion that the Redshirt vote is unnecessarily long. There's simply no way we're going to check Kuroki location, Kokotalk, visit the Mikunis, and go home in one post. And by Madokami, we are opening the Kokotalk with the "reconcile" topic, not with how Kyouko is doing. Doing it the other way around is going to get you a breakdown, I promise.

[x] Visit Kuroki's last known location in person.
-[x] Look for clues. SCIENCE as appropriate. Break to voting if you find something.

[X] Talk to Mami about Kyouko: you think you can reconcile them. Give details as necessary. If Mami asks, Kyouko is doing well. Give details about Kyouko's situation as appropriate.
-[X] If Mami asks what she should do, break to voting because that is complicated.
-[X] Don't let Mami think Kyouko would be replacing you. Mami makes your days brighter.
-[X] Ask about Kyouko training Sayaka. Give appropriate details.

[x] Go with Mami to buy the things Kirika wanted and visit the Mikunis.
-[x] Proceed to Mikuni house.

Yes. It's the same difference as between "I can do this" and "I can help you do this". Mami needs the second.
[Q] Actually, you know what, I'll leave this all up to you. You can do it, Mami!
-[Q] CheerleaderBrina intensifies.

Actually, what if, while Mami and Kyouko confronted each other, Sabrina was in the sidelines, cheering and booing appropriately? :V

"you can reconcile them" and "they can reconcile" are two different things.
Yes. It's the same difference as between "I can do this" and "I can help you do this". Mami needs the second.

Right. That's... *pinches nose*

Well, I now remember how I'd wanted to do this. Oy vey.

How I want to do this, ideally:

[] Privacy
-[] Hey Mami? It's possible for you and Kyouko to reconcile.
-[] Give details. Separation = Kyouko pushing Mami away out of self-loathing. Yuma making Kyouko better.
--[] If Mami starts blaming herself for not seeing that: call bullshit. Kyouko needed time, there was absolutely nothing Mami could have done to change that. Furthermore you highly doubt Kyouko would've survived the loss of her family without Mami.
-[] Don't let Mami think Kyouko would be replacing you. Mami makes your days brighter.
-[] Ask about Kyouko training Sayaka. Give appropriate details.

That's what my standing position on Kokotalk has been in the past. For now I'll edit the existing vote, but... That's how I would want to do this. Putting up privacy while at Kuroki location strikes me as a dumb idea, though.
