[X] Protect him and have him teach his knowledge (-4 Stability, -2 Legitimacy, -10 Mysticism, -10 Art, -2 Prestige, chance of infuriating the Metal Workers, gain Iron Smelting study chain)

We don't need to raise our legit to 3 immediately, 1 proclaim glory as a main will do. We need to assist the Marches, otherwise they'll rebel because of the legitimacy drop as well.

So, 1 proclaim glory to hold us over as well as a main/secondary war mission. After that we can solve our legit and stability.

While this will hurt like all fuck, it's a skip from ridiculously hard-to-amass bronze as the premier material straight to iron.

ON THE OTHER HAND, by doing this, we do not automatically acquire Iron Smelting, just the study chain attached to it. We will have to first super-charge our mysticism back into the double digits (to ensure we can afford to overturn the negative belief so the chain can actually be done), and also rebuild our stability in the immediate wake of this choice.

All in all, assuming we choose this, we will need to make at least five to seven turns of continuous, hard effort to line up the stats and time to make this plausible.

[X] Execute this maniac (+1 Prestige)

As such, because it would take so enormously long to skip to the iron age, and leave us vulnerable in so many different ways just to start with, I can't in good conscious go with this risk to earn it's reward.

Which isn't as bad as the naysayers...well say.

Stability is something we can use Restore Order and Proclaim Glory to boost those up.

Badlands has a new name

Well think about it, with this we drop to -1 stability and 1 legit,
We main proclaim glory and bump us up to two legit and maybe 0 stability
So due to our high stability were not near death's door internally.

Okay, so martial is nearly at max. Weren't there concerns that martial overflowed in a very damaging manner?

Also, if we take this choice, it will likely mean the fall of Mags' family from getting a chance at power for a long, long while because Yehlmyn is not going to be popular for this decision. And we're likely looking at a significant opportunity cost.

Can someone explain to me the possible changes and consequences of the Iron age suddenly happening in our society right now? Like how much will this advance us?

If we are not embroiled in angry neighbor, subjects, and nomads; then the mining and smelting of iron will literary propel our production and military by millenniums. IF we survive the ensuing chaos.

You know even if this destroys us I don't care. This is bigger than the people it's literally something that can piledrive the world millennia ahead. Not kick the world but Pile drive.

This puts us at Stability -1, Legitimacy 1, Mysticism 4, and Art 4.

It also ends our Golden Age, and cuts off the option for taking another Periphery State for a while.

It also gives us a path to skip right to iron.

When we know there's at least two sources of iron in our territory already.

Art 4 is enough for 1 Main Proclaim Glory or 2 Secondaries, -1 Stability allows for Restore Order (though we might want Festival instead; we'll need the Art.)

But I think we can actually afford this, given that we're not currently at war, and the Metal Workers don't exactly have great access to us.

That said, I can't say this doesn't annoy me; ah well, we'll just have to find ways to open up paths for excellence for all of our citizens. Our new honor trait might even help with that.
Government Transition
Early Ancient Provincial Kingdom (Elective) -> Oligarchic Ancient Kingdom
A king holds chief executive power, but is primarily drawn from and voted in by a limited set of families backed by economic might and military elites.
Pros: Good mix of central authority and provincial autonomy
Cons: Beware competing ambitions...

Ironically, Econ is untouched by this. All our Base stats are, with the possible exception of Diplomacy if the Metal Workers get pissed off. It's the hidden effects I'm worried about. The societal instability at a time of great external threat. That legitimacy hit is really concerning, since having it at Max is what helps keep the March in line.

We have enough enemies, I'd rather not add the master of metallurgy to that list. They have to be closing in on Bronze by now, and they'll probably get there before we get iron in any great amount. Lots of Bronze beats a little Iron on the field.
The problem is that we won't have enough econ to boost our stability via Grand Sacrifice. Having a lot of econ helps by being a big buffer if we need to break out Grand Sacrifice for emergency boost.

The riddle of steel. Almost there.

Please note that this is a good deal but will crash us down from the Golden Age.

We'll be a long time recovering as we mix stability gain with econ burn, but happily the war is mostly over so we can start expanding up the river and/or into the lowlands depending on what y'all want. The expansion will largely provide enough econ to make up for the cost of defending the fortifications for the expansion, but won't provide enough econ to also fund stability gain actions and further study metal actions. But hey, iron weapons will pwn the nomads.

This also means we really have to hurry up with the Dam project, cause I am very sure this is going to remove it from the megaprojects list.

But we have so many other things to do so...

;_;
