But if something DOES happen the king will look like a fool and we will take additional stab and legit damage when we at present cannot afford and get the mallus people are trying to avoid it is a neutral-lose scenario here one I cannot understand why many people are voting for it.

But it would have to be something major, a crit fail. By its very nature that is unlikely, a risk I for one am willing to take over the certainty of another long term crippling belief that is intrinsically much harder to falsify than Weapon of the Gods.

No I want explicit lunatics who spread false prophecy being killed however I doubt we will be fortunate enough to develop that trait.
The thing about 'false prophecies' is that you only know whether they're false or not when it's too late.

If a guy with a time-travelled seismograph came in and said there'd be an earhquake soon, he'd be seen as just as mucha false prophet as this guy.

Even if that were the case I'd be willing to take the earthquake damage over believing every crackpot and madman he will inspire form then on.

What is your reasoning?

We are at 0 stability.

Our people currently have a debilitating belief against metals, thus alone the establishing of the mine will cost stability.

And then, while we are at negative stability, something else happens, like a new wave of refugees, and we will have to risk another negative stability hit.

Add to it anything happening to the miners or the nomads returning, and we can have extremely tough situation on our hands.

In my opinion we need to be at least at 2 stability before going for the mine.

Well considering the current vote this should be !!FUN!! no matter how it shakes out.

I have concluded that even if the comet is not coming the thread will not go for an iron mine next turn, just in case it is coming in the following mid turn. We will have to wait until the next project turn after this coming one before we can try for it. I am not going to fight for the mine hard enough to convince them, one because they have something of a point, and two because arguing that hard is too stressful.

Also if it does come next mid turn we will be recovering for the next two main turns, and then we can get the mine.

So in worst case we will be opening the mine in three main turns from now, (the coming one plus the next two).
Unless the main turn poses a significant immediate threat, I'm going hard on Iron. There are literally no other actions we can do with close to the same potency, unless they directly keep us from dying.

Actually, the important point is:

Are we gonna suppress the insane ramblings?

We can suppress and ignore
We can suppress and silently make preparations
We can suppress and silently study

Or we don't suppress (large gamble)
And ignore (if nothing happens, we gain a bit. If something happens, we're getting fucked)
And make preparations (if nothing happens, we lose some face. If something happens, we gain face)
And Study
if nothing happens,
we find something: Observance disprove event
we find nothing: Observance superstition strenghtened
If something happens
we find something: Observance superstition strenghtened
we find nothing: They think we missed something?

All in all, suppress the insane guy and prepare for the worst.

But we could do a Main Iron Mine + a Secondary Grand Sacrifice. Or a Main Iron Mine + Grand Sacrifice x2?

Unless you are worried about admin rolls?

What if, you instead, challenge him to bet 1 million on it. And get everyone to bet along with him.

When he is proven wrong, everyone will NEVER believe it EVER again.

The more painful the lesson, the longer it'll stay in the memory.
If the lesson has no effect (ie. ignored), it will have no effect.

We do not at this time have the option to suppress, just ignore or act (in various ways) and publicize.

I am worried about admin rolls.

This said, yes, a main Grand sacrifice taken together with iron mine would be enough for me to vote for it, of course if we were at least at stability 0 before that.

Acting does not mandate publicizing.

Oh, we're stockpiling.
Why? Err, we want to study stuff and survey. Nothing to do with the ramblings at all.

Only those in the know, would know. It's not as if our Econ status is publicized, so most won't even know it's happening.

So basically your concern is that you do not want to end up at 0 stability or lower after we take the mine?

That can be arranged.

Well, we'll see where we're at. I'm not opposed to that plan if we don't need those secondaries for something critical.

It would also leave us on expansion with few expand options, so ForestsYay?

Sorry, the Xohyssiri have that look copyrighted.

Some might argue it unethical that copyrights lasts millenia after the original holder died, but we were the ones writing the law and we didn't put in any expiration date.
