We really need the forest buffer.

They are nomads. There really is no long term solution until gunpowder.
Well true in one regard, have they had to deal with a hivemind of multidimensional entities whose memories stretch for thousands of years to them?

You can bet the thread will remember this. We now have a burning desire to fix the problem. And when SV wants to fix something we tend to get a rather crazy determined.

Step stepping a forest across the steppe seems like a good prelude to things that will push them away and focus somewhere else.

Okay, fair enough. Do you think they'll be able to train them up before nomads return, with their farms burned and all?
There's nothing to indicate that it's any slower than having to transfer a ton of people over to farm the land and integrate into the existing military structure. It's all admin rolls in the end.

It's definitely faster than trying to grow a forest, though we do want that forest for other reasons so it's not a big deal unless the nomads go crazy attacking us again.

Good point on setting to stupid.
However, Balanced would let them build both economy and army as needed here.

Or you know...Survey for and build settlements on mines?
We could badly use some surveys to reveal Red rock sites already near settlements.

Can glazed pottery contain acids? because we don't quite have glass yet.
Its mostly carbonates. The acid will eat them and neutralize

Uh guys, consider Balanced should meet our situation better.

Our northern provinces need to finish defensive infrastucture and plant forests.
Our southern provinces need to look for more iron mine sites and rebuild our Martial as actions allow.

Expansion doesn't automate half the ore discovery process. Balanced does both sides. Survey and deploy settlement, then we just need to Main mine right after

The problem with balanced is that it's reasonably likely that the provinces don't make any new settlements.

We basically will have no clue what the provinces will do with Balanced aside from taking a single Expand Econ for The Law to double.

It's also going to split the vote, as stupid as that argument is it is pretty important this late in the voting process.

This gains us some much needed martial, expands the carrion eaters for the first time and makes the province actions more flexible.

Next turn we'll send the Stallions some help along with more boats to help it.

Can we please make forests already? There's always objections that the forests won't grow fast enough to matter and it keeps getting pushed back again and again. At this rate we'll never get to expand forest because its always not fast enough to satisfy people. There will never *be* a perfect moment to expand forests damn it, and waiting for a perfect moment means we'll never get to expanding forests. Which means that the Stallion March will continue to be vulnerable to nomad attacks without thick forests to protect it.

Sure, it'll likely take something like a hundred years for a good enough forest, but we'll never get a hundred years of forest growth if we never actually start it.

You all do realize that Balanced had a strong chance of not building the Bleeding Cliffs settlement, right?

I could get behind, like, {M} Chariots {S} Policy Balanced {S} Bleeding Cliffs
But this plan is just asking for provinces to do something we don't need right now and delaying iron more.

Expansion will go there with a very high likelihood. Balanced might not.
but we'll never get a hundred years of forest growth if we never actually start it.
They built forest when they were founded, it's just not dense enough right now.

To all you folks voting Balanced and possibly hoping we can Grab Iron Mine and New Settlement next turn it looks as if we must be settled in Bleeding Cliffs first before the Build Iron Mine option will open up.

Expansion will greater than 75% grab Bleeding Cliffs since we only have 3 Expansion options (Southshore, Redhills, Bleeding Cliffs) and 4 actions. By taking Expansion now we can almost assuredly be able to grab the Mine next turn and get Iron going.

Keep in mind our provinces aren't idiotic, while they have a lot of latitude- especially in Balance, AN keeps in mind what our intent and goal is and sees how that matches up with what the provinces want/can do, and expanding to Bleeding Cliff both gets us the Econ and the all important Iron.

Balanced might be a good option if our provincial chiefs were all heroes or were influenced by the thread.

Realistically, however, balanced is a shot in the dark, with very low chances of actually doing what we want it to do.

Expansion gives us important settlements, econ and mysticism. It progresses the iron chain of events, gives us more 'expand econ' slots and has a chance of buffing our forest expansion too.

Balanced gives us ??? Who knows, could be anything.

Most of our chiefs are at best ambivalent about Iron, what with it being bad luck and "the weapon of the Gods".

Our provinces have no idea how important Iron is. Heck, a lot of our people don't want us studying Iron. Betting that they'll take it of their own initiative when there's a lot of other things they could do is not a good bet. My guess is that they would go Chariots+Blackbirds+Study Stars+expand econ (doubled).

Our provinces have never done what we expected on Balanced (before The Law).
