And if we ignore him and any sort of disaster happens, we strengthen superstition, cause civil unrest, and still have a disaster on our hands.
Yeah but the kicker is that we have the resources to deal with the unrest and disaster.

Basically either of Stockpile or Ignore has a very high chance to generate the Superstition so comparing them on that is baseless.

Exactly and we never will unless we keep disproving wrong hypothesis aka beliefs. Science or at least the scientific method was created through trial and error if we keep gaining debilitating beliefs and we keep disproving them then eventually we will get to said method.
And I am saying we do not need to go as far as disproving beliefs, but that disproving observations is enough.

Say we make Observation A that Event A will happen.

If Event A does not happen then obviously something about Observation A was wrong.

Why?

It is this why that provides the impetus for evolution.

There are good points and possibilities for positive evolution of Observance in either Stockpile or Ignore, it's just that they also have chance of generating a Belief that is several orders of magnitude more difficult to disprove than Weapons of the Gods. See the prophets of the ancient world in our world. I'd rather not have the headache. Why I'm voting for the as I see it safe option of poking the Star Mirror.

You got any fancy Metroid or Castlevania music to share for the events? Some kind of Prophesying Doom? <- shameless begging for more cool music.

We can explicitly ignore him and still prepare. So there'd be no difference aside from opening up MORE of the same problem in the future by publically crediting what could be nothing but a medical curiosity.

Then instead of the chiefs being lauded for listening to a lunatic, the chiefs are lauded for having sufficient reserves/discretion.

I think overcoming the Weapons of the God is a major success in our civilization history to the point of evolving Observance, but probably not scientific method directly?

Could lead to the Carrion Eaters studying how the brain works. Dunno how it will be any benefit to our civilization short-term though.

Ominous drums.

Da da thuum.

Awesome. You get Kudos to.

There is a difference aside from possibly getting more of a problem. Namely that we get an extra point of stability for free if we manage to fit hit relatively easy condition.

Unless you are saying that one point of stability is literally worth nothing, in which case I would like to save that quote for future refugee cases.

No, he is saying it is not worth encouraging and legitimizing mad prophets.

Hey veekie I was thinking next turn we can do this:

Main Expand Econ. +2 Econ.
Secondary Establish Holy Sites. +1 Mysticism for -1 Econ
Secondary Study Stars. +1 Mysticism for free.

Provinces will be generating 3 to 4 Econ.

A total of +2 Mysticism and +1 Econ gain from us. With 3 to 4 more Econ and possibly +1 Mysticism gain from Provinces. We'd end at 5 or 6 Mysticism and 9 to 10 Econ for the mid turn.

Narrative benefits of preparing: Study Stars might have a massive hidden benefit. Though I kinda doubt it will come. Maybe we can spot it early, that will not trigger the belief I don't think. Holy sites would create a place dedicated to something, maybe the stars. And the stocking up on Econ is just good sense.

Morning everyone.

So, I just had this thought. You know how the comet has a negative connotation in our society (the Doom Comet)? How do we remember the Spirit Talkers and their connection to the stars to the point where they even "brought" the comet, which eventually heralded their own fall. Is it a sign of their own hubris in thinking they could talk and control the spirits?

@Academia Nut?

[X] Examine Star Mirror (possibility of disrupting holy site, ???)
[X] Military scouting mission

- this is maybe a way to find out if there really is magic in this setting.

Survey instead of Holy Site, its one of the possible trouble spots, and if there's nothing we could still use finding lots of iron ore sites, or a new Saltern site.

New Saltern would be disgustingly sweet at that. If we have a +2 passive Diplomacy income we'd be able to fund Proclaim Glory cheaply in future by sheer overflow.
He said "So there'd be no difference aside from...", which is factually wrong unless you count 1 point of Stability as nothing. We do not get the Stability bonus if we do not pick the option.
Sure. Gain one stability now, in exchange for making such "Take X or take Stability hits" options more often as a supersition?

That's just screwing our future in exchange for gains which...we do not urgently need and which we already have a plan to deal with. Almost always 'free' Stability comes at the cost of establishing the 'natural' and harmful precedent.

I do believe we barely remember the Spirit Talkers now. And if we barely remember them with our obsessive record keeping, an interesting side effect is that it is a slim possibility that anyone else remembers them.

I do like your thoughts though.

Question! Is that sea on the map the Black Sea? And is Valleyhome located in Hatila Valley national park?
We have not confirmed that, that is the Black Sea. But we have very strong evidence that it is. I am not sure where Hatlia Valley is but if you look at this map you can see where Upper and Lower Valleyhome is. Valleyhome province is split.

The Spirit Talkers are starting to enter myth/being conflated with the Thunder Speakers. The People only have a very vague recollection of who they were and what they were about, and attributes about them have mostly been absorbed into internal mythology.

It's the Not!Black Sea and you are in Not!Georgia, which is also far closer to Not!Mesopotamia than in real life.

Hup! Confirmation and indication that Geography is all funky.

Cool.

*sigh* How unfortunate.

We are starting to write myths down, right? What about historical accounts and historiography?

That's what the Library is for.
